Premium Member Sand Promises

Those were times when I believed everything.
You seemed to me a treasure of delight.
Your presence, for me, was a blissful spring
Often amidst rainbow clouds, I took flight.

I said I'd bring you the sun, moon, and stars.
You said you'd lull me in your long love waves
Your fancies filled my passion's empty jars
To our mirages had we become slaves?

Were your toothpaste smiles splashy soap bubbles?
Were those goody-goody words bright balloons?
Did you think too that I'd end your troubles?
We couldn't dance to each other's tunes.

Our promises had been castles on sand.
Realizing, let's now walk hand in hand.

Premium Member Goody Goody Gumdrops

Goody Goody Gum drops,
It was an expression of delight
When children saw this treat
Their eyes lit up like stars at night
The inventor Murray Taylor
Concocted this ice cream treat
That was bubble gum flavoured ice cream
Filled with gum drops. What a treat.
Over the years, Goody Gumdrops lost its favour,
But the expression Goody Goody Gumdrops
It is an adage of delight for us all to still savour.

Premium Member Goody Goody Gum Drop

goody goody
gum drop
more than sweets
may mean
a lot

ate a gum drop
just popped it in
rolled around
let it spin

left and right
hugged my cheeks
swashed about
then repeats

savor the juice
sugary delight
tickles tongue
this tiny bite

stuck to teeth
once it's in
while i smiled
big green grin

might not be
a better thing
than this
except a warm
sloshy kiss

Premium Member Goody Two Shoes

goody-goody
was she
must say
a bit
too much
for me

goody shoes
are two
in one
she stuffs
those don'ts
been done

the other
kept for
her dos
those rights
best left
outta sight

we all
won't see
these things
well done
saved for
foolish fun

one goes
near here
nor there
searching so
for goodys
who care

Premium Member Peter Popper's Poem-Popper

Peter Popper's Poem-Popper
  played and popped out poems
     all the livelong day

But one not-so-pleasant day
  Peter Popper's Poem-Popper
stopped producing poetry
What did Peter Popper plan to do

He took his broken Poem-Popper
to the Broken Poem-Popper Fixer-Upper Man
where the principal poem-popper fixer upper
applied a dandy poem-popper fixer upper patch

'Goody, goody, gumdrops!' cheered Peter and his friends
  but their cheers were premature
    the Fixder-Upper didn't work
Instead of 'pop-pop-pop,' it went 'ping-a-ling'

So back went Poor Peter Popper
  to that Fixer-Upper Man
And he demanded Poetry this time!
The owner gladly mixed in silly-putty
But all the poems came out nutty

Peter-Popper told the owner 'Put in Pets!'
Every kind of pet that you can get
So he did ~ but Pete's not holding his breath...
Police told him 'bout a compound word
    ~ Owner called it 'Popper-Death'

Rebel

Rebel

His hair was orange
His classmates didn’t understand.
They talked about him behind his back
Why would a boy dye his hair?
The next insult--
He pierced his ears
Why was the big, smart jock doing these things?

They couldn’t see the bigger world
They hadn’t been exposed to much
Kept in their small-town, small-minded state

He did not follow; he wasn't a sheep
He even possessed the magic to pull his straight-laced sister
The goody-goody to small, rebellious acts
A piercing AND a TATTOO

You see he was a REBEL--
He was fire in a darkened room
And the world--
The world was better for having him
IN it

Even for the brief time
That he graced these shores
BUT--
His light shines on in all those--
Those whose fortune it was
To know him

Expressing Emotions

A lot many interactions
On those umpteen ‘social’ platforms
Exchange of views and ideas
Between the two
Pouring their ‘hearts’
Or better still ‘minds’ out
Wearing your heart on your sleeve
Is a complete ‘No, No’, you see
Still there’s ‘trust deficit’
In this opaque, false, goody-goody world of appearances
‘Understandings’, ‘Misunderstandings’
‘Jumping to conclusions’- everything goes
Now don’t ask me
Amidst all this
“Where are the emotions”?
As true emotions and words can clear the air
But you see people are clever, emotions are trained
Given ‘thinking space’ in the mind
Worse, language is kept aside
And we are made to go back to
Those pre-language days of signs and gestures
Emotions expressed from the other side-
A laughing and weeping emoji at the same time
To let confusion reign supreme
And keep different possibilities open
(Even a laughing emoji, in context, may not make any sense)
‘Folded hands’
Expressing ‘thankfulness’ and ‘enough’ simultaneously
To keep the other person guessing
So, in this complex world
You also better not look for straightforward answers
Express your emotions the ‘emoji’ way
Language be damned!

Queen on top Jack on top Goody Goody Glub Glub Glub
                                   They played mouth to mouth
                                   They played North and South
They slept on the win Queen to Jack and Jack to queen -love

Sisters and Brother

people say sisters are there for you to talk to, to look up to, to be there for you know matter what.
well in my case i cant trust my sisters all thy do is judge me and make fun of me jst because im a goody goody and im weird, well i rather be a good girl and weird thn how they wer when they wre my age
i can never count on them and any time i tell them a secret that i dont want any one to find about thhey end up telling every one
i like being myself but my sisters judge me and make fun of me with there friends
i can trust my older brother hes some one i can look up to
some one i trust he doesnt judge me he helps me with my problems
i love my brother

Return To Me

From others’ looks and lips
And between the rustle of papers
I pick up this goody-goody mask.
I carry it to the office
To the hotel and streets
I will not be I there-minus that.
And when gravel grate
Under my bare and weary feet
Gasping for breath in the searing heat
To myself I am back
Rid of that coward’s mask
For it doesn’t go with sweat and dirt.

And Now Mend

(letters to my presido-elect): i

good must be lucky
else
luck must be goody
that niger now lurks in seas of goody-goody

1960 as father sang
was her year unlucky
who dwelt
on many a natural grant
with sons great
that beheaded must
lie in tombs
the untimely tombs
of countless days

and now mend
your brutalised
your kwashiokored
your maimed
your exiled

for
good must be lucky
else
luck must be goody
that niger now lurks in seas of goody-goody
