Subjective

I know that art’s subjective; Everyone has different taste, So one exhibit that I love Might be, to you, a waste. The same applies to music – Some like opera, jazz or blues, Country, rock and roll or show tunes – What some pick, I’d never choose. And what about vacations? Many opt for beach or isle, While a city with museums Is a trip to make me smile. Disagreements are expected Where the government’s concerned, But to me, what’s most upsetting Is the lesson I have learned… That no longer can we argue With civility and poise. Respect has been replaced with Lowlife nastiness and noise. This has come to be accepted – Points of view can’t be discussed And the bullies bloviate and leave us Trampled in the dust.

Thanks for the new word, Ilene (for me at least) – BLOVIATE. In the company of people with very strong opinions I've learned to keep my mouth shut rather than my enemies. It's not always an easy learning experience however. / Maurice

Dear Ilene, I really liked the way you capture the decline in respectful discourse, especially in today’s environment, which speaks volumes. It’s a sad truth that civility often takes a backseat to nastiness and noise. Your words are powerful and how we’ve lost the art of respectful debate. Beautifully written and deeply thought-provoking. Spring Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel

It's all a case of my way or no way, nobody it seems is allowed an opinion anymore. Tom

It's all so very sad. I post a bit of political stuff on FB and get a few really mean comments. Even though I try to be respectful of those with views opposite mine. I would never make a post about another government's leader making fun of that leader and yet I see plenty of foreigners posting mean memes of our leader. Actually as I think on it, hippies used to spit on soldiers returning from Viet Nam I guess respectfulness has always been an issue!
