Speed Limits

They pose with the austere stares of
Loving, friendly ghosts —tall, gaunt and lissome,
With big, rounded head.
Draped in weathered robes of care,
They are the only guardian spirits we see.
They have the calming power,
Where drunken machines run amok
Through broiling engine oils
And reckless crankshafts,
Spitting gas, and brittle axles.
Roads are unpredictable.
In winter they storm with the quiet rage of

Mom writes polemics, when a cause grasps her heart
She's a good soul and wants to do her part
A journal took one, so she emailed it to friends

Now draining the swamp
is a worthwhile topic,
Only those who could drain it
appear to be myopic.

I oft hear the catch phrase,
“It’s for the American people”.
But if swamp truth be known
it’s usually for congresspeople.

Their interest lies mostly
in things benefiting their person.
So as a consequence, I think,
I’m seeing things worsen.
