Friends come and friends go, but some stay through life’s flow
Those are the ones to keep close to your heart, it doesn’t matter how long you’re apart
It’s always the same no matter how long, you start talking through the years, life’s song
Knowing someone though and through, a shoulder to lean on, someone to talk to.
They’d drop what they’re doing to help you out, all you have to do is text ring or shout
They’d give what they have if you’re ever in need, on a different level from others a different breed
You have disagreements, discussions debates, but you never leave angry, always stay mates
A good bit of banter can lighten the mood, they don’t take offence even when it’s rude
My best mate I know will always be there, ready for action, trustworthy fair
They’ll give you a laugh on a night on the town or cheer you up when you’re feeling down

There are people with whom
One might disagree at certain levels.
The dividing levels might even be ones
Of insensitivity, discouragement,
And even hurtfulness.
Notwithstanding such disagreements,
One might yet endorse and support
Such a one on other, more vital levels.
In so doing, one should see it, not as
a conflict of interest, but rather as
a higher view of the big picture.

It had been so long since I’d felt loved and wanted.
Then I met John. We basked in our late-in-life romance.
Gone was the loneliness that had left me feeling haunted.
Our relationship proved I had been wise to take a chance.
Though somewhat set in our ways, we adjusted well,
each accommodating the other. He often mentioned how much
we were alike. We had no serious disagreements. I fell
more deeply in love with him, daily craving his touch.
A year after we met, he proposed. Of course, I said, “YES!”
We retirees in the autumn of life would be together forever
enjoying each other and family, traveling. No stress---
Then came the devastating blow. Forever became never.
He called on Christmas Day, of all times, to say he’d changed his mind.
This man who’d often mentioned how alike we were declared
that we were too different. He made no effort to be kind,
to let me down gently. I doubt he ever loved me—or even cared.
He's been a casket full of bones for for six or seven years.
When I learned of his demise, I deeply sighed but shed no tears.

I know that art’s subjective;
Everyone has different taste,
So one exhibit that I love
Might be, to you, a waste.
The same applies to music –
Some like opera, jazz or blues,
Country, rock and roll or show tunes –
What some pick, I’d never choose.
And what about vacations?
Many opt for beach or isle,
While a city with museums
Is a trip to make me smile.
Disagreements are expected
Where the government’s concerned,
But to me, what’s most upsetting
Is the lesson I have learned…
That no longer can we argue
With civility and poise.
Respect has been replaced with
Lowlife nastiness and noise.
This has come to be accepted –
Points of view can’t be discussed
And the bullies bloviate and leave us
Trampled in the dust.

All terrain passing over sand stones from a distance catering to the hillside the mountain sent down a calming coolness while the barrels of oil leaked my minds eye focused on the stone slabs beneath the mountaintop grinding as the convoy entered the hidden nooks conveyed by night hiding under day teal lavender fabric covered my being hints of dates aroused my senses while meaningful gestures crowded my space chatter invaded this telepathically disdained balance covenant by old disagreements that poured out into the caves my knees trembled as I'm being quite pampered by kings giant screems facing every direction nations gathering for a group meet up my hands are kissed peppermint teas are chills served in brass tea containers looking over the world exploding I am comforted i am safe I am kandahar

With folded hands, I ask for forgiveness,
For the things I did wrong, or you did not like,
There is nothing wrong with this realization,
It makes me strong and decisive in life.
In the daily chores, the daily grind starts with dawn,
On the way to work, infuriate many people as I try to get ahead,
Forgive me for the short-sightedness,
As everyone meets their target at their own pace.
Forgive me for not keeping in touch,
Calls not made, ignored, texts never glanced,
For losing touch in the maze of chores,
And closing half-opened emotional doors.
Forgive me for the little fights,
When little disagreements turn into major arguments,
For moments when I fail to see,
The beauty in your constancy.

Come as you are!
Bring what you like.
A childhood favorite!
What you like to make
Memories of past repasts
Share yours, come together.
Expect some chaos, banter, disagreements.
Expect polite dislikes.
Revel in serendipity.
As such, these Potluck Repasts
Delight in no fuss sharing
Spontaneous togetherness
Connecting folks to share a meal.

A gentle knock on my door,
unexpected, yet familiar.
My heart lightens.
Words flow easily,
laughter bubbles up.
Time loses meaning.
Shared silence speaks volumes,
comfortable and warm.
There's no need to pretend.
In moments of darkness,
a steady hand reaches out.
I'm not alone.
Disagreements come,
and honest words are exchanged.
We grow stronger.
Years pass like days,
distance can't separate.
Bonds deepen.
A phone call at midnight,
no explanations needed.
Understanding flows.
Celebrating victories,
however small they seem.
Joy multiplies.
Tears shed together,
burdens shared, halved.
Healing begins.
Imperfections accepted,
flaws embraced.
Unconditional support.
In a world of change,
a constant remains.
Friendship endures.
Looking in your eyes,
I see myself reflected.
Home in another soul.

I am your child
Your flesh and blood
I don't ask for much
Just your love
When I have questions
I want to come to you
And get the answers I seek
That I hope are truthful, too
There will be times when I will challenge
The authority you hold
And you will hold me accountable
For being so bold
My moods may change
From time to time
And trying to understand those phases
Will boggle your mind
The parent/child relationship
Is not always an easy thing
It takes a lot of love and patience
And of course, understanding
So, there will be disagreements
And we may not always see eye to eye
But one thing that will never change
The love between you and I

You and Me
So many vehicles
So many journeys
So many destinations
So many countries
Exploring life
Side by Side
From teenagers to parents to retirees
Copious conversations
Decisions made
Disagreements
Abundant laughter
Grief
Rivers of tears
Music throughout the decades
Silly songs sung
Coffees aplenty
So many years
Side by Side

He loved her for so long
Four decades to be precise
She was a wonderful mother
His best friend and beautiful wife
Compatible and happy
Sharing the same life goals and dreams
Excited about growing old together
The future bright it seemed
The children now grown and gone
Work life no longer did exist
This was their time
To pursue their bucket list
Retirement came with adjustments
Life and roles had changed
Bickering and disagreements followed
The relationship became strained
Distance stood between them
They grew apart
He asked her to sit down to talk one night
Into pieces he shattered her heart

Miracle Man

No matter which direction we turn our head,
Drugs and lawlessness continues it’s spread.
We vote to legalize things currently banned,
putting the illegal element in direct command.
Some try law changing when it doesn’t fit them,
and most disagreements are reason to condemn.
Social media has evolved into a coward’s tool,
we ruin social standing, and cause bullying at school.
Most morals are gone and we’re filled with hate,
if hurt, to get even, that person we invalidate.
It’s in the numbers of illegals breaching our borders,
the cost is billions as they become resource hoarders.
We’re running out of space so some sleep on he street,
causing much resentment and some will mistreat.
When they come many bring their socialist belief,
wouldn’t sealing the border bring lasting relief?

The algorithm of promises did I pour
too much emphasis, trust in other's
expectations of promises? Constantly
seeking within other's answers, hopes, and
affirmations, uncertainties, a great deal of
let downs, brokeness, disagreements, catch-22's.
Promises recycled intentions? Traumas, limitations
often glomminess, anger, emotions often displayed.
Promises you've taught me, succumbing to life's
lessons on promises, Presently promises are no
longer relevant to me and has no restraints in my
psyche and inner being.

So now a little sister
has come into James’s life
pretty little Amelia
is here to cause him strife
He loves his little sister
and is always by her side
helping his mother when he can
his heart so full of pride.
I hope their life is full of joy
and they can always be together,
like brother and sister should be there
through good and stormy weather
He will protect her, this I know
as together through life they go
disagreements not here to stay
but love for each other every day

The poems I never wrote are exquisite
Deep clear pools that reflect and reveal their readers
Nuanced and subtle, full of symbols and hidden meaning
Peeling back new layers upon each return
The poems I never wrote are bestsellers
Attenborough voiceovers and roadhouse storytellers
On bedside tables, dog-eared and marked up
The subject of disagreements over coffee house scones
The poems I never wrote are a perfect sigh
Lyrical, rolling off the tongue, effortless as breathing
Resolved with delight on the final line
Lacking nothing, possessed of no excess
The poems I never wrote are an enigma
An unanswered question desirous of much
A doorway into a new world fraught with possibility
Mysterious and unresolved, yet satisfyingly so
This is not one of those
