Notes About The Poem

Jonquils

And there they are
as if it were their duty to bloom
... like slow notes on a piano
from the depths of earth
suddenly rising
to fill the world with grace.

Much like writing a poem
a duty to ourselves
... inspired moments
bare, inarticulate strands
nuanced over time
suddenly rising
bursting onto the page.

I like how you compare the growth of jonquils to the writing process. You have so many eye-catching titles I can’t help but want to read the poems that go with them!

Wow. Better than the last one I read. Your words paint a picture as to make the picture you posted with it seem redundant. I love the layered metaphors (especially the piano notes ... though I’m biased there .. lol) and the way the poem so confidently begins: “And there they are ...” nature doesn’t need to make an entrance. It just is! Very beautiful indeed, Suz.
