Cat Bugs

This house has ghost cats.
Visitors twitch
as invisible whiskers brush their cheeks.

I talk faster; try to distract them,
or look out the window
as if seeing something really interesting.

Guests don't come around much anymore.

Maybe they think I have cat-bugs?

At night I imagine letting the cats out,
sense disdainfully stiff tails
tickling bare ankles in house slippers.

All the dead cats are allergic to me,
but they favor this house,
it reminds them of the old cat-lady
who used to live here,

she was well known to be
allergic
to pretty much everyone also.

MANHOOD V WOMANHOOD

MANHOOD V WOMANHOOD

I use my favourite chat-up line as I join her at the bar,
”What’s a girl like you doing without a man like me?”
She raises her eyes disdainfully, “That’s the worst I’ve heard by far.”
And when I think about it, I really have to agree.

Next, she questions my manhood. I tell her, “My eyes are up here.”
“I see your eyes,” she counters. But where do you keep your brain?”
By now the alarm bells are ringing; She’s outwitting me I fear.
So I’ll think of another chat-up line and come back in again

When some men of faith brought a paralytic to be healed,
Opening the roof when they placed his bed before Jesus
When the forgiving grace of the almighty was revealed
The fault-finders placed before him, their malicious thesis

Could eyes filled with coal dust find an unknown way easily?
The dusk of ignorance blocked them from recognizing him.
Aren't these, more than the one who's healed, paralyzed mentally?
Hope of healing them, like straightening a dog's tail, seemed grim.

The healed, bloomed with joy, like a sunflower before the sun.
Pessimism paralyses physique and psyche painfully.
Is, with no flow of fresh streams of optimism, laurels won?
The Pharisees, like desert daisies, dried disdainfully.

When praises of the people of faith, like incense, ascended
The Kingdom of God, like a sublime universe, descended

Un-Feathered Nests

The geese have migrated
taking many songbirds with them.

Some Canada Geese
have chosen to stay in the parking lots
by the busy shops, ensconced
within their un-feathered nests.

All day they direct the traffic,
attack cars if they come too near.

Night and day we Ohioans
try to ignore them,
but the geese
have fluffed up their goosy egos,
and will bar the way
of weary travelers
until they choose to waddle
disdainfully away.
Honk at them
and they honk back.

In Florida the songbirds
party-on
giving not a thought
to the still migrating,
still honking.

Premium MemberI Bred a Rose

I bred a rose of color rare
And gave it to my lady fair.
She looked at it disdainfully
Then, laughing, tossed it back to me.
No man, she said, her heart would hold
Lest he applied for it with gold.
That one of her high pedigree
Was not for gardeners like me.
I explained the rose for her I'd named,
But there was no swaying one so vain.

My shattered heart and I went home
And sat there in the gloom alone.
The garden that was to me so dear
I let grow desolate and bare.
Then love and roses proved to me
Their resilience and tenacity.
I woke one day in early spring
To find each blossoming again,
And in a spot where all could see
Bloomed the rose my new love bred for me.

Premium MemberHypocrites and Bullies

Hypocrites and bullies
Come in every shape and form
They don’t all live under rocks
Or openly and disdainfully scorn

Many portray themselves
As caring individuals with superior intellect
Voicing their behaviour as advice or just humour
Yet the outcome has the same damaging affect

Its unkind and unnecessary
Designed only to hurt
No matter how its decorated or delivered
It is bullying behaviour you assert

You intimidate and belittle
You are simply cruel
Just own who you are
You hateful ,hypocritical fool!

Premium MemberOnce Upon a Time

Once there was a girl, with stars and moonbeams in her eyes,
Who sat with me beneath a willow tree.
She gently held my hand,
Caressed and kissed me, and
Vowed that she was mine and loved me so.
How sweet that moment many years ago.

Once a callow boy, with fame and fortune as his prize,
Looked at her there 'neath that willow tree.
He laughed disdainfully and cried,
"Your world's too small, my scope's too wide
For you to comprehend." And he said no.
How sad that moment all those years ago.

Once upon a time, being selfish and unwise,
I had no time for love and bade it go.
But fleeting fame flew by so fast,
And fickle fortunes didn't last.
The friends and lovers I'd pursue
Were, like me, shallow and untrue.

Once there was a time my world was sweeter than I knew.
I held true love in my grasp but let it go.
How quickly, since, the years have flown,
My fortune, fame, and youth are gone,
Remorseful now, I wish in vain
That once upon a time could come again.

Premium MemberVitriol

Vile, vehement contempt
Voiced through harsh language and
Verified with mean acts;
Venom spewed freely at
Victims disdainfully;
Virulent, vicious hate
Vileness—God can cure all!

Tagore Translation: Unfit Gifts

Unfit Gifts
by Rabindranath Tagore
loose translation by Michael R. Burch

At sunrise, I cast my nets into the sea,
dredging up the strangest and most beautiful objects from the depths ...
some radiant like smiles, some glittering like tears, others flushed like brides’ cheeks.
When I returned, staggering under their weight, my love was relaxing in her garden, idly tearing leaves from flowers.
Hesitant, I placed all I had produced at her feet, silently awaiting her verdict.
She glanced down disdainfully, then pouted: "What are these bizarre things? I have no use for them!"
I bowed my head, humiliated, and thought:
"Truly, I did not contend for them; I did not purchase them in the marketplace; they are unfit gifts for her!"
That night I flung them, one by one, into the street, like refuse.
The next morning travelers came, picked them up and carted them off to exotic countries.

Premium MemberDorothy Outfoxes Pucks and Picks

Pucks and Picks two skinflints
Quietly and disdainfully blacken sequins
With their dour, disastrous ways.

Dorothy, one sequin got away.
She was the shiny blue one.
She happily quit running after realizing
How slow they were

Pucks and Picks sent the hounds to fetch her
But their skin was soaked by the time they arrived
And Dorothy was lying in the sun, laughing at them.

She had already shaped herself into a
Star, and was waiting for lightning shocks to come along
So she could be hurled into the night
where she could more readily laugh at Pucks and Picks efforts.

Five Afriku

1.
A bird on anthill
A little boy
A stone on the ground

2.
Prideful, I couldn't ask
For her name and phone number
Now she's gone, I'm regretting.

3.
In your dream
A python is chasing you,
You couldn't lift your leg?

4.
In your dream
You are falling, suddenly
You grow wings and flies away?

5.
The sun
Rising and laughing disdainfully
Forgets that somewhere dawn's waiting.

Trigger Happy

When she picked up her first gun,
she felt sheer exhilaration
When she took the first shot,
she felt supreme elation
She craved caressing the cold power
in her hand
She loved pressing the trigger
again and again
Metal ****** was better than human
Trigger happy ...
99 luft balloons
Hair trigger emotions
sing a gravedigger tune
Anger her and she will flat blast you;
try to pleasure her,
and she’ll disdainfully tell you
what her gun lover can do
Trigger happy ...
the aroma of gunsmoke
makes her smile,
and tingle inside so much
Hair trigger reactions,
911 millimeter response bolt action
Her hero lover is too hot to touch
She covets unleashing the smoking power
with either hand
She loves pressing the trigger
again and again and again

Sonnet To Our Love

The verse runs down the stream
Dolefully, paintings your
Soulfully, I’m intrigued
Severely, like my cat!

The music resonates
Painfully, story your
Disdainfully, we talk
Sinfully, like the moon!

Your love drips wet like rain
Silently, our love-making
Violently, we now stare
Intently, at each other.

Intensely, let us kiss now,
Fiercely, like the sun!

-Pin Dew (02/05/2017)

Note: Experimental Sonnet- The rhymes and para-rhymes are inside the poem, and the meter is Iambic Trimeter.

Theres a Fly In My Soup

As I sit and try to imagine,
I look and find another distraction,
find there's a fly in my poetry soup,
quite like a Michael Phelps swimming laps
around like an Olympian champion,
he must think he's pretty cool
using my bowl of soup like a swimming pool,
as I disdainfully sit here and watch him
while drinking my glass of coke,
he swims figure 8's and alternates
between freestyle and the backstroke,
once again I try to think of a poem verse
as the fly swims and winks at me, what nerve!
then he slows down and does the doggie paddle
looking like he's treading the soup waters for awhile,
finally he stops and looks mercifully at me,
and as he goes under I count to three,
the fly in my soup is finally gone,
once again I can concentrate and carry on.
