Premium Member Family Tree

Art Poetry Contest.
Sponsor: Silent One

Inside of a 5x10 frame is displayed
The representation of a beautiful
Family. It is their family tree created
By Lila Anderson for a family that was
established on June 17, 1972.

The originals, or the parents, are seen
At THE TRUNK of the tree which consists
Of three main branches which have
Limbs appropriate for their family size.

The LOWEST BRANCH has no limbs. It
Represents the youngest son who
Has neither married nor fathered
Any children. JJ sits alone but has
Proven to be a most wonderful uncle.

On the NEXT BRANCH is seated a father,
CJ and a mother, KJ. CJ is the middle
child, and believing in legacy, he is seen with
3 limbs representing three boys born to them.

There are other beautiful branches
On this tree consisting of only leaves.
But there lies another OLDER BRANCH
With well designed art work representing
The oldest sibling who is divorced with
3 lovely children.

This lovely piece represents the whole
Of a family that began in Chicago, Il.,
And stands out most proudly in the
Johnson family.

Premium Member Retirement is Killing Me

I am supposed to enjoy retirement
it is killing me

I no longer have the stress of freeway driving
so I am not intensely enraged two hours a day
that’s better

my life consists of sitting here, there, and over there
my recliner, couch, bed,
If I could I would hop up on that dresser

when it fell over on top of me it might hurt
it might even kill me
but at least I would remember that I am alive

Premium Member Divine Pleasure

Seeing through emotions
And letting go of them all slowly one by one

Pain, happiness
Part of a life journey wholesome
Deftness

Enjoy
Dusted and done

Boy

A Single Nonet on the theme of a hobby, a love or something you dislike Poetry Contest
Tania Kitchin

My pastime consists of playing cards
I'm on deck with Hearts, Spades and Gin
But my ship sails with poker
For fifty years, I played
From school days to now
I've had a hand
A steel face
A seat
Saved

Premium Member After the End

a Rhyming Alliterisan poem

Truth is often told a lie,
weary minds don’t question why~
day in, day out life is fraught
with trouble that teaches naught
but to avoid angry mobs,
sneakily they carry stobs
usually to bash brains!

Premium Member Soaking Spring Rain

a Rhyming Alliterisan poem

A slick, soaking spring rain stops
picnic plans and closes shops
in the valley and village
as river’s runoff spillage
inundates us inside-out,
overflowing all our spouts~
until sun breaks wide the sky.

Premium Member The need to do things escapes me

The need to do things escapes me
However, there are things that must be done
I have eliminated dishwashing
Well not entirely
Just wash the one plate and fork
After every meal
Cooking has been modified
Can opener and/or microwave
I only vacuum when the cat complains
The dust “kittens” look like large mice
Fashion wise I have a rotating sequence
Flannel shirts, pants when required,
A sketchy seven o-clock shadow beard
Exercise primarily consists of
Picking up items I have dropped
For mental stimulation
I lose arguments with inanimate objects
And battle with AI “customer service” bots
For excitement I sit by the tracks
Waiting for a train to stir up a poem

vice and corruption

what is the public business of this country?
is it not the private business of each citizen?
Why forbid our civil liberties when we exercise
them as long as they don’t bother anyone?

Nowadays if your ship comes in it is docked
by the government. Its my opinion the main
vice many of us have consists, not in doing evil
but in permitting it.

We are no longer the ones who chose our
politicians. The rich have bought and
paid for them. May Heaven protect our citizens
if we do nothing about saving our constitution

Premium Member A Christmas Table Spread

A Christmas Table Spread

The table spread appears Christmassy
I’ve been working tirelessly, busy as a bee
My market list consists of garlic garlands and saffron
Other wild spices and cream for flan
Alaskan salmon, cranberry for ruby glaze
Fried zucchini and tangerine yams ablaze.
We start with specialty coffee and warm pineapple tamale’s
Displayed are red berries and shiny evergreen-leaf holly’s
Silver bells, gifts and holiday cards,
lit candles and gold ribbon by the yards.
Soon we’ll gather with our family and friends
And if necessary, we’ll make amends
Although it’s not a white Christmas
I know it’s genuinely spirited alas—
when the children laugh and run
I did the math, we’re all just having fun.

Wishing all…
Christmas Cheers and Happy New Year!

Premium Member Why Worry

a luc bat*

The Earth will still spin, might
not, why worry? I might not care.
You tell me I should share
the story of his fair weather
heart as if ‘twere pleather
for your gossip-starved sterling X-
followers and bowflex
lovers who become texting whores,
the kind the world deplores.

*The luc bat is a Vietnamese poetic form that means "six-eight." In fact, the poem consists of alternating lines of six and eight syllables. This poem is interesting in its rhyme scheme that renews at the end of every eight-syllable line and rhymes on the sixth syllable of both lines. Luc bat poems have no set length or subject matter. Rhyme scheme: xxxxxA/xxxxxAxB/xxxxxB/xxxxxBxC/xxxxxC/xxxxxCxD/xxxxxD/xxxxxDxE and so on.

Premium Member but for now your smile

an Oviellejo*

A quiet explosion of joy today
a bursting bouquet,
your old smile a comforting reminder
of a much kinder
time when life was just beginning to bloom;
ingenuous loom
just beginning to weave life’s droll costume,
the facade we learn to wear as disguise,
but for now your smile is a nice surprise ~
a bursting bouquet of a much kinder ingenious loom.

*An Old Spanish verse form (derived from ovillo, a ball of yarn). A stanza consists of 10 lines, with a rhyme scheme of AABBCCCDDC. The second line of each rhyme scheme, Line 2,4,6, is short line up to 5 syllables. The last line is a "redondilla," a "little round" that collects all three of the short lines.

Premium Member - Is The Soup Expired On The Date? -

How to deepen the soup flavor
I feel as something is missing, frustrating
In the last year, tastes have changed
The power forms the basis of the soup itself
Maybe onions or mushrooms aren't your favourites
Sprinkle a little salt and pepper
taste or smell can actually catch the soup's interest
As pirouettes upward in the uvula
The best thing regarding the soup
is that it consists of different ingredients
Which gives a balanced blend of delicious taste to the mouth

Radio Killed the Vaudeville Stars

You had to be there. Literally, there.
Just hearing it removes the third dimension.
Necessity's the mother of invention?
Idea-whose-time-has-come must be the père.
But how can you replace the footlights' glare,
the acrobats' contrived, but visceral, tension?
You can't. So much is lost in a mere mention,
that wings its way to us through colourless air.

They once were princes. Now reduced to strugglers.
What use is wireless to ventriloquists?
Where did their future go? There are no answers.
The dole can never compensate the jugglers,
or anyone whose acumen consists
in sleight of hand - snake charmers or tap dancers.

A Voiceless Flower

The twist of a tongue
The hiss of a word
The end of a sentence
The start of a chirp

Saying nothing means everything
Saying everything means nothing
A language consists of words
Words give the voiceless a voice
To speak their mind and not hold their tongue
And let their inner beauty show

Speaking is an art only a few understand
To hold the attention of a room
To sway an audience
To charm a lover

There are many ways to convey a thought
There are many languages one can speak
Each with their own weight and significance
All are unique
An endless cycle from beginning to end
That is what a voice brings

A thought sprouts
You water it with curiosity and doubt
An idea nourishes it
And it blooms when you speak it
It withers through rejection
And dies due to shame
That is what a voice brings
That is what language contains

A field of withered flowers
That once held beauty
A field of ideas that were once valid
A field of voices becoming voiceless
The speakers finally becoming speechless
