MORNING'S GENTLE HUSH
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The world awakens from its soft dreams
The stars fade out, like embers cold,
The sunrise paints the sky with hues of gold.
The darkness slowly starts to flee,
The trees, like sentinels of old,
Stand guard, their branches stretching bold.
The dew-kissed grass reflects the sun's rays,
The air, crisp and cool, with scents of bloom,
Invigorates the senses, a morning perfume.
The world, in all its beauty lies
‘Tis a time for dreams, a time for hope,
A time for new beginnings, with the morning we elope.
Warmth of Similarity
You remind me of a synchronized play of violins
Soothing to the vibrations they play
Your touch is the rhythm of a string
hold me gently with similarity
Becoming
Time casts a heavy glow
On the world I left behind,
Transfixed on a new tomorrow,
All the new seeds I’ll sow.
Emerging is a new day,
How the light blinds my eyes.
Focus on the bright cascade
Of this everlasting rise.
Beneath the earth is trembling,
My footsteps unsure and numb.
The silence almost deafening—
I can almost hear Hope hum.
A quick glance back behind me
At the thralldom left behind,
Hope continues to remind me
Of all I’m rising from.
The dawn unfolds before me,
A light I’ve never known.
Each step is one small victory,
In this light I call my own.
A gentle breeze enfolds me,
Countless paths untrod.
With open arms, I gather
The dreams I once thought flawed.
ahhh... the crisp feel of the new notebook
its spine never cracked open
its pages of virgin white perfectly aligned
awaiting their marching orders
eager for all and any pen markings
from sunday best handwriting to doodles
inviting playful interaction
your creative élan of spontaneity
random thoughts splashed on a page
scripted lines scribbled to offload
a mind seeking clarity, peace or absolution
seeking a semblance of order
of profound clarity or silly mischief
one page then another
the daily journal of a busy mind
in search of something
through self-expression
hoping to find it between
the whites of pages
and the ink of a ballpoint pen
All alone in my silent confessions
  long I have dwelt on secret battles fought,
and poison arrows of those obsessions
  alas might pierce my last refuge methought.
But having crossed my Rubicon I wait
  in new beginnings, in love’s boons to be
where new battles will rage and punctuate
  the fullness of time in his century.
To that cause I am heart and soul aware
  and exceptional favour bears me more,
that in my time I’ll have a son and heir
  who fills in me what was missing before.
Soon I will hail on a day still to dawn
to me a millennia child is born.
Love's Beginnings and Endings
This, is where it began,
and this is where it ended.
Here
my heart knew
it must close what it started.
I gave you my heart,
but you knew I never belonged there
before I had a chance to walk away
you made friends with the grim reaper and sent him out to play.
Play time's over.
Now it's time for time-out.
Let's think hard on where we went wrong,
so we can someday forgive
and find where we truly belong
Garden Of Beginnings
In the Garden of Beginings
Projects failed or flowered,
Left to grow or to wither
Many being overpowered,
Each an experiment,
A blending of force
Each left to follow its
Own individual  course.
None were culled
Without good reason
Flowering and blooming
For season after season.
Experiment of dimensions
Matter, time, force, space
Some rising to exist briefly,
Some at more sedate pace
As the Universal Gardner,
Glorying in the sight
Of destructive darkness
And brilliant creative light.
Used the lightest of control
To keep things on track,
Moving from place to place
Its tools slung on its back
New Beginnings
In the depths of each painful crack there lies a sunrise, shining on the other side. Butterflies and birds whispering of new beginnings, sprouting out from all the pain. Beautiful flowers that grow from the dirt.
 -From my book "Thoughts in Water, Feelings on Sand".
BEGINNINGS AND ENDINGS
there is a quickening in the forest
robins sing to us of universal sharing
as the earth calls us
to hear again the song of life
a thin brown layer of soil
is all we have
between ourselves and oblivion
a new language is needed
drums from Africa
echoing through termite mounds
to the savanna of a loving way
I made a choice
to be vegetarian, then vegan
clearing rivers from waste
and sky from methane
fear is contagious
but so is compassion
and it begins with me
how quickly it all goes by
in this moment of light and despair
I find what nourishes me indelibly:
the touch of a lover’s hand
worlds within a plant
tears as family members in silent movies
embrace Shakespearean deaths
my poems stumble
impatient to journey
as ghosts march from the tunnel
looking to us for resurrection
I have treated life
as a problem in accuracy, balance and proportion
but my careful ordering
is not sufficiently capacious
I say these things at age 80
because I burst with things unsaid and undone
I ride the waves
but do not see the stars
until I am swept under
denial is no longer possible
as a warrior traces his exit
from literal to mythic
To New Beginnings- A Very Happy New Year To All
Hope is the spark that lights up our way,
Fear disappears with each step we tread.
Aim is the compass that guides us through,
Family is the treasure we hold close to.
Let the sorrows of yesterday fade away,
For the New Year dawns with a brighter day.
Every milestone marks a reason to smile,
Each moment is a gift, a chance to review our mistakes.
Success gives us wings to soar to the skies,
But humility keeps our hearts grounded.
The past teaches, the future inspires.
As a new chapter begins, full of laughter and desires.
With a New Year, new resolutions arise,
A fresh hope to pursue new ambitions.
Eyes gleam with the light of determination,
As the thirst to discover carries us through.
So with open hearts and joyous cheers,
Let’s celebrate the promise of this New Year!
