Premium Member Our Limited Understanding

What did he mean
when he said
turn the other cheek?
Does it mean
violence isn't the answer
and peace is always the way?

Is it to deny the natural
carnal response?
To challenge the older laws
that have long been ensconced?

Maybe it's a come on
to the ungodly
"Give me what you got
I have no need to be afraid."
Maybe he meant
our bones are fragile
but our hope is not?
It shall never rust nor decay.

Surely a punch in the face
is no threat to one's life.
If a man put a gun to your wife
would you just let her die??

(surely life is precious
but God have mercy
should it come to this)

Should we cast down our weapons,
trade them for pruning hooks?
Is that what Jesus meant?
Or perhaps, maybe,
it begs you to take a deeper look.
and gaze at the wisdom God has sent.

Does it not surely mean that hatred
can't be snuffed out
by more hatred?
There are many trials we go through
but one thing we must know
is that love should always be sacred.

When he stated
Ye are the Light of the World
does that not imply
that the world itself is DARKNESS?
It's a gloomy forbidding place
with many pricks and thorns:
why add to the harshness?

For now it seems
we see through a glass darkly.
Having trouble deciphering
the passages and what they meant.
What about Romans 13
where it says, Execute vengeance
against those who do evil?
To whom is it referring
and to what extent?

Our limited understanding
leaves us grounded.

NOTE: This was written in response (and inspiration) to Liam McDaid's poem titled Thou Shalt Not Kill. It's a very fascinating topic, and one where I don't quite have answers...

Premium Member ::Limited edition::

I’m a limited edition, when all is said and done
Nothing special, only unique in a maze of humdrum
Kill spiders for a pastime, coz I hate their beady eyes
Watching me try to sleep, as they paralyse butterflies

I’m a limited edition, pulling cobwebs from beams
In great physical shape, yet mentally challenged it seems
Guilty of every known sin, with mitigation of course
They are all in my head, except when I use fatal force

I’m a limited edition, preprogrammed to survive
From one day to another, til next time I’m not revived
Still it’s great to be alive, from a dead man’s point of view
I certainly possess one, in a preserve this mind grew

I’m a limited edition, my pets couldn’t care less
Well possibly they do, but look up to me nonetheless
Take me as you find me on any given occasion
Whisper sweet nothings, I’m a sucker to soft persuasion

I’m a limited edition, light Cola makes me cringe
And hate drinking alcohol, unless going on a binge
Alas I cannot find god, he’s hidden away in reams
Leaving himself subjective, to idealistic extremes

I’m a limited edition, playing Russian roulette
Will even up the ante, fill the chamber, rig the bet
It’s a no brainer, literally speaking anyway
With just sawdust to lose, all so easy to blow away

Premium Member Limited Immortality

the older we are
the more invisible by far
we seem to the younger mind
but soon they will see
what’s known by you and me
we’re only immortal for a limited time

Premium Member Limited Lexicon

Put on word welfare by the poet gods
They've rationed my "Inspired Insanity"
No one could ever calculate the odds
This blatant act of inhumanity

No longer can I find words to describe
Blue eyes that generate a winning smile
Condemned, left with my profane diatribe
And sentenced as a poet with no style

Yet I am not that easily deterred
My simple lexicon is not a curse
There are so many meanings for one word
This poet still can write a simple verse

It will be rough but surely I'll make do
I might just borrow words from some of you.

Limited Automobile

You cannot change the past, as time is linear
Time is but a limited automobile.
It cannot move backwards.
It’s rear windows, a definite ebony.
It’s windshield wipers invisible to the eye.
You can drive
Awake, for the car does not drive itself or you
You drive it while it guides you
You are not your fate, but your fate is what you become
Whatever you mean
Fate takes you where it takes you
Fate is in control of your life
But so are you
Put your hands on the wheel
Foot on the gas
Drive, but don’t stop
You cannot change the past, but you can live in the present
Time is but a concept, fate is but a friend.
This friend has no end
For its end ended before a new you had begun
This car is Right, always moving Right.

Human Mind - Limited

Two times two is four
Four times two is eight
Eight times two is sixteen
How far can we multiply by two?
Forever

Two divided by two is one
One divided by two is one half
One half divided by two is one fourth
How far can we divide by two?
Forever

Where is the end of the universe?
Forever

So, I confess
Our mind is limited
Between infinity and infinitesimal

Beyond which
We use the word
FOREVER
Meaning I don’t know

Limited

Limited moments remaining,
Under a thousand stars,
Work yet to be done for living,
The best I can do as fars.
No one is free here,
Bound by the giant chain,
Some though don't care,
Others born for pain.
There is no equality,
There is no compassion,
In this ruthless city,
You may end in depression.
Accepting your nothingness,
Know you are alone,
In this vast wilderness,
You're meant to be gone.
What's it that worries you?
What makes you afraid?
Aren't you aware too?
You may be soon dead!!
Your anxieties will be burned,
Along with thy bones,
Your fears will get churned,
In loud death's tones.
In that intense moment,
Your insecurities will vanish,
To come alive just once,
Would be your only wish.
You will shout out loud,
"Suffering was self-made!!
How ignorant I was about,
Precious-life so great.
I could have made it better,
In my own way,
Begged the world rather,
Getting hurt every day."
But then there won't be time,
To get into past,
Realize now your prime,
Before comes the pain Last.

Such Limited Thoughts

Don’t limit thoughts, on what,
you think you know
Or what, or if,
or where we go.

This life a mystery,
as was your birth.
The decent of your soul,
to walk this earth.

The circle of life,
is more than is known,
Much more than we see,
we are never alone.

If you choose to believe,
that when we die,
That you know where we go,
would be a lie.

See life as it is,
a miraculous event
Why not believe,
we are heaven sent.

Uncharted and hidden,
is life’s mystery.
So much unexplained,
for it not to be.

Premium Member A Very Limited Panorama

This is the story of William from Tampa
While playing guitar on his parent's veranda
A guitar string broke
In his eye it did poke

Premium Member We Won'T Live Forever Time Limited Offer To Dave

I wish we could
sit in a soft field
of flowers and bask
in the sun on our
faces-I'd do it alone and
think of you and what
you would say in the
inspiritational message-
the sharing in the simplicity,
in the humaness of the
moment-in the sheer
joy to be in a warm
place---safe for a moment.

I can set up the scene,
the characters, the dialogue,
We will not live forever,
Lost time in a debit,
account held against
small core savings.

In the end will it be
"enough" that we--I -tried?

Will there be credit for
the tenacity? Or are we
selling finely carved and
cheap plastic security?

(Written by my Ex wife sometime during our 36 yr relationship.)

Premium Member Freedom of Limited Expression

Freedom is somewhat limited
In a so-called democratic society
At times, people cannot truly tell it like it is
People cannot vote freely
Without some restrictions or some stupidities
In order to weaken the disadvantaged
Even though the US first amendment guarantees
Freedom of speech, freedom of expression
To assemble peacefully, freedom of religion
Freedom is not what it is
It is not how it is articulated in the glossary
Freedom is relative, please
Do not say fire vociferously
Or yell gun in the theater
At church or in the street corner
You will be prosecuted
Freedom is not what it should be
It is not what the US Constitution intended
It to be
Freedom is somewhat controlled and limited.

Premium Member Your Time Is Limited

Your life is the full world, the stars, sun, and moon.
On your own, you can fight the tough times real soon.
Unsteady moves can't let you up the ladder; never tone down.
Rarely will we meet; we set the lousy goal to impugn.

Tacked and seated, man has doubts around his destiny.
In the universe, all is set by its needs, not by inerrancy.
Memories of agony and misery are not murky.
Emotions disguise behind words, extort repay.

Important to be happy, do what you love, and you will succeed.
Share your calmness, work for success, and greater reward.

Love the holiest stars; you will get a reverse welt.
In the trials of life, sync up to the ethical dealt.
Muttering stops; the sun has faded to that extent.
If your core tilts to life, brave vitality, faith will last.
Time is short; live the life of no one or precept.
Enduring one's own goal, expect to aim too tight.
During your life, believe yet not fall into the urge to defect.
