Ode To Ac

A breeze is nice, but my advice When temperatures are soaring Is get inside where you can hide And cooler air is pouring. I guarantee that with A/C Your mood will be improving And you can do the normal things Like standing up and moving. For when I get a coat of sweat I’m cranky and I’m sluggish. An A/C blast will get me past To where I’m almost smuggish. When people name what they acclaim’s The number one invention, It’s cars or planes or P.C. brains But what they rarely mention Is B.T.U.’s, so I’ll effuse On how they help with cooling. Without A/C, well, woe is me! (And really, I’m not fooling!)

It's better to have A/C and not need it, than to need it and not have it! You nailed this one, great rhymes and I love the word 'smuggish'.

I don't have A/C this year, just a 3-speed fan which serves me and my dog just fine. Happily I don't have a problem with excessive heat; the dog does. So I treat him to an ice cube and he's happy. / M

I do recall the humidity in Manhattan in June, so your well-written verses are not lost on me! My late wife would not hesitate to risk Legionnaire's Disease rather than wilt in heat, knowing most people do not monitor their A/C unit. Just imagine how many people would live in the South West today without air-conditioning! Another great write! Aloha! Rico

Exquisitely written, Ilene! I know the benefits of an AC when temperatures soar to ridiculous heights! Unfortunately they tend to make my eyes stingy, so I tend to suffer the heat while others enjoy themselves:) Regards // paul

Just a brilliant ode to A/C, Ilene. Terrific. And, btw, couldn't agree with you more. I have some family kerfuffles on this issue sometime, with fresh air fanatics... Hope Henry's in sync with you, is all I can say!! Cheers, Gershon, and stay cool!
