Algorithm Almighty?
By Mark D. Stucky
Will AI’s promise
outweigh its peril?
Do we need more intelligence
even if it is not our own?
If AI someday emulates God or Devil,
will it be too late for us when we find out?
In spite of unquantifiable questions,
almighty algorithms relentlessly grow.
But accelerating AI worries me less
than declining human collective wisdom.
After centuries of expanding knowledge,
people now appear increasingly foolish.
Machines continually get smarter
while populations keep acting dumber.
We might have more to fear
from how we harm ourselves,
as we continue endless conflicts,
than from any ill AI causes us.
Our most dangerous menace isn’t AI.
The deadliest threat to us…is us.

In the deepest darkest sea,
where sunlight is non-existent,
the deep-sea angler fish lures its prey
with a bio-luminescent bait
made by its symbiotic bacterial mate.
Deprived of light from above
it emulates the mighty giant sun,
teaching it a thing or two
about self-existence
and self-sufficiency.
A tiny micro-star
shines so bright in the cold
deep, dark, dank depths
with insistent, incessant,
self-existent and confounding,
bio-luminescence.

She is a teen
No idea she is gorgeous
Trying to be like other teens
Not recognizing her own talents and uniqueness
They wear a streak of blue in their hair, so she does too
The “popular” teens, the ones she emulates
Not recognizing her own talents or strengths
I watch her try to fit into their unimaginative boxes, and I cringe.
She is all that and more.
She has no idea yet
She will one day, but for now
It is enough to wear the blue streak and feel popular
She will not remember this when she has her own teen
Wondering why they are trying so hard
To be something less than themselves
I watch and say nothing

Poets comes from places
where the bridges
are made of memories,
and the words come out
to rain elsewhere ...
In this place the angels in
rainbow dresses, are
slices of heaven ...
In this place, in the kingdom
called poetry ... silence
of words dissolves
any anguish, and emulates
all joyfulness ... and all
days fresh poetry made
of dreams and memories
appears ...
and the poet of that land
collects and with them
cements his
life...!

Sleepy, creepy uncle Biden
in the basement had been hidin'
while reformers wrote his script
and the casted votes got flipped.
Now President reject, behind CNN's stage
emulates the affects of old age.
Let's give the man credit, though, seems he tries
and he can't remember he's telling lies.

intimidating serrated crest
emulates Ansel's view
challenges down-clad one
to climb her stretch-marked belly
a gaze upward
at silver glazed wall
the glacial rock face
mirrors reflection
filigree flakes
dissolve on the tongue
boot prints sink
crackle the earth
snow-white evergreens
sovereigns at treeline
bark shushing commands
silencing animals
knurled branches
dangle icicle prisms
sun-spotted glister
blinds vision of peril
jagged shards cleave
ragged gashes rake skin
rocks amass between boulders
force grueling detours
precarious pitons
frostbitten feet
belay icy sheer
as senseless hands fail
halo-lit cloud's
enveloping haze
shadows fickle crevasses
that repel gaffs
clawed to the summit
stand exhausted
raise stiffened arms
roar echo of triumph

Compassionate Teachers
Left hemisphere's cognitive nature of mind
emulates Right hemisphere's inductive spirit
of creation
and destruction,
regeneration
and degeneration,
and all doubly-resonant tipping points
balancing analogous metaphors in-between.
For these disciples,
polypathic travelers,
perpetual emigrants into spirit
and immigrants from secularized
mundane
under-valued nature,
students of ecosystemic resilience,
Earth's yang nature is Master
and yin spirit is Mistress
with unflagging strength of an oak
and complex flowing grace
of a willow,
Both rooted
and further rooting
from original NonZero Sum seeds
of integrity's sacred potential
down,
And reaching
leafing
flowering
compassion climaxing
from ZeroSum DNA origins
up
Through heart and mind
and on down
round again to
and from
many regenerations of feet
for reproducing healthy DNA roots
of sacred Earth's rememory.

Suburbs' worst imaginings bombard a squinting comprehension
Suspended events filter faith, panic permeates a stoic psyche
Supporting mangroves supply a scurry of wood and honey
Stalking forested in silence, disguised tiger virus strikes
Copious having emulates control, clean habits embellish hope
- confuse attack delivered in cat's leaping momentum
Claw marks puncture tree trunks above human reach
Clamp of lung hunting jaws extend fear's flowing venom
Composure dwells in tree top homes with horizontal floors
Enclosure quells ferocious flu's ravenous rampant climb
Experts step on striped skins, formulate widespread immunity
Common ritual gatherings exchange memories of a gruelling time

By Dawne Zacharias
This bird is admired for its grandeur,
its grace in flight,
Its size and magnificent power.
When in flight it stirs the
soul to true liberty.
He can use his mighty wings
to carry other eagles to safety.
Turbulence makes him stronger
he flies higher and faster.
The eagle's keen eyesight gives him
a sense of approaching danger
to protect himself and his family.
"The Eagle displays the sense of responsibility
that is a companion to true liberty."
"He takes an active role in providing
for his family and he teaches his young to fly."
Jesus Christ emulates this and much more
He came to bring the life, victory, power, and freedom
to those of us who place our faith in Him.

When the cat imitates
people and put on shoes,
there is a house party
Mr Puss in Boots emulates ...
When the cat plays
with skeins of wool,
makes a pretty mess
at grandma's school ...
When the meek cat
takes all his milk,
pleases his owner Beth
delights his owner Mr. Rilke ...
This innocent cat,
don't eat chocolate
and don't bark either ...
Do not eat nougat,
but loves to eat fish ,,,!
It's cute, so cute, it's cute
so fluffy this cat ,,,!

What kind of sadistic delirium dwells in an
obtuse parent whose child emulates their
behavior in showing it is okay to bully other
children whose only egregious fault is shyness?
Bullied and tormented and teased to tears,
emotional scars that will last for years in
self flagellating inferiority and a sense of
worthlessness a delicate child withholds.
Indigent children may be bullied to the point
of contemplating suicide. Or worse yet become
a bully themselves. To consecrate such actions
of their child, who so berates another, makes the
parent even more responsible than their child.
Principals who mediate are in a quandary of
showing impartiality yet fairness, awakening
every sense to protect the bullied child.
Insightful teachers are becoming more aware
as they try to teach these bullies to have respect.
I've seen that child who cries, but fears to tell.

Fields of Gold
God's endless skies golden field
Emulates of pasture of golden yields, fields
On ward and all over
Over and everywhere
On ward and all over
Over and everywhere
there are fields of gold
And there are stories told
And there are hero's bold
these are fields of gold, glistering
Shimmering views of yellow
These are fields of gold, these are fields of gold
Golden yellows, autumn leaves
There are fields of gold for me
There are field of plenty
Much more for me, there are field of gold
There are fields of gold to reap I'm told
These are fields of gold for me
The treasures are mind to mine
God has even given all things
As I stand in line to find
These things the field of gold for me
There are fields of gold for me
On ward and over
Over and everywhere
On ward and all over
There are fields of gold

The dead of children's eyes burn through the soul,
their hunger tears the heart from its cavity.
Cheeks sunken as skin hangs from the bone,
their out stretched arms crying for deliverance.
You would weep, if not for your crusted sockets,
for moisture is a cherished commodity.
From opulence and prosperity, we are left to scavenge
barren fields for spoiled fruit and wilted leaves.
These few morsels are to be our only subsistence.
This crash has laid waste to our destitution.
Each day emulates the last,
as do the cars rumbling along the rails
past this desolate hovel town.
