the papers don’t say it,
they never do—
just the numbers,
like headstones without names.

men and women dropping,
old ones, poor ones,
sick ones who couldn’t pay
for the cure.

you look up,
there’s the smile on tv,
a governor’s smile,
white and sharp as a knife.

but the graves keep filling.

mariquita has many meanings, one not so snug
she is a Spanish word for lovely polka dotted ladybug

Who am I, anyway?

I wear the mask of many faces.
I speak, read, and understand—
sometimes with words,
sometimes telepathy.
My voice changes with my face.

Attuned to me, I become every language you know,
but I do not know the geography of my own soul.

It is a drama mask—

Why I Write Too Many Poems Like This

I guess I never grew up.  I'm not mature. 
Anyway, why'd I wanna do that fur?
My mom called me smart aleck so many times, 
I'd be rich if, for each one, I had dimes.
Want someone to do something, just say "don't". 
It may be dumb, but you can't tell me they won't.
