Premium Member Adrift In Fiction

Placid rain gently kisses unblemished windows
as leaves fall in an Autumn breeze.
In the distance cinereal clouds congregate,
converging upon the city's royal citadel.

Oblivious to the storm, adrift in cultural fiction
she sits immersed from the ambience
of the scent of new leaves.

Hypnotised - tranquil words enchant her mind,
as her eyes nonchalantly embrace each paragraph.
Her heart is at peace, relating to each character,
some that make her smile - others that displease her.

Jealous winds blow abundant rain,
like bullets shooting against her window.
Attempting to distract from her infatuation,
but her spirit is an unconquerable fortress.

The world is forgotten to her,
as her soul performs the role
of her favourite character.
Observing to learn through them,
so she can learn about her self.

The final page,
the last sentence,
leads to watery eyes.
For the peace and beauty
she experiences in books,
she does not find in life.

Premium Member Adrift In the Midst of Gladness and Sadness

Walking upon silent parched paths,
under speechless scarlet skies.
Your name sits upon the tip of my tongue,
listening to the susurration of my heart.
Each vibration echoes tones of lament,
conflicted by the principles of time.

Adrift in the midst of gladness and sadness,
in a plot without a twist, lost in blackness and slackness,
through turbulent trials, I yearn for you to return.

Distance remains an unknown intangible pain,
but visions of your timid cute brown eyes remain.
How your mouthwatering scent seduced senses.
How your luscious lips dissolved all walled defences.
Now I yearn for queen of my heart to re-appear,
to sleep in each others arms, into the new year.

Adrift in the midst of gladness and sadness,
in a plot without a twist, lost in blackness and slackness,
through turbulent trials, I yearn for you to return.

Without you the mind is misplaced in marshlands,
where intimacy is lost to complex riddles called life.
Under cold ebony skies, your memories flicker like candlelight,
you are the flame, which insulates my heart with devotional delight.

Wanted to experiment with a mix free verse and rhyme.
After contemplating calling it a free verse or rhyme, I settled for lyric.
Maybe an idea for a contest.

Premium Member Adrift On An Amber Sea

In quest to find respite and solitude
I drift on the light of an amber sea
It's there I pray in words of gratitude
for a life that's blessed with serenity

Riding on waves where only peace prevails
gently lulled to sleep by swells as they crest
Tropic winds flirt with my billowing sails
I dream of feasting as Poseidon's guest

This peaceful voyage calms my heart and fears
Quiets the distress I've felt in the past
There's never a threat I will spill sad tears
while my anchor of burdens is not cast

I shall sail upon this sea in my heart
without the need for a compass or chart

Oh moon, with your many moods,
your beauty woos me, as you
                                   wax and wane majestic.

                                Your mesmerizing call awakens
my heart, as you carry me away
like the tides that ebb and flow
                               along your shimmery pathways.

Where you go, I will follow,
guided by a spirit of wanderlust
                                   to distant lands and seas,
                               navigating by the stars alone.

For I am captivated by your beauty
as I hear your siren song calling
                               an enchanting, haunting melody
                                     too powerful to resist.

                                     My heart is moonstruck
away I go, adrift and wandering
until I meet you face to face
                                       forever I will roam.

Adrift

Adrift in this vast,
empty sea. Silent,
save for the beckoning call
of distant gulls,
your only friend. And
the makeshift mast and sail is
uselessly flaccid.

And beneath,
concealed
by the dangling sway,
of muddy-
moss-green ribbons of waving kelp,
is the dark murk
of unknown depths.

Then the wind
panics,
arousing your sail and
it swells into life
and draws you towards home.

Adrift

Alone for for now driffting apon the sea.
You stayed at the shore.
Cause you never found comfort in someone like me.

The sunset is empty when your alone.
Worthless is the kingdom.
When no one is willing to share the
throne.

I was your clown when in shadows I always
found a way to make your spirts lift.
Ive lost all since of direction.
Since you set me adrift.

Was it only a moment something I cold not see.
the heart bleeds still.
From this prison called a memory.

The storm doesnt effect me out here.
Its not death.
But isolation I fear.

The wind is my only friend the ocean my home.
Searching for that which I cannot have.
On this endless quest I roam.

Drawing a heart inside your hand as
 through the sand you sift.
From the comfort of the shore I wonder
do you recall.
Are love you set adrift.

All these lonely people
secluded
drifting
in parallel worlds
of isolation
that never intersect

If only they could find each other
somehow converge and
burst the bubbles of separation

Living in unrelated
universes of emptiness
find ways to heal each other
within their surreal nothingness
fixated on the past
stop choosing to
ignore the whole big world

If all the lonely people
got together they could
abolish loneliness
they would they could they should

Premium Member To Uplift, Or Live Adrift

I ponder my existence beyond the breakers,
Navigating depth’s perils past shallows of youth.
Will I rise with the tides and lift up those near me,
Or will I drift along unanchored by the truth?

Avoiding a solo Melville-penned fate, or wreck,
Depends on my “see man” skills and good attitudes.
Striving to be a vessel of encouragement,
As my life’s journey marks increasing latitudes.

Experience stored as miles pass under my keel;
To have all the answers I surely don’t pretend.
With care and service among my mental cargo,
I am ready to help any mariner friend.

And so it is for all who sail upon life’s seas;
Constant watch on the horizon, helm, and radar.
Make no ties, steer alone, try to stay on course; or
Give the hope and guidance of a familiar star.

As raindrops grace my windowpane,
My thoughts return to you again;
Beneath those cliffs of 'Evermore',
That morn along that rocky shore.

My mind ablaze, in that old flame,
As raindrops grace my windowpane;
Beneath those veils of silver mist,
Drenched in the bliss, of that first kiss.

Lost lover to that ocean's roar,
Cannon, the one that I adore;
As raindrops grace my windowpane,
I am consumed by you again.

A soul on fire, now set adrift,
I sail beneath those purple cliffs;
Upon a sea of joy and pain,
As raindrops grace my windowpane.

This boat is full
a vessel overflowing
     a shoal
     afloat
in bitter mist

Dream boy, dream—
     drab gloom
          sunlight on your husk;
     damp frazzles
          lightweight trunks
          around your gaunt calves;
     fields of algae
          spacious green meadows,
     gannets
          chanting larks

You buried memories
with clawing fingers in scarred soil—
     - small hibiscus petals
     rosewater fragrance
     one rippled giggle
     tattered pink of her dress
small scabs under band aids -
fertilized dust with saline grief

This boat is full
a vessel overflowing
darkness howls

Premium Member Sailing Adrift

As I sailed in a small ivory sailboat
on crystal blue waters.

The wind gently blew through my
mahogany hair.

Next, I saw dolphins doing backflips
out of the water causing a ripple
effect.

Then as I sailed some more I saw
a school of rainbow fish swimming
upstream.

Up above me, I saw a flock of birds
soaring high in the azure sky.

As the golden orb shined down on
me as I sailed adrift in the ocean
blue, on a Sunday afternoon.

Adrift Endings

Hauntingly explicit, plighted
  in yesterday's cloaked mystery,
wafting as whispers through
 wistfully grayed memories on dimly
          recalled moonlit indulgences,
winding imprecise hazy endings
    beyond darkly covert horizons

love isn't blind, it's persistently unsighted
                by distantly echoed adrift endings

Eternally doomed adrift
Samuel Taylor Coleridge
The Mariner repeats his
Story over and over now.

A sad soul in true agony
Incomprehensible
His heart now dry as dust
To his fate he must bow.

Adrift On Love

Adrift...I move through uncharted waters
My boat secure and true
Sirens call to me..pulling me closer
I gaze at the beauty of their true forms

Yet, they do not hold these forms for long
they cannot shine because they fear what I see
they only know what was the past...dark waters

I move forward, to another port, true and secure of myself...Adrift on love
