Nuclear-Free Zone

You should know that I've
reinforced the bunker
I built around my heart
until it can withstand a
     direct hit
     ground zero
     head-on collision
from a YOU-bomb.

I've shielded it to withstand
the worst Emotional Mutilation Potential
you can generate
and to protect me from
the flash burns of passion,
Not to mention that I've lined it with lead
to save me from the fallout
of your so-called love.

So-
hit me with your worst.
My bunker--and I-- are ready.

Premium Member You Know You'Re In the Zone When:

When the poem jumps on you, wholly formed,
Needing only you to let it out.
When you lose track of what the other person's saying,
Because your inner monologue is coming together.
When you forget all else you're doing,
Because now you realize how to say it.
When traffic's so slow that you feel like screaming,
Because you want to get home and write it down.

When you take those incremental steps of becoming a writer,
-- One of them is like that first time you ride a horse,
It's big and it's powerful,
And you are ON THIS THING.
Or when your consciousness really starts smiling back at you,
Because it's gotten bigger and deeper,
Or at least now you're better at shaking hands with it,
Seeing more of what's in there,
And sometimes what's in there is laughter,
Because now you can make yourself laugh.

When that sad line pops into your head,
And you give that initial gasp or gulp or sniff,
Because you're going to start crying,
But you're in a restaurant so you try and resist it,
Make it into a cough or clear your throat,
Trying to disguise it,
And your jaws and ears hurt under the tension
Of not letting the sobs out.

The Twilight Zone

Driving along the dark deserted road,
only noise I heard was the croak of a toad,
passing on either side the silhouettes of the trees,
my window rolled down enjoying the cool autumn breeze,

Turning on my sirius radio to a brand new station,
hearing a familiar voice saying theres an invasion,
Rod Sterling comes on and tries to warn me,
too late the trees come alive and I've nowhere to flee!

Quickly getting out my husband's chainsaw from the trunk,
I finally on the third try crank it up with a little luck,
the huge alien trees surrounding me not realizing I'm American and tough,
run away like sapling sissy's to their waiting ufo's and quickly blastoff.

The rim of the basket
   as wide as the ocean
The shot leaves his hand --
   poetry in motion...

Years later his pen's on fire
   never ceasing, never tired
Poems flow out of him
   like water from a stream
   Awake all night writing
   ~ tomorrow he'll dream

Many knew my best friend,
Rod Serling.
Rod told stories back in the sixties,
or should I say a story within a story.
I was mesmerized by each story told,
Rod was filled with extra creativity.
One day I realized,
I was living in his story.
His twilight zone,
had become my world.
Now trapped,
I could not escape.
Rod and I are very happy,
we do not need to face reality.

No Lie Zone

When Putin is telling the truth
The frogs queue up at the Kissing Booth
But the Russian Bear
Growls, "You should take care!
Vlad squirts cyanide from his tooth!"

Where the river turns through mountains ravine,
The answers are found to what is serene
Where the cliffs climb up on the mountain’s side,
Water trickles down, the slate rocky slide

Faces are seen in reflections below
In the moving ripples of water’s flow
Nature’s pictures are drawn on rocks nearby
When the waterfalls choose not to be shy

The pine needles soften each step to shore
On a walk ever reaching so much more
The wildlife is busy with their play
Running around in their world for the day

This all offers the mind a home to be
Calm in its comfort zone, under a tree

HEAT ZONE

As I bask in the afternoon cool of a hot summer’s day,
With only my sarong loosely draped over me in a way,
That will prevent the scorching African sun staring at me,
And wondering how long will it be till the tantalising sea,
Beckons me to strip, and feel the salty, unruly water play,
Across my naked body, feeling each wave, caress and spray,
My limbs with the fervour of intimacy whispering with glee,
I surround you, possess you and own you, don’t ever flee!

Premium Member Welcome To the Twilight Zone

I love the sky as twilight falls
A breathtaking sight to behold
As hundreds of birds take to wing

Birds duck and dive, I hear their calls
From lilac skies now tinged with gold
Loud squawks, it's a shame they can't sing!

Beating wings, bird flight never stalls
As skies darken, night's taking hold
I don't want to miss anything

The changing sky always enthrals
I'll stay out until it gets cold
In summer, fall, winter or spring

The setting sun, seabirds in flight
I'll always marvel at this sight

Darkness Is My Comfort Zone

Forever am I heartless and darkness is my comfort zone.
Every single bond was severed now my soul is just an empty home.
You won't ever understand until you have to stand alone.
Transformation came from carnage through a process that I don't condone.
If you knew what I've endured I assure you that my mind is gone.
Every breath I take is torture in a world I feel i don't belong .
My energy a darker shade serenaded by the saddest song.
Felt my spirit fading confirmation didn't take me long.
All emotion I'm evading cause I'm jaded but my faith is strong.
Love presents a question that ive always seemed to answer wrong.

Stepping Out of My Comfort Zone

I tried doing it positive
But it gets over-looked
Show everybody respect
Stay out of people's way
Earn everybody's trust
Sway away from the stereotypes
Keep it unique but authentic
But its like running on a treadmill
Giving all my energy but not making progress
So now the world left me no choice
I want success and I deserve it
I'm tired of being the Black Sheep
So I pledge to climb the ladder
"By any means necessary"
No more sympathy
No more depression
No more excuses
No more self-doubt
No more procrastination
No more talking, just action
My methods wouldn't work
I was too comfortable
So now I step out of my comfort zone
I'm on a mission
I now embark without looking back
Code of Silence will be exercised like never before
God, watch over me 24/7
If you get sleepy
Send some Angels to cover your post

Premium Member Into the Blue

Into the blue, another new dimension;
into the blue- our destiny is Mars.
A strong reality, long-term ascension-
into the blue among the planets, stars.

Those former sci-fi program memories
   will soon become a realistic fact;
our NASA teams now speak of guarantees
that man of Earth on Mars is not abstract.

Into the blue they'll go; six months asleep,
   suspended animation all the way,
in modules filled with six and wired to keep
all fed and breathing on their space beltway.

A new frontier for earthlings to soon tool-
to Mars, perhaps a planet in that space
where not too hot- too cold will meet the rule
that Mars is in our Goldilocks Zone place.

=======================================
Note:The term "The Goldilocks Zone" is used to describe the
"habitable zone around a star when the temperature is
not too hot or too cold." Dr. Charley Lineweaver, Stuart Gary

After the Earth, Mars is the most habitable planet in our
solar system due to several reasons: Its soil contains water
to extract. It isn't too cold or too hot. There is enough
sunlight to use solar panels.

Premium Member Comfort Zone

A feeling that gets me feeling the greatest
flipping through songs that make me feel like I'm going to make it
I can sit back, chill & relate with
The sun goes up & the moon goes down
I know I have not yet reached the rooftops every day, but I'm sure not Touching the ground.
Have much to believe in, but do I believe it or not?
My mind keeps racing while my face is stuck
Then my eyes close shut
Zoning in & out of conscious
Deep thoughts on how I was born into the sickness of the world
Will I sit back & die from it or live past it?
I'm feeling it
The high I get from life
That grew into my life
Feeling like everything is alright
If I die tonight, my soul will be already dancing around the starlights
I had a cruel summer, but I'm going to enjoy my chill winter nights
Reaching new heights
The comfort is just right
My mind is in the clouds
My body has slowed down
I Lay gently into a dream & in my dream, I never wake up from my dream
Lost in it all
The sky, the galaxy & everything in-between

Stitch me back together,
whether it hurts me or not.
I still don’t know if I was
Blown up or shot.

The brain plays tricks,
maybe a bullet or
shrapnel from bricks.
I ain’t afraid of dyin’
I’m in a macho clique.

We expect the worst to happen.
Part of that is Rappin’ and
Some of it is Shtick.
You doin’ it with super glue?

How modern of you.
From assembling model airplanes,
To jigsaw puzzles, Dude
Technology took away stitches, so
 I won’t look Frankenstein crude
