our new remote arrived yesterday
the package weighed nineteen pounds
the instruction book was eleven hundred and sixty-two pages thick
my husband began clicking away with it
managing a tv remote is instinctive for him
there is nothing easy about a remote in my wheelhouse
he goes click, click, click, click, click
without opening the stupid book
I have to ask him to slow down his clicking
to tell me what he has pressed
I try to write it down
but I cannot write that fast

the remote to our TV disappeared last night
my husband and I checked both sides of our chairs
the table, a shelf, the floor, a shoe, the garbage can
My husband asked “do you think Beau has it?”
“Not a chance,” I told him “we would hear him chewing it”.
We turned on the lights and tore the living room apart.
Moved the couch and both recliners.
Put our hands down the recliners three or four more times.
“Your mom’s birthday is tomorrow,” I said “do you think it is her saying hello?”
His mother has been gone twenty years, but this felt like spirit playing tricks.
We already lost one remote to this machine and it was never found.
I will not be surprised if it is sitting here next to our chairs tomorrow.
I was wrong.
It was sitting on the chair in the morning.

exotic continent of contradictions
remote as remote can be
where deserts and cities coexist
where I can still go safari hunting
with traditional tribes like the Maasai

Your hand taps on my arm
then points towards the door
now you have decided
that I can't work anymore
Logging on way too early
I'm due a break for sure
especially for someone
I don't want to ignore
You ask me for a story
one that we've shared before
I'm told I need to read it
sat on the bathroom floor
Time is always precious
who knows what's in store?
I'll always be your grand-dude
but you won't always be four.

Perhaps a right of passage
or a males destiny
controlling the remote
always seemed just right to me.
Skillful flicking fingers
fast on the keys
scanning thru the channels
and with great dexterity.
Change to other stations
commercials gotta go
such a star on the clicker
a real surfing pro.
It's of course my opinion
but these words I extol
all's right in my world
when I have remote control!

we were in Shallotte
far away which is remote
when we bought a boat
we rode down a stream
which did appear in a dream
was rare so would seem
house by bank we bought
with me my wife I had brought
love them both a lot
knew nature was near
bird at window would appear
glad we have been here

Thoughts like entries in a old maritime log;
They're kenneled on a shelf like a dog;
From a ship; dry docked in a bottle,
Within a remote hut; of daub and wattle,
In my mistakes, perhaps there were no lessons found worth learning;
My mind keeps them in a structure; that could so easily be set to burning
I have no desire; to become someone I don't understand
So many that were close to me; have let that foul demon, get the upper hand;
So good is the chance, my memories will be gone historically; without a trace;
Their discovery won't be fulfilled; until there's a ghost, standing in my place

reconstruction
recalling much less than half i wrote
though long ago and miles remote
i remember when
an old black man
walks out from his shack
to fetch his kids' dead kitty cat
then walks back
as I pass by
and glancing up see his eye
meet mine in the mirror and with a sigh
watching end to end
as i round the bend
miss him move again
for we are all now and then
once for all gone with the wind

Ocean turmoil waves thrash with pure fury
Remote stalwart lighthouse on bed of rock
Shaft of light warning ship sails securely
Wild elements bombard around the clock.
On the darkest of night when all is drear
No stars to be seen and bright moon obscured
Mariners stand watch resolute no fear
Brilliant light cleaves darkness all reassured.
Sailor's life remote sailing seven seas
Isolated, lonely yet they endure
In midst of fierce storm, feelings of unease
Midnight watch on duty safety secured.
Dark desolation yet the ship sails on
Mariners singing they're not woebegone

Removed from people, cities and towns were we.
Enchanted by our quaint cottage, we enjoyed the scent of pine trees.
Mountains rose to our north; how fresh was the breeze.
Over to our east were white sand and a clean sparkling sea.
To be so far away from life as usual was rare and freeing.
Embracing peace and solitude, we reveled simply in being!

A walk is willing to go far and wide,.
A whim to take with you is always the wind in the way,
A wind to trample and muster towards triumph and struggle,
A walk will take you there, then take you away,,
The stride determines the goal and it's navigation, it's experience with wonder and wild,.
Strength with perilous perspective,
A walk that's with you, will take your thoughts with occasion and blistfulness,
Hold high the cause of your steps, and
it's motavation when a sudden
turn is deliberate,
Remote and Lively are it's name's

With a remote control
Everything may be at your fingertips
But not human rights
Man with wisdom is difficult to control
Bribery and scandal will be questioned
A peaceful demonstration may occur
Protesting
For human rights and justice
The country is neither under one person
Nor controlled by the only remote control
Called hegemony
But under the whole people's rights
But under God's protection
But under one's conscience
If any

a bus stop
with a shelter
remote and
standing tall
surrounded by
bleak countryside
where no one
lives at all.
does anyone
get off here?
just who
the heck gets on?
where does the bus
that stops here go
and where does it
come from?

With a single click
Everything is at your finger tips
Good enough for the oldies
Who stagger and stumble
But not for the crawlers and toddlers
A wrong click will end their world
But not for the youngsters
Depleting them chances of learning and valueing
The processes of yielding
And everyone is scared of
The single click of nuclear wars
That may end the earth and the universe
And this may be a limit to
The greatest vandalism of mankind
The greatest greed of mankind
The greatest hegemony of mankind
As man can never live alone
Maybe without competitions and confrontations
