Alexander Gwyn is a poet from the New Orleans area and the author of the Bend My Light trilogy.
The first collection, Bend My Light, is a twenty-three poem journey through descent, search, and arrival. The second, Bend My Light, Volume Two: Reception, is not a journey at all — it begins already in the light and asks a quieter, harder question: now that you have arrived, how do you stay? These poems are not a story but a practice. A third volume is being written now.
Both books are illustrated throughout with original expressionist artwork. The poems come first. Gwyn is dyslexic and has always thought in pictures, so each poem begins as an image in his head, and the artwork is made for the poem afterward.
Many poems on this profile include embedded videos with original illustration and music.
