On one of the myriad bays
along the Maine coast. Keep the holocaust
at bay I said to Dave because
you’ll spend all day gathering
2,000 calories and still be miserable hungry.
An undiminished population of humans is risible.
Black spruce and balsam fir,
you can eat the inner bark
in a starvation emergency.
There’s plenty of Cornus—bunchberry—
each orange pith around the stone
worth maybe a quarter calorie.
Lots of sarsparilla but the fruits
not out yet and to date I have not
savored one. Let’s see—dandelion
of course and huckleberry but
the most important source of sustenance
would be seaweed.
Learn your mushrooms! for the protein.
Accept the situation
come the apocalypse.
I struggle against my insignificance
but it would be better to struggle
against my ignorance.
Less effortlessness, more fishermanliness.
That’s the lesson of this Maine vacation
there’s a lot you can eat when in need—
the hips of roses and the pips of grasses.
And an endless supply of seaweed—
bladderwrack, dulse, kelp and thin green lettuce.
I do not like the skin I’m in -
It’s dotted, dry and wrinkled,
Like paper with a reject poem -
Once smooth, now sadly crinkled.
Each little tap becomes a bruise,
A purple blotch, attesting
To all the years I’ve spent on earth,
A dermal-type divesting.
Some freckles, not here yesterday,
Have multiplied and scattered.
They would have bothered me much more
When my appearance mattered.
What troubles me some others might
Find trite and almost risible.
I should let go, for at my age,
To others I’m invisible.
I have too much sense to have too much sense
or should as enough sense is enough sense,
quite enough perforce because the strings
of pure logic invite a wide
and open-hearted composition,
or always should as common sense to excess
could mean a lack of comic mirth
which is really quite inane because
our periodic folly,
mine and indeed the world around us
as human beings, adds lustre to one’s life
and the lives of others we encounter on and off.
One's frequent social circle notwithstanding
Those little eccentricities that stray into the
luscious meadows of magic mishap that spread joy,
that most magnificent contagion,
the universal crying requisite whose absence
connotes a risible dull void.

Your screams have been heard. Attention drawn
From all corners of earth. But like the parable of
Christ, it falls on rocky ground. Growth grounded.
The envisaged
Struggle,
Dissent,
All - risible.
Wait for sunlight if the moon doesn't
Provide enough light to see your path.
The sisyphean path of forlorn hassle.
Your seed
Of protest
Will end on
Rocky path.

Reining in jet-black steed;
Rangle for her falcon.
Repugnant mudslinging,
Risible in content,
Rankled those in the know.
Recent loss of soulmate;
Ravens smudge the teal sky.

GLOSSARY
Queen Elizabeth II had a good seat, and her love of horses is well documented. [Edited]
Throughout the ages, falconry has been considered the sport of kings. In falconry, ‘rangle’ is a term used for small stones which are fed to hawks to aid in digestion.
The exposé led by her grandson, Prince Harry, had divided a nation—a number of assertions made, have been proven to be false.
Queen Elizabeth II lost her husband on 9 April 2021, whom she had viewed as her soulmate.
A group of at least six captive ravens are resident at the Tower of London. Their presence is traditionally believed to protect The Crown and the Tower; a superstition holds that "if the Tower of London ravens are lost or fly away, the Crown will fall and Britain with it."
God appeared at Sinai
within a thick cloud
Although He spoke
quite clear and loud
A conundrum sure
this is to some
Yet if He be invisible ~
appearances are risible
We who are pink shoes
we always have real fun,
always walking, walking prose ...
parading, parading ... with humor
Constantly we walk so quiet
for walking so much tiredness!
but we gladly adorn fairy feet
we don't complain of boredness ..
We put on our feet and show
elegant body set in glow
we are who carry it
to the prom and sample fair.
We flirt with black shoes
cute but unfaithful companions
oh for tragedy they live all day
silent and stuck to claims ..
They are not smart..what failure
poor guys nor for flirting
bureaucrats they risible faces
all outmoded, tied to shoelaces ...!
Ten thousand eyes will each day pass but not a single one will see,
because the folly of their hubris hides the harsh reality,
and when they walk past homeless people posted prone in poverty,
cold cloaked, they are invisible.
Ten thousand ears will each day pass but not a single one will hear
any proper prayers of the sullen souls that live their lives in fear.
And so they sing their psalms in silence hoping angels will appear,
their sadness semi-visible.
Ten thousand nostrils will each day pass turned up and they’ll all detect
the foul fragrance from a stumbling bum with bubble bath neglect.
And yet their greatest fears are fostered from his foreign dialect.
So sobering, so risible.
Five thousand hearts will each day pass but not a single one will feel
for the burdens borne by a beggar with war wounds that will not heal.
Still they will paint themselves as patriots, American, genteel.
One Nation, indivisible.

Drown not in yummy yesterdays, seize the breeze of today
While intuitive initiatives aplenty beg to be taken
Into your stride if only ears and eyes should every Saturday
Strive to debunk myths of dependency on mistaken
Opinions on dominions of double tongues that drag
A train of ambiguity in an ambience meant to weaken
The resolution wrapped in rapid reflections to brag
Flagging fortunes, sagging sagacity and overt
Vanity and inanity driven beyond conjecture to mug
Denial of pain, create a drought from a flood to assert
Infatuation in a situation where habituation lives
In cycles of woes and wonders interwoven to insert
A full stop at the commencement of a move that gives
Death to joy, fill moments with frowns that down
The motive to live, elevate the motive that forgives
Risible reasons why we play the corny clown
Defend duplicity, caress cash and crash a crown
On limbs of love, cut off our noses, bruise faith
Feel foppish and seal deals that steal our last breath.
Swollen to the brim with puny pride
I take on the seamy side of life a ride
That for me promises bliss
When caution advises
Analyzes and synthesizes
The obsession with a stolen kiss.
Thrown into total disarray
On my knees I bend to pray
Beseeching Providence
In its omnipotence to grant
Me wisdom never again to rant
Nor direct against a foe an egregious lance with credence.
Shaken to my foundation
For my unwise consolidation
I reconsider the way forward
Charting in earnest a new course
Drawing inspiration from a divine source
I reject advice from a clumsy coward and his risible reward.
Feeling forsaken and beaten
Despite being love smitten
I humbly submit
To dictates and edicts that respect
Perfect, select and deflect
The temptation nonsense for me to permit and tweet.
Look beyond hooks of today to books of tomorrow
Anticipate rewards diligence brings
Shunt aside the brunt of sorrow in a row
Disregard strings fastened to risible rings.
Anticipate rewards diligence brings
Participate in activities that foresee the future
Disregard strings fastened to risible rings
Regard in a high perspective a conducive culture.
Participate in activities that foresee the future
Savour flavours and favours of diligence
Regard in a high perspective a conducive culture
Invest in vests whose zest and zeal lie in moderation, variety and balance.

Big smile, laughter with a reason.
Clowns oft disguise their pain with mirth,
like the buffoon, Jackie Gleason.
Stand-up comics are risible;
Dick Van Dyke's stunts were visible.

risible means "arousing or provoking laughter"
Get-go scrupulous attention,
live to cornucopia,
Coherence in familial bonds
must ever stay,
Romantic evening is
reminiscent of happier times,
Are the ones standing by you
on your final day!
Guileless life, a battlefield of
every Titan,
For evolution of the race, you
ought to play,
Contentious hard work makes
it iridescent,
Hypothecate moulding for
betterment as if in clay!
Sun gifted you its brightest
sunshine,
Fragrance added through each
breathful air,
Brew your friends well for a
perfect wine,
Appreciate nature add up to a
day's debonair!!
Life is fugacious yet addicting,
its secrets camouflage,
Adopt blithesome attitude,
risible for a hearty laugh !!

When words defy the grammar rules,
In spelling or in sound,
It’s easy to feel foolish,
Or at least that’s what I’ve found.
Today the word was “risible.”
I’d never heard it said,
So I employed a long “i”
When a short one’s used instead.
My references were visor, rising,
Wise, surprise and more
But indivisible (as in the pledge)
Was at its core.
I guess I learned a lesson
Though I’ve known it all along –
You shouldn’t make assumptions
‘Cause most likely, you’ll be wrong!
