Monuments went up commemorating the end of World War II
It wasn't so long ago in Europe, their scars still show ~
A long and vicious war with horrific consequences
So much to rebuild but it was the dawn of a new day
Surely mankind had learned its lessons

A dealer of drugs
With immense wealth
Was chosen as president
Of a meeting
commemorating the foundation day
Of a local club
by its office bearers.
As the meeting concluded
He announced a donation
Of rupees ten thousand
In cash to the club.
The audience
Erupted in applause.
The poem based on a local TV Disscussion Prgramme.
The whole of Eastern Samar
Is commemorating its historic
Battle joined by local patriots
Of Balangiga and neighboring towns
On September 28 1901, the only battle won
By fighting Filipinos against the Americans
That we call now the Balangiga Encounter of1901
This heroic act in that part of Samar
Placed the Balangiganons and the Waray townspeople
In the realm of historic significance
All for independence and democracy
The final return of the Balangiga Bells
Brought in a global laurel to this very remote town
That has now stood more prouder yet humble
For the ultimate sacrifice by their forebears
For love of country and people.
Absent from the body
against oxygen-gasping
Dad entered his
Father's house
of "many mansions..."*
Today, we gather
as his fruits with gratitude
commemorating Father's Day
in this once empty room
that reverberates his legacy.
*John 14:1-2 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

If only you knew the feel of a zephyr,
With its current swooping around hillsides
Ruffling the spruce trees everywhere,
Or descend downwards towards verdant vales
Where flowers bloom all through the year.
If only you knew what the oceans utter
As wonderful waves smash into each other,
Or roll nonchalantly towards the bays,
Destroying sand castles or wiping up
The poor love letters which were written there.
If only you knew the various sounds of Earth,
The laughter of little children playing in our parks,
The parade of grown-ups commemorating feasts,
The sounds of aeroplanes fighting for supremacy,
Whilst on the ground tanks rumble on firing at will.
If only you knew the evil concocted by selfish persons,
Where kindness seems to be at a premium.
Yet I discern others who are compassionate
And help others less fortunate than themselves.
How grateful receivers of good works will be.
If only you knew how many angels fly above
Around the silver stars that orbit in perfect harmony.
Angels that care for this poor land which
We have ruined successfully through our unwanted trash.
While food is thrown away when others die in famine and pain.

We search not the living among the dead
The wine that is His blood and His flesh that is the bread
We partake with His Word and in joyous psalms
Commemorating His death till He comes
That the slain Son of God rose
Having purged us of our sins and woes
We search not the living among the dead
We search not hope in the things we dread
For a wiser and better one than Solomon and Moses
And a greater one than reason and fathom poses
Did the never before done and never after to be repeated
And is now on the right hand of the Father seated
We search not the living among the dead
Who only bruised a heel from crushing the serpent’s head
Claiming back for us earthly dominion
And restoring to us the Father’s communion
Praised be Christ from generation to generation
Not just in mention but in adoration and veneration

Pink rose, plucked from its garden of sweet earth,
laid fondly on her grave to venerate
a woman of inestimable worth
on this, her day of birth I celebrate -
one rose to join the rose who gave me birth.

A Twilight ends the sweltering day with a dusky simmer
American liberty, is what we're commemorating
Firecrackers burst above us, romantic, lights that shimmer
Under a lit sky we stand, with family celebrating
Unfurl a majestic star spangled sky,
ignited with patriotic pride;
commemorating each 4th of July,
our founders vision, we strive to abide.

Snowflakes taking rebirths; transforming into flimsy shapes,
Melting then, commemorating momentary landscapes...
Flying high; skating, skiing, tough throw of stony snowballs;
One never gets hurt, yet, as though bathing in feather-falls...
Inner warmth and outer chill; frozen nights and melting days,
Costume changing nature's tentative transfiguring ways...
Surprise-filled advent of friends, like whimsical rain-drizzles,
Snow bunting, geese, waxwing, grosbeak and owls play in mizzles...
Midst shorter days and longer nights, indoor games go endless,
Though trees and plants stop growing, vegetables fill countless...
Flocks of migratory birds flying like floral designs,
Snow foxes and hares fashion-parading in rare sun-shines...
Each scene of winter is, indeed, like heavenly wonder,
Missing these might be the most monstrous of human blunder...!
