They rode to matches in an old school bus.
The rookies at the front, old players in back,
the coach, by the driver, "she's one of us!".
Wore team colors out, came home wearing black.
An ice hockey team, the pride of Humbolt,
met a 40 ton semi that just didn't break.
Sixteen young players' futures bought to a halt
by a worn out driver, barely awake.
Six thousand people in that prairie town,
a whole nation cried for their sons that night,
but not enough tears the sorrow to drown,
of a mother sobbing, eyes wet, throat tight.
Think on your kids, playing sport, feeling fine,
then think on the loss at lonely stop sign.

Twenty-two Swans
Line the runway.
This years rookies
Practice take offs and landings.
A rapid splash dance
Followed by the whirring sound
Of fiercely powerful wings.
They will be gone soon
Leaving the pond to its ice.
Twenty-two Swans
Check out time is half October.

When the temp goes down smiles come out.
You can hear the cheers of athletes shout.
Coming from competitors of all walks of life.
Piercing the chill like butter with a hot knife.
Strapping up ski boots to hit the steep slopes.
Some rookies are naturals learning the ropes.
Bundled up and ready to get up from a spill.
Back to flying down that flurry covered hill.
Helping cheer up a buddy short on confidence.
Since sportsmanship pays us back in cents.
There’s more than one winner in every race.
If you do your best, the prize is on your face.
So whether standing on skates or skis.
Or falling and pushing on with sore knees.
There’s a champ fighting to better ourself.
This isn’t for the glory, it’s to feel real health.
Count them out and they’re coming up winners.
Earning every bite of the hot recovery dinners.
So enjoy the show, because they’re having fun.
No matter the standings of when it’s all done.

Sometimes life's a competition of how far we can throw,
Or simply having the greatest mind to win an intelligence show.
Certainly, there is still one thing to know,
Even the toughest or smartest of man contains a piece of his heart that is soft as dough.
The variety of flavors and sizes we come in are wide and plentiful.
Underneath our regenerating skin is one pretty tough skull,
As we are all created from a genetic code that was once considered a solid whole.
Now remember each and every one of us contains a different life goal,
And even the craziest of extremes can seem like someone else's version of dull.
Even if we are children for the first time learning the ABC's,
Or possibly someone who has spent a lifetime beating up their knees.
Somewhere there is an expert teaching the up and coming rookies,
As the fact will always remain that we are all just a bunch of tough cookies.

Looking forward all winter for my vacation
A three-day excursion put on by We Are One Nation
We parked our RV’S near the foothill,
then hiked and climbed top of the cliff and met Will
When the sign appeared Reggae Pon the Mountain,
we were quickly escorted to the water fountain
Come and jam to the tunes of the Marleys
Hanga-langa and check out the Harleys
The Jamaican food—colorful, soulful—sublime
One look and I knew right away I would need more time
to enjoy Reggae 'Pon The Mountain
We bought masks, jewelry and tasted the cookies
Ingredients pure, strong, overwhelmed—we felt like rookies
C’mon stay mon, enjoy the music all day, sangalanga on Topanga
You know the Canyon known for the rock-stars?
Three days of festive delight, tonight be romantic, sleep in your cars!
Our host thanked us and said Jah be with you, Rastafari
We waved as he drove off in his Ferrari
We’ll be back tomorrow for the Caribbean callaloo
where we’ll stay all day and enjoy the hullaballoo
A music festival up on the mountain

What you really think I'm going back there
What you really think I act back
Well I hope you ain't seen my past then
Front pages I got em in stacks man

I was the dope runner
I was the cooker man
I was selling cookies and drowning rookies
And everything thing I found man
I was playing hooky since the 6th grade
With 2 girlfriends one on each hand man

When the kids are in the shopping cart
They never stop once they start
Mommy, Daddy, I want these cookies
This candy, this cereal, this pizza, this --
They're pros at it, they never were rookies
When Dad goes shopping, if he's alone
He revels in his 'Comfort Zone'
I'll get this for my breakfast, this for my lunch
This for my dinner, and lotsa snacks, a whole bunch...
But when Mom goes shopping all by herself
Her only thought as she passes each shelf
Is what my husband likes, and how 'bout the kids
~ Never once considers her own needs, God forbid

In grade school we had our bullies
Proved themelves by beating up rookies
Rooks went on to be
Successful peeps
Bullies usually ended up wearing hoodies

Summer time Santa doing his daily chores
Walking around in his Christmas drawers
He never wears shoes says his feet need air
Until he stepped in reindeer poo, he didn’t on a pair
He likes to play jokes on his favorite Elves
He puts their break time snacks high on shelves
There are some old Elves and they are not rookies
They like to make him hunt for his milk and cookies
There is no magic dust or a reindeer spell
If you want to make them fly, just tickle their tail
He picks on his Reindeer and when he wants to have fun
He yells out, its hunting season, and watches them run.

by a proxy delivered
a days sour face
its painted eye fixed on jacob's ladder
and salvation's cherubs
who seven times sevenfold tell the tale
but the tale is threadbare by the time they have spun the spin
all call each other rookies as they verbally fistfight
over the breadcrumb leavings
charred remains of her melted mind
smoulder weakly in the
interment rain
she would sit in the dirt
sketching beautiful things
known for being pretty for all the eyes that don't see
leaving the brick and mortar life
for everything imagination tells you
is so beautiful
you don't want to change the world
just want your world to change

Why is the pitcher in for only two innings or three?
Spring training is going on right now, you see.
From a long winter, veterans scrape off the rust.
Rookies trying to make the team hope it’s not a bust.
They work hard to earn the manager's trust.
You will see players with an unfamiliar name.
Everybody only gets one or two at bats in a game.
On the field for a few innings, then into the dugout they go.
Who is going to make the team? The managers want to know.
Why all of this fuss? There is a very good reason.
The teams are getting ready for a 162 game season.

Under the Broom
Listen to my screwy code
No thief may download:
To conceal from rookies
Under brooms I keep keys;
Knowing, the slovenly lot
Will never touch the rot!
