Goody Goody Gumdrops

Goody Goody Gum drops, It was an expression of delight When children saw this treat Their eyes lit up like stars at night The inventor Murray Taylor Concocted this ice cream treat That was bubble gum flavoured ice cream Filled with gum drops. What a treat. Over the years, Goody Gumdrops lost its favour, But the expression Goody Goody Gumdrops It is an adage of delight for us all to still savour.

I remember "Goody Goody Gumdrops" describing the vicar's wife, or a spoilt brat, as gumdrops were a terrible sticky mess! But enjoyed your poem! Aloha!

Oh, how I remember hearing this when I was a kid. Thanks for bringing it to mind, Shirley. I remember we also said it sarcastically when someone got what was coming to them. I never really thought about its origins. Thanks.

That's right, Milt. The expression on the face showed what interpretation applies.

Yeah! This one went 'out' a long time ago. Kind of like 'Good and Plenty,' 'Bit o' Honey,' and Pez Dispensers. Great stuff!

It's Weird how things are brought to mind out of the blue, like old sayings etc., isn't it, Gershon.

I haven’t heard that in so long Shirley….that took me back to simpler days! Lovely! You should compile a book for your family and grandkids Shirley….your poems are so versatile….interesting to every walk of life! You tell me to do it but you should do also….I think that would be so beautiful for your family. Debx

Lovely simpler times, for sure, Deb. My poetry is not poetic enough for most tastes; I, like you, am in awe of some of the poetry I read on soup. I appreciate your support and encouragement, Deb. Take care, Old Duck X
