Winter Tree

winter tree
scribble on paper
shattered glass
aging masterpiece
blood vessels
interrupted sleep
morning bed hair
porcelain crazing
drought dry earth
think quickly
fungal strands
frozen pond uh-oh
straw on floor
slept-in sheets
did I lock the door
letter from a pocket
can’t reach that itch
tickly cough
grandad’s skin

Children howl, like wolves and dogs,
Dumping rules, like dirt-dust logs;
The teacher's cane rarely works,
The principal flares cause smirks!

Workers stand, pandas-perplexed,
Cattle crazing next, stand vexed;
Students some; Angels! Correct,
Others: Devils! See them wrecked!

Principal-tiger hurried,
Like sheep, each teacher worried;
Each angst of future buried,
Students leap like light-bodied!

A Crack Heard Round the World

It's just a small crack
much like the one in the Old Liberty Bell
but here it is again growing,
 in the torch of Lady Liberty's hand;
like any crack first made
it tends to grow and stretch
repaired yet recurring thru time
 still inching larger and looming
over the freedom of mankind;
 if you're not careful,
if you fail to tend its needs
forget or deny its original purpose
the freedoms, justice, and liberties,
those allegiances in which you once believed
will become crazing that erodes a little more
 of unrepairable fissures that grow
fractures, breaking points that rupture and explode
 as the cleft and breach of a democracy implodes;
until the world, you well knew is unfamiliar and lost
to a common-sense America no longer knows.

Summer Lazing

I love to spend my summer days lazing
To get away from city life's crazing
Gotta get away
And have time to play
Summer nights with loved ones spent star gazing

It's important to spend some time lazing
Mother nature your gratefully praising
Sane you'll get to stay
A few days away
The benefits from it are amazing

Here I Choose To Stay

Boundless streams the river . . .

Boughs shake under tears of eden
trembles close ever shall she take

Fire on the causeway embers spark my seams
   stoking skylight's freedom
   crazing down my beams

Standing in her present hovers fill my floor
   whispers fill the garden
   breathless kneads my door

Water beads the meadow thunder rolls the one
   passion waves her fingers
   the rampart comes undone

Inscription on the window sorrow floats away
   reflection clears with the honey
   inside is where I'll stay

Boundless streams the river baby
but here I choose to stay

TOUCH

                 Touch of thy passionate lips
                 On my forehead once
                 Uttered silent syllable
                 Craving crazing desire
Heart beats made a pause: Love was sealed.

Years tilt

    Crazing appears

Age leans into the wind

My daughter whispers... 'it's time to

Retire'

Around In Circles

Around In Circles

Always knew she was amazing
To dance with her I was crazing
Round in circles we would go
And on me she really did grow
Out my poems they are phasing

James Horn

Two Yet One

Love comes from the heart
And that's where feelings start
It hurts that where apart
But I'll enjoy this pain
And I'll go insane
As long as
Our hearts
Take the same paths
Apart we're two halves
Together we're one
Together we're amazing
You warm my heart blazing
Together where crazing
But we're still together
And we'll stay as one
Until ours days are done

Premium Member Like a Farmer

Like a farmer whose furrowed fields lie pregnant
	yet parched in the sun,
I search the line that marries earth to sky
for the faintest slip of white,
A sign that moisture gathering in those depths
	might offer more than shade.

Men and equipment are still now - all the forces
	that I command.
Days filled with promise rise and fall like
	children missing their turn,
While the gesture that could free them lies camouflaged
in the crazing of the earth.

Mindful that shapes deceive and breezes die, still I grow,
no longer just a watcher of clouds.
I sing a primitive song of desire to the power that
	governs her gathering,
And open my arms to embrace an answered prayer,
	the moisture of her breath.

Brian Johnston
Blunt, South Dakota 1989

Within Sight

Sun refracts through window, raising sight
See her standing within my gazing sight

Dry timbers lay in a pile awaiting spark
Fire ignites heartfelt joy in blazing sight

Lying on our backs to enjoy each night
Watch evening’s moon, each phasing sight

Noises abound through warm walls of home
Children amassed at play, a crazing sight

A life that could only have been imagined
Started one day with an amazing sight

Carrousel At Night

Crazing clown face rises
above the four way road
chucking chunky Iron coins
down its comedic throat
roller-coaster amusement
carrousel at night
silently spinning
moving against the slight
wind, pushing everything
along its shy way

My Dark Feelings

“My dark feelings”
The darkness is magnificent,
The light is nearly drowned.
The feeling to go on in life,
before the breaking sound.
Tears always fall,
From my face,
And always there to stay,
and how hard i try to move on.
It seem to never go away,
That all it take’s four small words,
And the tears forever stain.
Laughing, crying, living, dying,
They all come with pain.
But i’ve survived it all the years gone by.
And to me it remained... the same.
In the world there is something “far” wore's,
Then what i thought was pain....
One small cold look,
One hurtful broken promise,
And the world comes crazing down.

Careless

A battered life,
The shedding of a thousand tears,
Love wasn't an option for me anymore.
The thought of suicide drove through my mind,
Crazing me to not give a care about myself,
Or how I exposed myself to all those men.

I was careless, didn't care, didn't respect them....or myself at that.

A broken dream,
The pieces of my life tossed and burned,
A doorway past a disastrous deceit.
But still for those men I stood nakedly,
They touched me in places I couldn't believe,
None of this was a nightmare but reality.

I was careless, had no regretes, and took everything for granted.

A desire for attention,
The swirling of my body onto a mans lap,
A stage for me to occupy.
I didn't want to do it, sell my body for money,
But there were two little boys counting on me,
So I did what any desperate mother would do.

I was careless, lost my pride, lost my virginity all to my prostitution and got my 2
kids taken from there only hope in life.

           CARELESS DON'T MAKE MY MISTAKE!!!!!
