Growing up to fast,
Coming of age. 

Both about maturity but different

One witnessed something they were not supposed to see, while the other saw when ready

One forced to be a man, the other gradually becoming a man 

One having a parent who would mentally abuse, while the other has two amazing parents

One having to work hard

The gap between love and true love

When love is good,
it's really great.

Unfortunately for most
when the sparkle fades,
they don't know how to fix it.

Seems easier for many
to clear the slate and 
go for instant gratification
of finding someone new.

They're addicted to 
easy pickings and
the high of novelty.

The other side of that coin
is they are cursed to never
experience the depth
of true and lasting love.

As time passes there is also a change in view
You don't do the same things that you used to do
You learn from your mistakes as you mature
You seem to learn patience as you endure
Things don't hurt you the way that they used to 
You're leaning on a higher source just to get through

Jigsaw Soul

Each passing day puts on display 
a puzzle piece of jigsaw soul.
Providing parts to add to hearts, 
from halfway done to fully whole. 

The bygone years are souvenirs, 
the trinkets of a time gone by; 
though caked with rust, dried blood, and dust, 
they stain, then fade, but never die. 

The decades roll and ring

Maturity doesn't come with age, but in silence, through each page turned with care

Not in crowds or in the spotlight, but in gentle moments, in whispered prayers,
we don't yearn for the life that shines, but for the one that speaks in subtle and discreet

Enjoy your life without being afraid 
Of other people's judgement
Because who think you are bad
Not sure he’s better 
I don't care if you're older or younger
For me, as long as you know how to appreciate will
I respect people, age is a number, maturity is an attitude
Everyone can be old, but not necessarily out of character.

What they say is right

Autumn Side Of September

In the middle ages
these roughed and scuffed decades
between newborn crocus -snow-melt-nursed- and
dried hydrangea blooms sepia-skinned and papery thin
I earned the right to wear sapphires
and burn mademoiselle mistakes with wisdom-fires

I collected years for years to earn my autumn season
—the autumn side of September
hair once a cascade of Sol’s solar flare
now but faded silver streams spilled by

When will I finally fill your shoes, 
Reach maturity like you did?
You seemed to have all the answers
When I was just a kid.
