Best Showboat Poems

Dolly Parton

She’s a buxom blonde with a pretty face,
Who carries herself with such strength and grace.
From the humblest of beginnings, she got her start
Her songs are sweet poetry that comes from the heart.

There’s power in her words and I am lifted up high
By lovely songs like Silver and Gold and Love is like a Butterfly.
And a Coat of Many Colors always brings a tear to my eye
While working 9 to 5 leaves me feeling all revved up and alive.

Dolly’s quite a storyteller and with the turn of a phrase
She’ll wrap you up in her soft hearted ways.
Full of glitz and glam, she’s quite a showgirl
But she’s a down home country gal, in a showboat world.

She writes about life experiences and what she sees
Just the same as any poet, I’m sure you’ll agree
And with a voice so sweet, steady and strong
I hope her words will echo, on and on.

Premium Member Blind To Me

1. All I want is an increase in bonding
and on that smile to be a shareholder
watching the growth of your guts silently
to tenderly tame a curious filly
and put our hearts to a lovely feast

Chorus
I’m trying to make you see
I’m trying to make you know
I’m wishing to make you feel
that your heart is all I need

2. Let me shield your errors with a bumper
allow me mend those cracks love, with my splint
I’ll make those pains exist in brevity
making sure your shame and worry don’t bloat
to raise happy moments, never to slump

Chorus
I’m trying to make you see
I’m trying to make you know
I’m wishing to make you feel
that your heart is all I need

3. In the land of beauty, you are sovereign
perceived so perfect as I stay snowblind
your resistance seemingly factitious
clearly flaunting your charm on a showboat
but to another, you showed the sky light

Chorus X2
I’m trying to make you see
I’m trying to make you know
I’m wishing to make you feel
that your heart is all I need

Premium Member A Sinking Boat

The second house this year to go under in Atlantic City.
This is a scenario that does not look too pretty.
A once venerable establishment will soon be history.
The future of gaming is now obscured with doubt.
In the big crap game of business, they have just sevened-out.
We will be bidding farewell to the esteemed Showboat.
They have tooted their last horn with a sour note.
After August 31, that will be all she wrote.

The Original

On a ship of Fools she has gone with the Wind
Titanic’s sinking Christmas in Connecticut
Chained and Possessed by this Sudden Fear
The Heiress in this our life is in a cage

A stolen life by the old maid
Mr. Skeffington is waiting for the Marked Woman
In a lonely place in Casablanca are Angels with dirty faces
From Key Largo to Raintree County you just put your lips together and blow

Sing and dance Carmen Jones
Pray for your lover from the Cabin in the sky
When the man comes to dinner meet him at the showboat of your heart
A muletto is Imitating life

The love letter from the indiscretion’s of an American wife
After the seven year itch
The prince and the showgirl are waiting
To make love

Broken blossoms inherit the wind
The birth of a nation
Silences our intolerance
And now is the Scarlet Letter

Modern times reflect the kid
Mosier Verdox is the king in New York
A Woman in Paris waits by the City Lights
For The Great Dictator

Hushing Charlotte, Baby Jane, Aunt Alice they know your game
Fear, love, laughter or horror in this land of make believe.
The cackling woman digs your grave
Thank the original for all you enjoy!

Premium Member Desanctimonius Jumps In - In Trump's Own Words

Little upstart, young showboat
Lots of bluster full of gloat,
Been there minutes, thinks he knows,
Blind ambition and it shows.

They say he's bright and tough to boot,
Compared to me, now that's a hoot,
What's Yale and Harvard, simply names,
The constant ones he repeatedly proclaims.

As to the Navy, are we to be impressed,
He only served so he'd be thought best dressed;
The lawyer bit, now that brings on a shiver,
The very thought entwines my liver.

Now as to his wife,
I will admit she's rather nice,
But then let's pause to look at mine,
And tell me if she doesn't her outshine.

So there's no doubt whichever way you cut it,
I Trump this kid with character and wit,
He may be smart, but I'm the stable Genius,
Him all hot air, with me my smarts are intravenous.

As I ponder how I should react,
Knowing I’m the very best at tact,
I thought I'd stick to what I do so well,
While he drones on, I'll just my winning vision sell.

America needs me, not some kid wet behind the ears,
Whose monotone delivery brings us all to sleepy tears,
With me you get that vibrant lively spark
The choice quite clear, a Guppy or a Shark?

Showboat you never go out of style
Tucked in out of sight for quite a while
Roar to life perfection never fades away
Make a run one bright and sunny day

Fondest dream the past never growing dimmer
Sun shine the cars we love to shimmer
Captured image of perfection set forever
Styled sweet the steel we bolt together

Soon we fade our body gone forever
On the street we leave some history clever
Look in awe what we to awe inspire
Coolest metal the passion wildfire

Telco one
 not until 5:00 PM

 had objected
lack of will

 come back
and go to some of actor dinner

 will fix the car tomorrow
and work on my appeal

might work
and the appeal

 denied me
to get on the other headphones

when we go to the own charm
on Thursday

will build
and Costco tomorrow

dictation is working
 but still funky

but it will when it finally works
watch and at the showboat
 Mr. Sunshine

before taking all along
that low energy

back to two long flight
stop dictation
 of up to the line

Premium Member I'm tired of living and feared of dying

me too, Paul Robeson,
me too

"That ol' man river,
he must know something
But he don't say nothing"

I'm there too
in the shallows:
the blue mud of deep
southern clay
where I find green jasper
and dreams
rank from wet earth

We are all 'passing'
for something

my German is dirtied
by Danish
and lesser shades
of slushy heritage,
unwon races,
and uneaten leftovers

My avocado was ripe
for you yesterday

My showboat, she just
keeps "rolling along"

Now, Ava Gardner:
step out of the scene

Step out, Ava Gardner,
you will be remembered
by greater women
than me

Premium Member Oh, July

OH, JULY…..you showboat
Barging in…with a bang
Flags and fireworks
Flowers and tears

A grand party
Celebrating our INDEPENDENCE
From those who tried
To restrain our FREEDOM

Oh, July, let Us always remember
Those who ignited the fire
Tended the flames
Mended our oft-tattered flag

Keep My Soda Cold

I notice more drinks are being sold warm these days
If I took a sip of one, I would puke, so keep them away
I don't want alcohol, just a soothing drink
Nothing exotic, with onion or garlic, that would make my breath stink
I really don't care who serves it, a host or hostess, mellow or bold
One request, please, just keep my soda cold
Women or men, young or old, I have all kinds of fans
What are you into, I got it all here at your demand
Groupies, singles, the marrying type
Internet, cable, the concerts, it's all part of the hype
I have women that want to have my child, so I'm told
I don't want anything, but my soda cold
Everyone has a vice that drives them on
I just to drink my cold soda from dusk til dawn
All the hopefuls can just step aside
I don't dream of women or the perfect life
With my money, people can be bought or sold
I ask nothing from you as long as you keep my soda cold
Women can showboat with all their might
Ladies, don't even ask me if you can spend the night
The right woman will really have to break the mold
I am very demanding from people, especially when it comes to keeping my soda
cold
It's time to throw a tantrum for not getting my way
So I walk out, this ruins my agent's day
Stop picking your nose, you will not find any gold
Everyone must know, I just want my soda cold

up from their beds and

all the same maternally presence clement
intimate cavernous fire claimants contest

He Could Be Never Knew What

He Could Be Never Knew What

Could have been never knew what;
Heard from team he had been cut;
Boat that shows; (Showboat)
Temper throws,
And could not keep big mouth shut.
