we have been asked to police
contest entries for plagiarism
relying on unproven software
sponsors are expected to comply
to make judging somewhat fair

perhaps we need to introspect
why are contests floated at all
is it not to cajole poets to connect
sharing hearts musings intimate
that all be in their ink bliss flecked

is our story merely borrowed glory
how low has fallen our self-esteem
let’s be authentic, honest and bold
we each are unique in our own way
effuse soul’s emotes in hues of gold

Premium Member Look Not At Form

Look not at form but soul within
All that is, is God’s light
Cave of heart’s open, go therein
Feel heightened bliss delight

Know there is no ‘other’
Each soul is our brother
Blessed by Divine Mother

Effuse love warm
Look not at form

Premium Member Trust and Betrayal

" ...betrayal begins with trust."
                  ~ Quote_ Phish

Our trust presupposes expectation,
based on a script, being but delusion,
which is the root cause of our frustration;
betrayal plunging mind in confusion.

Love that’s true seeks no reciprocation
and so the fault line is egoic longing,
which over time becomes our fixation;
seeking somehow a sense of belonging.

If we accept all beings as they are,
recognising we’re but actors on stage,
we’ll always shine like a luminous star,
radiating bliss like a tranquil sage.

Let not betrayal, diminish souls light ~
May we effuse love by day and by night

Drawn into a war that was not our choice,
we’re compelled to play the cards as they fall,
for although we wish all speak in one voice,
if swords need to be drawn as of fate's call,
aligned with righteousness, we must stand tall.
Thus playing out our life role, as ordained,
following path of truth, our soul's unstained
but we yet wish it did not come to this,
since love in our heart is deeply ingrained,
thus in midst of battle, we effuse bliss.

Apathy’s paralyzation,
Iridescent indignation,
Steely eyed, grim concentration,
Ebullient, effuse elation,
Scheming klepto pilferation,
And dysphoric ideation
Drugs for every situation
Prescription proliferation
Pharmacological nation
Where’s my pills? Where in tarnation?

Ode To Ac

A breeze is nice, but my advice
When temperatures are soaring
Is get inside where you can hide
And cooler air is pouring.

I guarantee that with A/C
Your mood will be improving
And you can do the normal things
Like standing up and moving.

For when I get a coat of sweat
I’m cranky and I’m sluggish.
An A/C blast will get me past
To where I’m almost smuggish.

When people name what they acclaim’s
The number one invention,
It’s cars or planes or P.C. brains
But what they rarely mention

Is B.T.U.’s, so I’ll effuse
On how they help with cooling.
Without A/C, well, woe is me!
(And really, I’m not fooling!)

Links

In a box in the closet,
Beneath lots of shoes,
Was a bundle of greeting cards;
All did effuse

With good wishes, congrats
And excitement galore
For the birth of a baby
A short time before.

I read every card;
Some had names I don’t know
For they all had been written
A long time ago.

That baby, my son,
Now has kids of his own.
At 38 years,
He’s officially grown.

No need to hold on
To these links to the past.
I took a deep breath
And I ditched them at last.

Emerald

May a month when trees display their many tones and hues
Adorned in their best all new and fresh; trees dressed to impress
Cloaked in many shades of green like emerald, lime or chartreuse
May a month when trees display their many tones and hues
So many shades of green are seen of emerald I effuse
Vivid like the precious stone emerald green can stand alone
May a month when trees display their many tones and hues
Adorned in their best all new and fresh; trees dressed to impress

HONORABLE MENTION

Oh Little Meadow Pipit

Oh little Meadow Pipit
So sweetly do you sing,
Unbridled joy and happiness
Effuse your warbling.

High above the moor you dance
Rapturous in flight,
Oh little Meadow Pipit
How you so delight.

To listen to your joyous song
Just fills my heart with glee.
Oh little Meadow Pipit,
Please sing once more for me.

Sleep.. indigo’s eyes, night loving allies,
Sol’s flare is stars' disguise dawn till dusk’s reprise,
peach awe-inspired skies effuse juice sunrise,
east, grapefruit pink lies - lemon slice rhapsodize.
Pastel wash replies to Zephyrus sighs,
morning glory highs yield to afternoon’s surprise..

wings golden butterfly's, squires sun clockwise,
ruddy west implies cocktail hour’s devise,
sunlight’s demise creeps in blueberry dyes,
plum, mango fraternize as prim-rose chastise.
Sunset complies sending signal-light fireflies,
Wake! indigo’s eyes, night loving allies,
tantalize poets to romanticize.

Ted Cruz

All today I had the blues
Because I listened to the news,
Learning Iowans did choose
Not Trump or Rubio, but Cruz.

This candidate does not amuse.
His cockiness just seems to ooze
From all his pores and in reviews,
His own Grand Party can’t enthuse.

It seems he likes to put the screws
On fellow pols, who can’t excuse
The vitriol he likes to use
When his agenda he pursues.

In the end, I must effuse –
Oh, Mr. Cruz, I hope you lose!

Rager

The contradiction of the rager
So youthfully endowed with unpleasantries
Of a child-man high in cumulus clouds
Stratospheres of anger that rain
Down like spoiled fruit
Falling from the rotten vine
Futures of grandeur, illusions of manhood
Snuffed out by his own created prison
Keep on poor unloved wretch
Held too little in drunken mothers’ bosom
Does this pain, the soulful pain, so selfish
Have bad dreams, can’t walk away
From a life being destroyed
While looked upon by passer-byes
In awe of intelligible language
Lack of tangible mind
Showing deep-seeded ignorance
God’s forgotten creature
Does man, woman or angels cry
For such a broken psyche
We coax you to depart
Back to the toxic womb you were bore
I effuse my delicate sensibilities
With my ears shattered by the jagged
Plaintive noise that I can bear no more

Ocultus Destinee

OCULDESTINATE
The esoteric cabal
A sinister secret
To illuminate or to fall
Effuse the real or the counterfeit
To notice it at all
Illusory uncloaked
UNVEIL
DISSEMBLEVile concealment
Conspirators provoked
Imposters fail to ressemble
False pretense fall flagrant
Historical hoax
Macabre Jokes

Larry

For years, we went for Chinese food
Most every Friday night;
Our sons, best friends both then and now,
Made sure that we’d unite.

But conversation always flowed
For Larry kept things fresh,
Ensuring that both kids’ and grown-ups’
Talk was sure to mesh.

From sports to work to politics,
The theater or the news,
His love of life from all his pores
Did readily effuse.

A diehard baseball lover
And an athlete from his youth,
A highlight of his childhood was
A catch with – yes, Babe Ruth!

His patients and his softball league
And friends kept life exciting,
But Larry couldn’t rest until
He’d published all his writing.

Just Stories is his legacy,
Of which he was so proud
And if you’d read a tale or two,
I’m sure that you’d be wowed.

Though Larry fought the bravest fight,
No matter what the cost,
The cancer finally had its way
And sadly, Larry lost.

I’ll not forget this gentle soul,
A caring, special friend,
Who brightened everybody’s days
Until the very end.

Remediated Discourse

If all writing is, indeed, a mere ruse,
Why do I need an inspirational muse,
or editor my syntax to masseuse
Mind's eye is vapid and obtuse;
My brain is calling an immediate truce
Inane pretenses no longer refuse,
and with sixth sense consciously fuse
Mundane fare is now abstruse;
Morose wit critics dare not abuse,
or for lack of purpose, design accuse
Metaphors, metonymies tightly noose;
Colloquial sayings, truisms freely infuse
Slang terms, archaic words out of use,
In remediated discourse common, diffuse
Choppy meter, bland rhyme schemes choose;
No rhythmic patterns, contrived forms to confuse
Do not need with limericks, riddles to bemuse;
Trite puns, silly jabs will laughter's tonic effuse
