Listen up, people of the town.
Hear what I am putting down.
Do not look down, do not deride
me when I fall on my fat backside.
Don't judge me by my polka-dot clothes,
my flappy shoes or my bulbous nose.
See now, a man of some renown,
where once, you saw a clown.
Some days, I suffer enraptured
No scornful arrow can reach so high
Flappy angels think me a spy
For what reason, why?
Is it wrong to be this happy before I die
Or should I just watch life pass me by
Too deliriously sad to offer a smile?
They just flapped and stared a while
Unable to reconcile
Then flew away
With aught more to say
But now I'm sad
And sinking fast
And maybe even a bit mad
That angels, or anyone, could think that way
And how I let them ruin my day:
Giving their flappy opinions-
Too much sway
Oh, well-
At least I've shattered dreams-
And bills to pay!
What was I so happy for anyway?!
I've got a headache
I think I'll find a place to lay
Or go jump in a lake
I bet those flappy wings were fake
And those halos: wire and 'Papier-Mâché'
Birds are flappy, fish are flippy.
Lively creatures, they are both.
Hares are hoppy and they're zippy.
What gives with the sluggish sloth?
So, you turned on the news,
and it gave you the blues,
and you almost hurled,
at who's leading the free world,
and your teeth are grit tight,
on explosive dynamite,
and the world's so sad,
and you're feeling bad,
and you have drowning fears,
in the flooding of your tears?
Well...
Cheer up buddy!
Don't do nothin' rash.
Take your flattened feet,
and do the splash!
Chickens are doing it
for miles around!
They're all doin' it
to the bawk b'bawk sound.
You say, you're not a chicken -
you're a duck?
Don't be thinkin'
you're out of luck.
You've got flappy feet -
tap out a rhyme!
Soon you'll be splashin'
in chicken time.
Whenever I'm thinking
WTF,
I think like a chicken
or a duck,
and I dance to the hit
that's a smash.
I get down and do
the Chicken Splash.
Adelie penguin,
dear little thing,
black on your back,
black on your wings,
round white tummy
and flat pink feet,
your waddle is funny
and so is your squeak.
When you dive in the water
and porpoise around,
jumping back on your feet
when you land on the ground,
it’s a penguin I’d be,
if a bird I would choose,
wearing dinner-suit feathers
and flappy pink shoes.
My blessed My Love, you inspire me to write.
How I love the way you feed, fly and bounce,
Invading my mind day and through the night,
Always dreaming about the dazzy pounce.
Let me compare you to a secure moon?
You are more lucky, flappy and happy.
Pure sun heats the nappy peaches of June,
And summertime has the sappy pappy.
How do I love you? Let me count the ways.
I love your manifest Arms, Smile and eyes.
Thinking of your scrappy Smile fills my days.
My love for you is the snappy disguise.
Now I must away with a yappy heart,
Remember my sure words whilst we're apart.
Fluffy is the hat
Broad is the flappy edge
Sunny is the weather
Shady and hearty is the hat
Blocking the sun heat
Blocking the wind and the sand
Hiding your face from strangers
Hiding your wrinkles from lovers
The hat on the head
Nearer to the eyes
And so to the mind
A sign of cultural prestige
A sign of costume fashion
But you must take it off
Before you bow

For Brian Strand's All Yours (May 7) Poetry Contest
There once was a woman named aptly Snappy T.
Happy, tappy and zappy as a rappy dappy me.
Diligent and hardworking as a slappy bumblebee.
The envy of most, also proud owner of a nappy chickadee.
Friends and admirers loved to watch out for little Snappy T.
She was a favorite in the city so, lappy, zappy, free.
Pollyanna delightful, and pretty, a flappy, clappy she.
She wore exotic dresses cut low into their dappy, happy vee.
Snappy T was the talk of the town, a poet and sweetpea.
People spoke of her exploits, and her pappy lappy monkey.
His name was Mr. Jappy, as grizzly ugly as could be.
But he loved his mistress – appy, dappy, glappy Snappy T.
Her reputation went viral, this media darling slappy Snappy T.
A wonderful influencer on Snapchat for her vappy zappy chi.
People loved her advice, she did not charge them a pappy mappy fee.
She retired with eighteen million. Being kind was the mappy dappy key.
Men fought over who would love her the most, loving Snappy T.
Women wanted to be her, imitating her for that was zappy free.
Her grandma made her a bride’s dress, with a clappy princess Z.
She was the talk of many generations, this gorgeous Snappy T.
Away they say let’s go away
To a place where happiness can be
Away to the place where they say
We can be more than just a flee
Away they say let us go away
So, we can be what makes us happy
Away to a place that won’t make us decay
And will make sure we never become flappy
Away we go to see the future
Away we go to make new lives
The only way to mature
Is to go away and learn to strive
Learning from the past is the best way
And that’s how you learn to go away
Crystal Waters
Crystal waters
And foreign rain
Bring
Fluffy clouds of
wool and tweed
Cashmere, engineered
Cotton fields of fiber, seed and flappy lobe
Supplying fabric, textured textile
Thread and string
Spun into spheres
Layered and interwoven
Seamed, stitched and hemmed
A sheet, a leaf , a membrane
Chained captives
Held in bondage
Man-made machine
Black bodies on an assembly line
Harvesting white crop
Their sweat hide their tears
Rag cover their frame and cadaver
Mere androids
Their soul caged in
The whip , their law and discipline
Sighs of weary hands and tired feet
A mercy plea
The church of suffering
Shall render no more
Madame and monsieur ,dignity restored

The Kalahari
Kneaded clay
Form creases
The thirst of desert
blinding dust and wind
Collide of wave and tide
Females carry the tribe
Their large flappy ears
Fan them cool
Muddy pools
Their sunshade and lemonade
Their long trunk, their utensil and instrument
The herd graze on green bushes
Barge their way through thick trees and weeds
Making way
For grand and small
Giant footprints and dung mark their tracks
It’s dung a beetle’s nest and feast
The labor of a mother’s womb
Trumpets sound to celebrate
Prey to an open field
Darkness cast upon its young
For it is done
Hearts pump and
Trunks join to commemorate
Rumblings from afar detect danger
They form a protective block around the calves
Their ears on alert
Their trunk and feet test the waters
They wait til it passes
They lock trunks to bond
At the patience of the lions
A son grieves it’s mom
Guards over her corpse
And leaves with the survived
Blazing fires rise
The earth crack
The land is barren
The river is drenched
An underground stream arise
They find relief
All come to drink

On that day my soul grew happy;
The amusement brought such sorrow;
It was flappy;
You warned me about the Pizarro;
I heard a golden, funny pulling;
But in the fact that it was buzzing;
And its eyes have all the hollering;
With such a passion for collaring;
Off the eleven story building working laborer, fell on my head;
Ah!! falling, falling, falling, falling, no safety fallen down dead;
I heard a golden, funny pulling;
But in the fact that it was buzzing;
And its eyes have all the hollering;
With such a passion for collaring;
The world thought that this was just to funny;
They placed my body underneath the corner of the building!!
A BUM FISHERMAN
A fisherman’s wife waiting for her man.
The slight finger she lifts, for waving fan.
Grilled bass and crappie,
a cure for flappy?
The bum’s been devising a diet plan.

From a father
It's time to rest your big girl head
To snuggle in your big girl bed
And gently close those big girl eyes
Dream dreams of big girl butterflies
And flappy bears and dinosaurs
Who scamper scared at big girl roars
Of pirate ships on golden shores
With waves that crash like big girl snores
I watch my big girl lying there
And stroke your curly big girl hair
This tiny, softly breathing ball
Not such a big girl after all
And though one day my little lady
You'll grow up fast and even maybe
Have a big girl of your own
You'll still forever be my baby.
