McKee Springs petroglyphs
southeast flank of the Ulnta Mountains
twenty-two miles past Quarry Visitor Center
a long ways from Kansas City
take island park Road
it is impassible during wet or winter weather
call and ask before you attempt passage
do not touch the story-telling petroglyphs
they are fragile and irreplaceable
do not trace or rub, you could ruin them
the park is heavily patrolled too
dinosaur remains are visible there also
embedded in the rocks
hinting at earlier civilizations and species
both cultures there to view and visualize as you may
feelings of connectedness with both ancients and dinosaurs
found few places in the continental USA
but found there

As I look over the
unbridgeable chasm
from the cliff to the sea,
churning on the rocks below,
I realize that why
I cannot bridge the gap
is not because of what I am,
but, because of what I'm not.
I'm immutable
I'm immovable
I'm imputable
I'm imbalanced
I'm imbittered
I'm immature
I'm immobile
I'm immaterial
I'm immense
I'm impassible
I'm impartible
I'm impalpable
I'm impenetrable
I'm so 'hmm'

When you wish upon a star,
you’ve immolated, chances are.
Better wish upon the moon;
at least they’ll find your body soon.
But if you wish on Terry’s loo,
then all your dreams may turn to poo.

Backlit snow-covered mountains in a Swiss hamlet
A place I have dreamed about but have not actually met.
Saturated in snow, covering black evergreen trees.
A magical place, in my dreams, that feels like a tease.
I create an impassible road, with no cars around.
It is a hushed reverent night, with not one single sound.
There arises in the night a marigold amber moon
I feel something unusual will be happening soon.
The air is cold, I can feel my breath as I walk.
Quietude surrounds me in this mountainside lock
I feel loved, cherished and safe in this dream
The moon sends me love in each of his beams.

I transformed Iowa’s meadows and forests overnight
Changing her children’s delight at first snow to fear of the cold
Gloating and laughing, I introduced some to frost bite.
What did I care if their pinky toes fell off?
That’s enough, my husband said.
What did he know? I whirled away, flicking him with ice.
I was not finished for I did not want to merely be a blizzard.
I wanted to be the worst snow blizzard in Iowa’s history.
I slickened their streets with the blackest of invisible ice.
I allowed icicles to drip from the roofs of their houses.
Their snow was piling up now, in five foot snow drifts.
Was I finished? My husband asked me. Ha!
I swirled up my snow and shot a snowball into his eye.
My winds picked up speed; I was on a roll.
I tossed snow so thickly in the air that the drivers could not see.
The freeways and schools were closed.
I waited all day long for the radio to say worst snowstorm in history.
Little did I know it would take about two years before I heard this.
In the meantime I kept things snowy, icy, and impassible.
Reveling in my power. Oh, I took down the power lines too. A fantastic time!

Militate on one another with great passion
the nonperson,
The fusty one.
Nothing fancy, delightful or bonvivant
Having a genteel attitude, but impassible
Vagabond. Loner. Prodigious.
Yet no blandishment.
Complicated as a merman
Porous because of mutilation
The obsequy closed with an
Elegy
Rigmarole. Rigmarole.
Not the booby hatch which
hosts may
The railroad tied on knots.
Big as an intrusive blunt forced
object
The copulation of blood and oxygen
Wins over the slightly manipulated mind.
From inside, out
Hapless haploids creating the uselessness of existence
Making, permanently each place
devoured
Feeling the blades and molar impressions piercing through each layer.

The rain poured in torrents like tanks
from the dense hanging clouds onto the homes,
and streets- the river in time overflowed its banks.
Soon the streets were impassible - all was lost
but still people fought against the rising water,
as houses disappeared bit by bit, hope was tossed.
Dreams drowned in sheets of endless rain
and the people stood back from their attempts,
realizing it was the end and left- their souls in pain.
Seeking sanctuary they sought safety leaving
in crowded boats rain ravaged,
only waves flow now and all that is left- is weeping.

Your words ringing in my ears
Like bits of history
Of time lost
Play their tune
In my absent mind
Numbed by the frozen wait
Now silence keeps sneaking
Into my melancholy
Tinged with instant
Memories
The magic buried
In permanent obsessions
Disappears
In impassible moving sands
As I watch
Hopeless
The evanescent vision
Slip by
On the worn path

Behold the pioneering spiritualist, living on the edge
Of the civilizations harshest grid, seeking tranquilities
Harmony beyond the brick lined streets of stress and
Strife of the big city life!
These individualist of true grits foundation, whom live
Life to the fullest extent, tasting the winds of freedom
With every breaths inhalation and exhaling joy of
Revelation in this venue of isolation, known as
Alaska the last frontier!
In clarity’s ice kingdom of the forbidden land, does
Not alone wolf cry echoing, in the timbers breaking dawn
Of twilight's final hour, here endurance's vitality is set to fight and survive this call of the wild struggle!
Within the forest wilderness man and women,
Climb the heights vast divides of the untamable,
To achieve a simpler existence, of our forefathers
Harvesting the ancient theology, of the pioneering
Spirit!
Time reflecting architects thriving on the thrill
To endure, savoring the concurring desire to challenge
Against the obstacles seemingly impassible, living
Off the land and being grateful just for the promise
Of this opportunity to live freely, as men were meant
Too!

Escaping the Clouds
by Odin Roark
Entering one's Now…
How long the traverse.
Mountainous obstacles
Seem not of our creation,
Yet rock hard impasses appear
Where clear path seemed obvious,
Now impassible.
The best laid plans
Swirl amidst the winds of challenge,
Icing our tenacity,
Whiting-out our vision,
Deafening our ears to resolve.
Made to stop,
We seek refuge.
Cower we must,
Time's weather independent
Unaware love's thermal core
Knows but limited defense.
Suffering assumes the time.
We fearfully give it,
Granting indecision
Until we satiate.
Sentience abides.
Patience its virtue.
The conscious
Somehow realize a clearing,
Both path and atmosphere
Reveal survival routes.
Bad weather lifts.
We often know not why.
A path reveals itself,
Accompanied by fixed ropes of trust.
Having exited the overcast,
We embrace our trailhead,
Willingly remove extra weight
No longer needed upon our shoulders.
Stripping to our nakedness
We ready the entering of one's Now,
That place where past and future
Are but interference to being with the moment.
Escape from clouds,
The engulfment we mostly create within.

Chapter 9: Portaging Older Dams
Eleven Minnesota dams we had to portage
All without clear use for folks today
But as the Mississippi is a ‘navigable’ river.
Owners are required by law to transport boats
Around these artificial barriers to ‘commerce’
And ‘social intercourse’ (like our canoe.)
This can make the dam owners hard to find!
Most of these dams backed up water only
For short distances, historic nuisances today,
Maintained only now to prevent further damage
To the altered ecosystem they themselves created,
A rare incidence of business being held responsible.
Or a clever ruse to avoid the real clean up costs?
It’s hard to trust that anyone alive is not ‘Me! Me! Me!’
But the owner’s of the dam with the three mile
Impassible boulder field below it won our praise.
A pickup was sent with two strong men
Who picked up the canoe gear and all,
Slipped it into the back, and tied it down.
Within an hour we were back in the water,
Paddling downstream with the current.

Her will is iron, baked in an ashy bleakness over eyes that were once bright
–she longs to break.
A thousand tears would evaporate on this impassible rage,
she glares with dull purity of thought.
Triumphant fists gloat above her potency, imploring
–she watches in scornful fascination.
Every breath rasps over the dagger in her throat, aching to be released.
she swallows harshly.
-she spins her web in secret -
