Pink rose, plucked from its garden of sweet earth,
laid fondly on her grave to venerate
a woman of inestimable worth
on this, her day of birth I celebrate -
one rose to join the rose who gave me birth.

[Sicilian Quintain]

A pink rose signifies gratitude, admiration, and appreciation,
commemorating grace, joy, and sweetness -
3 traits of my beloved mother, Elizabeth Watt
born Sep 14th, 1919, died Apr 2nd, 2017

Hi John, I am definitely losing it! I thought for sure I had commented and congratulated you on your win! What a beautiful tribute to your mom. I will never look at a pink rose in the same way again. This is out of the park, over the parking lot and nothing but net! Congratulations on your win. Sending you many blessings R&R bro!

Such a sweet tribute to your mother, dear John ! Can I conclude that all great mothers are born in the month of September. My mother's birthday on Sep.8th coincides with the birthday of Mother Mary....... John, your mother was born on 14th September and Kim Rodrigue's mother on 15th September :)

You are so kind to say so, Michelle. I never knew anyone who didn't like my mother. She was so kind and generous with her time, and was a wonderful listener. We had many long conversations into the wee hours.

Such touching words John. Your touching Poetry brought me back in reading to Connie. Wow! I don't think this was merely coincidence John. God works in mysterious ways and he uses us for his cause. This is ironic for she was like you said earlier in your comment to Connie's tribute she was a rose. How Special is this John? I got goose bumps in reading. It was almost as if you wrote this for her. Anyone reading this would think so. What are the odds of this John? This is surreal to see John. WOW.

Michael, thank you for your generous words of encouragement and support. When I wrote this I was focusing on my mother and the special relationship we were gifted with. She was a teacher and was the first to encourage me to write. I still own the thesaurus and rhyming dictionary she gave me when I was 15... they are precious mementos of her giving nature. But yes, now this poem also belongs to the remembrance of Connie who passed away the same day I wrote it. No coincidence, I am sure.

Dear John your mother must have been a wonderful mother to possessed these three wonderful traits. A lovely poetic reminder written here to express your love for your beloved mother, in this heartfelt and loving memory of her. It is sad when the ones that mean so much to us are gone. My father Rene's anniversary will be in two days ,the 16th of September. I will honor him like you have your mother. Thanks again for sharing John and your mother raised a wonderful son...
