Life

If life is a cabaret old chum
it's certainly
a comedy
(seen in the long-shot)
and then some
or possibly
a tragedy
(viewed in close-up)
definitely
not a whole bunch of cherries in a bowl
altho' the thought is very droll
there to be tasted never wasted
as movement is a sure sign of life
sitting on the fence makes no sense
hit the streets running
floating locomoting keep on motivating
think on your feet crafty and cunning
a moving target is hard to hit
tho' it will seem
it may be but a dream
and you can take it or not give a whit
in time you'll find what comes after
meanwhile life is what you make it

Contemplating life after listening to the radio late at night...
(a found poem)

Do you suppose thunder island
is in the middle of fire lake?
(I can still hear your voice from across the bay)
Which of us made the first mistake?
I have no time left now to go searching
for maybes without answers.
(I did not find those wings or better things)
If you had only dropped in to see
what condition I was in
(after I tore my mind on a jagged sky)
I would have taken a long shot gamble,
(ignored the green grass and high tides)
rode away with you down a carefree highway,
where we might have found
those castles of stone and peace of mind!

Songs:
Thunder Island by Jay Ferguson, 1978
Fire Lake by Bob Seger, 1980
No Time by The Guess Who, 1969
Just Dropped In by Kenny Rogers and The First Edition, 1967
Green Grass and High Tides by The Outlaws, 1975
Carefree Highway by Gordon Lightfoot, 1974

Ode To An Ocelot

Not a lot of ocelots
are seen in the day
they prefer the evening
or the night
if an ocelot you're hot to spot
altho' it's quite a long shot
an ocelot you want to sight
you may even hit the jackpot
if you do it right
all you've really got to do
is switch off the light

getting a long shot wrong

as it ticks to walk
a way goes, often in for another
rounds of bells, daring
caring as carriage
to bespoken
left wing goes
wanderers does
innocent with blames
love letters
pickup lines
campbell's soup lies, without a droopy
nothing likes hert
miss interpret that
intrepid repose cats
lakey at edminton
empty pens in his mouth

Premium Member The Trigger

Africa is a shotgun
The origin of all civilization
Nigeria is the Trigger
But its a long shot away
From pulling the trigger
Awaiting the rise of the giant
  Of the dark continent
Oh !! Africa how long shall
  Wait for your emergence.

I'll stand tall

You can’t bring me down,
No matter what you do.
You can shout out loud,
But nothing can serve you.
I’ll stand tall

You can yell at the top of your lungs
Or shoot at me with your pistols and guns.
You can say that I’ll lose or fail,
But my success will turn your face pale.
I’ll stand tall

You can try to break my heart
With your words that stab like a knife
Or with your conniving schemes that you plot.
All I know is that you have no place in my life.
I’ll stand tall

This isn’t the end, not by a long shot.
Come at me with everything you got,
But one thing’s perfectly clear;
Your actions will never faze me.
I’ll stand tall

Simply short

Every day is a simple reminder that love can't be taken but cancer can find ye,
Families will lose mothers, fathers and brothers ,sisters and aunties ,Uncles and others,
But with one sad story there's plenty that's good,
With us it's a long shot can't help thinking it should,
Well it wasn't to happen the cancer took hold,
But love got us through this in the story I've told.
I'm not cut out for all this sorrow,
If there was such a thing as days you could borrow,
I would grab a chunk 10months to be Frank,
And who would receive them?
My late partner POINT BLANK.

Premium Member Delhi’s Slums

In Delhi's heart, a tale untold,
Of towering shadows, harsh and cold.
Gleaming steel and vibrant lights,
Hide a stark contrast, unseen at night.

Pan across narrow, winding lanes,
Zoom in on makeshift shacks, defying rains.
Corrugated tin, a patchwork quilt,
Where dreams and desperation, subtly melt.

Close-up on faces, etched with care,
Weathered hands, a burden to bear.
Eyes that hold a flicker of hope,
Yearning for a future, out of this scope.

Tilt down to children, playing in dust,
Laughter echoing, a fleeting trust.
Barefoot innocence, in a world so harsh,
A poignant reminder, of life's uneven marsh.

A long shot captures the skyline's might,
Luxury contrasting, in the fading light.
A silent plea for a helping hand,
To bridge the gap, in this divided land.

Focus on resilience, woven in tight,
A community spirit, burning ever so bright.
For in the depths of Delhi's underbelly,
Lies the strength of the human spirit, yearning to tell me…

It is a story of struggle, yet fight,
Of hope flickering, in the darkest night.
A plea for change, a call for all,
To break the cycle, and answer the call.

Premium Member A Farmer's Lass

Sue was just a farmer's lass
At whom I made an awkward pass ~
She said, Let's have some fun
I'll let you see my bun ~
Too bad dad had a long shot-gun

Aching Heart

Indigestion
Is the question
Brain illusion
Or misdirection

Doctor's pill
This sickly ill
Cannot repair
To fit the bill

Just time to heal
Oh, heartache feel
Is all to quell
My ache and reel

Restlessness
Just to confess
Invades my very
Consciousness

A hope that sticks
Physician's tricks
The long-shot risk
Of one more fix

Like fracture weld
Or soulful meld
Simple solution..
Just to be held

Premium Member Footsteps

There is always the sound of footsteps trailing behind me
And no matter how much I attempt to discover who it is
I have never seen to be successful at all
Everyone believes me insane when I speak of it to them
Telling me that it's my imagination running wild
But I know what I'm hearing
For it's neither loud nor is it quiet
It follows me everywhere I go
Even in my home where it echoes throughout the empty house
It will always fall short of my bedroom door when I slumber
It keeps me restless all night long
And leave me wondering in my head
If it ever enters the room
So I can finally learn the mystery behind the footsteps
But I'm disappointed every single night as the sun arises
It will follow me no matter the weather
The worst of them all is the snow
As the snow makes it seem louder than ever
Frightening me even more
I'm always on edge because of it
And it has put a damper on my relationship with everyone
But that wouldn't stop me not by a long shot
I will prove to everyone that it exists
And then they will stop believing that I'm insane
Right?

Loving People

We love people who hate us
Do all things with kindness
Teaching them more about us
To treat other people with kindliness

Life is too short
Some people don't use money wisely
It is a wide long shot
Their future can be worst

Knowing  to love and  assist others
It is  always pleasing  God
Who is living among us
And want us to continue doing good.

Man, What a Woman

“Let’s do it. Let’s settle this mano a mano.”

“Well, you asked for it and you’ll get it,
What do you want to know, woman?”

“Man, O man, always the cocky ones, aren’t we?
I say, women are better than men.”

“Not even by a long shot. Men are better!”

“Oh, really!”

“Of course, you can’t even crack a walnut without men.
And God made man first,
Woman was an after-thought… there I said it!”

“Say, what! Says who?

“Says God, dummy!”

“Uhhh … what?’

“Yeah, you heard me.”

“No, no, no …
It’s nothing but myth and folktale,
without women, you men don’t stand a chance;
Without us, you have no identity
You don’t even come to exist
if we keep our doors shut…
you know what I mean, don’t ya!”

Chapter

Chapter

The alcove beside the fire place
Oft-times spoke about their restive days
Those from the falls of sobs through the beams of smiles
As we live the de nos jours,
The quarantine debouched into the masses;
Crafts and joints inscribed in italics 'closed'.

Will their love fall apart?
Or
Will it sail highs and lows to en route the foreshore?

Beneath the skin and blood
Tongue cherish mangoes
Thirst quest lemonade
And her frock laces whirled in eddies of wind
(He loved this chapter, it was his favourite by a long shot.)

Premium Member As Is

I fell in love with her because,
She loved me without any clause -
"As is"- it seemed and so I hoped,
So I proposed and we eloped.

But things soon changed, "Who could have thought,
I was so very gravely flawed?!"
To change me was her life long shot
Into a man that I am not.

Puzzled, I analyzed a bit,
And figured - something didn't fit.
Person in question therefore is:
Who I have fallen in love with?

Or maybe there is a slight chance,
If changes she, for a romance?
And then, if she does truly try
As a kind gesture so will I.
