Born across the sea
Freedom through Ellis Island
Worked her life long
Gave her children her own dream
Worn, lined, beautiful face

At Ellis Island there were tons of lines
If you stood too long you were given fines
Your name easy if
It was Rose or Big Biff
Mine was misspelled about a hundred times

'Twas a horrible thing called the blight,
diseased potatoes a depressing sight,
starvation begone,
crossed over the pond,
arrived Ellis Island future looks bright.

I get really inspired
When it’s truly seen
What has transpired

Ethereal enigma echoed empathic eel ‘s emotional elevation
Elongated elusive elephant-like Edison expected ectoplasm
Extrasensory efforts of exacting Ellis effortlessly eludes evildoers
Exasperating empathetic eel and elusive ethereal enigma

I can't help but wonder what condition this planet would be in had the billions of dollars spent on the search for a second Earth , were instead, spent on saving this wounded Earth we struggle to survive in.

Born two centuries yesteryear
A young pair who passed through Ellis
Built a frame home with rose trellis
Intertwined blooms like them bound dear.
Last roses on their headstones rest,
Grandparents by whom I was blest.

born on foreign soil

American dream
she never had much
worked from sun-up to sun-down
wanting more for me
dying much too young
wishing I could say once more

He lives off scraps somewhere north of High Park,
and bleeds art into the air in sections,
Mike Ellis, I don't know you...
but your colour is confession,
paint,
wrapped in the pale yellow ribbon of childhood,
tells of an ancient
paper sun, illuminating figures
on blue silk canvas.

Free verse
by R. Ellis
Blue falls on the river
tonight falling and recoiling
in a splashing wave of stars
like frozen rain.
I miss the most of you that
I know which is a little piece
of something small but powerful
No burning flames no one the
sames just the now of I love you.

How Much Is It Worth
not counting money
If I think I can talk
like a friend to you
and cry, laugh, or smile
for us and you
but then it's only me
trying hard in this way
to say
something
to listen to you
as if I knew
you could really love me.

Big Bennie Davis and Joe Nally are walking down to the pub
Joe's about five four and wiry.
A car pulls to the curb . The driver calls out
Hey Shorty. How do we get to Ellis street?
Nally" How did you know my name was Shorty?
Driver "I guessed"
Nally " Well guess where Ellis street is"
They went into the pub.

The Head of the Eagle
by Joan Donnelly Ellis
It is not the wing of the Eagle that enables it to soar to great height
Nor is it the feet of the Eagle although they've impressive might
It is not the eye of the Eagle that carries it to where sanction abounds
But it is the head of the Eagle that lifts it to higher ground

Weightless then, I tiptoe on sand
One to wonder on her strips of gold.
Naming each leaf that curls up to rest
Dressed in fabric of glossy strands;
Ever gracious, earth’s harvest brims twofold
Reeling, I am fed by musings' honeyed fest!

There is often a lie behind 'I didn't mean it'
A cruel intention in the giving of a gift,
A selfish motive behind a compliment,
A betrayal in a kiss.
There are often truths discovered in fiction,
Goodness accomplished in a white lie,
And usually the worth of a friend unappreciated
Until after they die.

Verse
Lord, Jesus,I find myself in the Valley,
And ask that You guide me through.
Calm my anxious spirit. and show me what I must do.
Saturate me with courage and wisdom,
As I have never before known.
Fill my heart with blessed assurance.
I need not walk this difficult path alone.

Dramatic Verse
How do you expect me to respond
When you say I love you then you're gone
Yes I know you're shy but how can I
Prove my love true when away you fly
Are you teasing and playing a game
If that is so you should be ashamed
Seriously if you really care
Board the love train we've a life to share

(Ellis and Julia Bland)
We strode along the silvery sands,
to the clandestine cove, found of alabaster
The moon shone brightly upon our hands ~
As our feet-- tides of blue gently rushed over.
Our hearts embraced by a sweet chant
‘Though, no words were ever uttered
In this place -- only for lovers meant…
Complete, we swayed with each other.

Verse
many have lost sight..
>love as a law, forgotten.
perception of depth askew..
in search of purpose,
truth viewed relative to goal.
>fun submerged in past...
adolescence falls behind,
as figures make time to pass...
imagination spread thin,
over minds chasing schedules.
conversation lost, with haste,
>poetry, frames the moments.

Sheep
(Children's Rhyme by Joan Donnelly Ellis)
Sheep are neat
Come in a fleet
Sheep can leap
Over fences or on hills steep
Sheep sleep in a heap
Sheep bleat in the heat
Ride in a sheep jeep
People keep sheep
For their wool and meat
People eat sheep meat
Makes me weep
It isn't sweet
Sheep have feet
Hooved feet
Sheep wool is deep
Their friend is Bo Peep
Some keep sheep
as pets
that's neat

Eternal Family
If I a mere human can love my enemies
Those actively engaged in atrocities
Such as spreading lies, secretly plotting my demise
If I can sacrifice my early morning
Obey God's command and pray for my foes
Who've neither loving heart nor shame of their iniquity
How much deeper do you suppose
God's love for you goes and desires to make you a member
Of His Eternal Family?
