Diminished by age, a weathered existence limps
Crutching dimmed vision and impaired limbs,
Much wiser that before, it speaks wisdom words
Entertaining grandkids in stories that enlighten,

Wishing the time to destiny would stop rushing
Reminiscing adoringly in yesteryears’ springs
As exuberance of yore in travails of life recedes,

Recalling seasons pristine, ravishing, blossoming
When youth ruled meadows of blazing revelry,
Reckoning lately though, how summer parches lilies
And winter freezes perishing autumnal leaves,

Unsure whether sunlit-dawn tomorrow brings,
If life’s graying themes can still invoke dreams~
As blunt reality confronts passions embellished.

Yet, life emulates pride of battered old oak tree
Mangled and broken, withering in gusty winds
But, standing steadfastly aiming for centuries
Rejoicing birds frolicking, concert of hatchlings,

And it too sways merrily ignoring bleak warnings
Beckoning alluringly reluctant, fading feelings
To tango in ballroom of life for yet one more spin,

Conjuring ancient images of renaissance in Italy~
The Colosseum, statues, galleries full of paintings
Pulsating forever, beyond bounds of mortality
Weathered, yet standing, as battered old oak tree
And aged-existence that defiantly keeps ticking.

Happy Father’s Day to my Late Son Rob

My son, my sweet son, you now are at rest.
Of all fathers my son, you were the best!
Your son emulates you the best he can.
You taught him how to become a great man.

Almost twenty years you shared with your wife,
With family love you lived a great life.
Organs you donate will help others live,
A legacy you unselfishly give.

I am proud of you son, as you take part,
Some fortunate soul will live with your heart.
You tried to live and put up a great fight.
As you depart and go into the light,

Your sisters will miss you, you helped each one.
You were a great brother, my precious son.
You were only with us forty four years.
You’ll be remembered with love not our tears.

June 1, 2021

I wish all you Father’s a very Happy Father’s Day!

*This poem was written for my late son Rob who
had a severe stroke and was pronounced brain dead on
May 29, 2021. He saved over 6 lives by donating his
organs. Rob leaves behind my eleven year old grandson
Brody, and his wife Akiko. I want to thank each of you
who prayed for my son to recover. Thank you all for your
kind condolences. The love sent from my poetic family has
helped me greatly.

Premium Member Coconut Scented Dreams

Luxuriant black hair
Trails your naked body
Soothing all those places
Seared by my burning lips

Waves of silky curls
Cascade over you
Following the rise and fall
Flirting with your fingers
Inviting gentle tugs

Midnight strands curtain your face
As your body emulates
The motion of lips and tongue
A black waterfall of ecstasy

Coconut scented dreams
Of long wavy black hair
Keep a smile there on your face
Until I’m again in your arms

Premium Member The Eagle In Jesus

By Dawne Zacharias

This bird is admired for its grandeur,
 its grace in flight,
Its size and magnificent power.
When in flight it stirs the
 soul to true liberty.
He can use his mighty wings
to carry other eagles to safety.
Turbulence makes him stronger
 he flies higher and faster.
The eagle's keen eyesight gives him
 a sense of approaching danger
to protect himself and his family.
"The Eagle displays the sense of responsibility
that is a companion to true liberty."
"He takes an active role in providing
for his family and he teaches his young to fly."
Jesus Christ emulates this and much more
He came to bring the life, victory, power, and freedom
to those of us who place our faith in Him.

Hope

Desire of the flesh
The need of closeness
Sensing the goodness
Of engulfing hope
That emulates there

Hope an ideal
Inspiration
Of mind and soul
Needing you near

The touch says
Here is love
Love brings hope

Give thanks
Kneel, pray

Great Majestic Ball

It's the evening of the year
The great majestic ball.
I go along trembling with fear
No one will ask me to dance at all.

The lights are blazing above
The musicians strike up their chords
In the eyes of some, shows expectant love,
In others, time they can ill afford.

The dance floor is polished to the hilt
So the dancers can glide with ease.
Some Scottish laddies dressed in highland kilt
Serving wine and nibbles which will please.

I sit amongst the ladies and their idle chatter
The lights catching a glint of tiara-erred heads
Note book clenched between sweating palms
Dance spaces at the ready for any suitor to read

A minuet is played, the ladies hold their partners hands
Just a light touch from glove to glove
The soft music emulates a wonderful sound,
Stirring a thought or two towards love

Back to my chair he gallantly leads me
Bowing slightly as he helped me to sit
Would you do me the honour, he asks,
Let me fill in the vacant spaces in your list.

I sit there dreamily thinking of what this might bring
Is this the man to fulfil my needs.
I then wake up with a start, as the kettle sings,
To face my hungry family which I need to feed.

Premium Member Distant Thoughts

Would You rather I be in church today
Or enjoying the enchantment of Your creation
Mesmerized, I inhale nature’s fragrance

Bible on my lap, open to Psalm 19:1
As the shy, golden Thrush
Emulates a chorister
Declaring the work of Your hands

His flutelike voice resonates
Bestowing music through the forest

Here I feel closer to You, Lord
Than I do within brick walls
Your majesty surrounds me

Accept my prayer of gratitude
For the splendor of Your gift
Life in every plant, every creature
I linger here for hours

The Cat

When the cat imitates
                  people and put on shoes,
                  there is a house party
Mr Puss in Boots emulates ...

                  When the cat plays
                  with skeins of wool,
                  makes a pretty mess
                  at grandma's school ...

                  When the meek cat
                   takes all his milk,
                   pleases his owner Beth
delights his owner Mr. Rilke ...

                   This innocent cat,
                   don't eat chocolate
                   and don't bark either ...
                   Do not eat nougat,
but loves to eat fish ,,,!

It's cute, so cute, it's cute
                  so fluffy this cat ,,,!

Premium Member A Flicker of Hope

Floating in the sanctity of a tiny tranquil sea,
hidden from the world by only a fragile wall,
unaware of the uncertainty of their own mortal future.

Wide innocent eyes blinded by a bright light,
unable to see the evils and prejudices of mankind
and the society that emulates his selfish nature.

Virgin ears silenced by their own innocence,
unable to hear the chorus of suffering
mankind has brought to bear on himself.

The sound of salvation beats within a tiny sea
while the impatient fingers of death linger outside
waiting for a chance to plunge in and stop the beat.

Each time Satan's hand swipes by the virgin soul
dangling helplessly from life's frail thread
mankind's last flame of hope begins to flicker.

Shall a world chorus of cries ring in their births,
or shall a soul numbing silence fill our vacant hearts?

Premium Member Bullies

What kind of sadistic delirium dwells in an
obtuse parent whose child emulates their
behavior in showing it is okay to bully other
children whose only egregious fault is shyness?

Bullied and tormented and teased to tears,
emotional scars that will last for years in
self flagellating inferiority and a sense of
worthlessness a delicate child withholds.

Indigent children may be bullied to the point
of contemplating suicide. Or worse yet become
a bully themselves. To consecrate such actions
of their child, who so berates another, makes the
parent even more responsible than their child.

Principals who mediate are in a quandary of
showing impartiality yet fairness, awakening
every sense to protect the bullied child.
Insightful teachers are becoming more aware
as they try to teach these bullies to have respect.
I've seen that child who cries, but fears to tell.

Gold Star

Sometimes I sit and ponder
what it may be like
to have parents, not always
looking for a petty fight
the love you feel, always
being there for you
day o' night

I wake up fighting a
constant battle,
I feel like I am in a circus
having to jump through hoops
my parents hold
to earn their admiration and
approval

Earning their gold star
for the day
I was a rebel since day one
not trying to conform
dancing to the beat of a
different drummer

Wishing to be accepted
for who I want to be
and how I seek to spend my hours
nothing I ever do, seems to be good
enough

They talk about "emotional deposits"
i.e. spending time with them
but they spend too much time
picking and proving
reacting wrong, saying ignorant assumptions
they push me away, each day
'further and further I go
as soon as I make enough money
I'm gone

They act as if my artistic mind
couldn't make money
like my dreams are distant relatives
of which I will never meet
but I strive to prove them wrong

Its bad enough being
one person versus the world
but when the army you fight
is led by your family, your blood
it's twice as hard to get up
in the morning, when the suns
rays dance on my closed
eyelids

I try my best to be the kind
of person I want to be
despite their efforts to kill off
my individualistic soul
I have given up trying
to belong to which I
was born unto
I'm simply playing the game

Hoping to win, one day
the chance to be myself
as I feel emulates me,
and regardless
have a proud
Mommy and Daddy
I do pray, I shall be
 free to be

Dare To Be Yourself

We must live and learn to be that one person God intended for us to be,
Not someone from a fairy tale or childish made up fantasy.
Dare to be yourself, but do it in a Godly way,
Always seek the truth, and never be ashamed to pray!

Never get so big that you can’t help the lesser man,
Nor never turn away someone who offers up a much needed helping hand.
Take each day for what it’s worth, and make it your very best,
Learn to love the simple things, you will find life is much less stressed.

You never know who watches you or emulates your ways,
So especially, around little ones, watch those things you do and say.
Set your bar as high as you can, but know when you reach the top,
Then you will be satisfied when you know it’s time to stop.

Fire Down Below - Haiku Contest

Sky is burning red
Looks like heaven is on fire….
Clouds like puffs of steam

Sky reaches to earth…
As the red glow emulates
Through fiery trees

Nature at it’s best
Vibrant picture pains the eyes…
Scene like burning hell
