The Forgotten Leaf

The Forgotten Leaf

From autumn's aged bough I took my flight,
Through woodland streams where whispered waters gleam;
I sought fair spring beyond the grasp of night,
Yet none would pause to share my silent dream.

The birds and winds became my faithful guide,
Through frost and bloom, through summer's golden fire;
Still every passing soul unseen would glide,
Nor lift my name from sorrow's darkened mire.

A lily asked, "Why grievest thou alone?"
I sighed, "My heart's a haunted palace still;
Where joy once reigned, cold silence claims the throne,
And empty halls obey forgotten will."

The world saw waste where one young child found art;
Thus lost leaves live forever in one heart.

574 LETTERS

AUTHOR'S NOTE
This poem is inspired by the true story of poets Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Robert Browning. Bedridden and isolated, Elizabeth received a letter from Robert that began, "I love your verses with all my heart." Over 20 months they exchanged 574 letters that mended her fear and gave her life back.

        574 LETTERS

Elizabeth lay bedridden in a lonely room,
A wounded bird behind walls of gloom.
Then came a letter, soft as a spell,
_"I love your verses with all my heart" Robert would tell.

A crack of light filled her cage of fear,
Whispers of love drove the mist from here.
574 letters crossed the night,
Mending her wings with gold and light.

Like lilies that grew in abandoned ground,
Her broken life to heaven was bound.
He didn’t burn the past or the pain,
He wrote her hope till she lived again.

So mend, don’t burn. Write, don’t run.
Love can heal anyone, anyone.

Lilly Mae

I had a little dog;
Her name was Lilly Mae.
She was such a silly girl
Who loved to romp and play.
Two dogs long
And half a dog high,
She was quite a funny sight—
Always by my side.
No matter where I wandered,
She was never far away.
My faithful little shadow,
My sweet and playful Lilly Mae.

Green coin floats, silent~
dragonfly lands, kisses ripples.
Beneath, shadow drifts:
a koi’s gold swallowed by dusk.

Lavender lips dripping lies
Chocolate pools pupils eyes
A taste for expensive drinks
Fast car fast hand and mind I think

She walk so gracefully almost slivers
Words she is saying makes one shiver
Confident in her own flawless skin
Can talk a paper bag out of its gin sin

Her name is Lilith but we call her Lilly
She is quite a character with personality
She’s chasing dreams and money green
Likely to succeed she’s homecoming queen

When Lilly Kisses Rose

When lilly kisses rose
and lilly I did know
and trees I thought
grew very deep
and lived
within the forest.

And green
the hay is sweet
and brown
dry moss cries
why.

And lillies white
remind the sky
blue cotton
clouds they swirl.

There grew the two.
so dear
most thought.

Short breath
two centered
scents.

And how
before
them both
I stood
once near
their hearts
too far.

And when
I know
how
roses grow
and pressed
so hard
was I.

And cups
of milk
I loaned to
them
cinnamon
and spice.

Sugar sweets
they made
from them
and
now to know
both why.

While
lilly bridged
sweet roses
bank as
water rushes
by.

Lilly

Walking across the Garden
Loneliness being the Burden
Garden of Roses being the Hood
And the smell. . . so Good
Suddenly appears the Lilly
But the Scape. . . not Hilly
My heart. . . Stands aloom
and deleted is the gloom

Premium Member A HAPPY THREESOME

A young, enchanting Lilly stands tall and oh so very proud,
Others waiting in line to bloom, they silently vowed,
Eager roses showing off their virgin white beauty,
Vain, trying to steal the show, maybe feeling a little guilty,
Bougainvillea, vivaciously display a color of vibrant indigo,
They lean forward as I approach whispering, watch me grow.

A flower for dreamers
For explorers of the unknown
The pungent perfumed petals
Will permeate a home

Nothing compares to the
memories Scent recalls
Like a silk thread,
Tied to stems,
Connecting all

A zip line of sweet smelling savores
Special moments gone by
We remember them all
My star gazer lilies and I.

Sunlight's touch only by its flaming torchlight through majesty
Cornflower blue sky, drawn steadfastly upon my face, amid scarlet marigolds,
Orange and pink dahlias, snapdragons, and pungent garden green.
Our bright colors and strong fragrances attracting captivating,
Winged pollinators for our tasteful nectar.

She walks through the garden and lingers.
Well-seen she's lost to my large orange and brown freckles beauty.
She bends and removes me from my place.
Brings me up to her nose, breathe in my sweet scent.
All the others in jealousy, for I'll be a part of a bouquet for the indoors.
