Younger Me

We walk hand in hand
Me and who I used to be
Sometimes I feel like I failed her
Sometimes I feel like i could do better
Like I dissappointed her
Tears stain my face 
As she squeezes my hand
Reassuring me
That we are in this together.

In my younger days

The world has changed in so many ways 
It's nothing like the good old days 

There was only 3 channels on the TV and we boiled a kettle to make the tea

Lots of fresh air playing outdoor in the sun 
Football  hopscotch just having fun

Having a Picnic in the park  getting home

A funeral for myself

It was a funeral for myself 
And I still haven't buried her yet
The sky opened up and released its anger 
Rained down in grief and sadness
The only other witness to her multiple deaths
The world built her to break
It was too late to save her 
For she was now unrecognisable 
In a casket crafted from pain

Years Ago

Looking back on my younger days
and in that summer haze
you were the pearl my girl
in my oyster the whole wide world
so many memories
of you me and how we used to be
but of photographs far too few
altho' we did have a laugh a two
now all growing dim and grey
with the fading shades of day

Letter to my younger self

Dear younger me,
You won’t understand this yet, 
but the world doesn’t stay kind.
You don’t know it yet, 
but your smile will crack in places, no one can see.
You’ll carry weight meant for two instead of one. 
Still blaming yourself for breaking everyday.
One day you will look back,
Not with pride,
Not with peace,
But with a trembling softness

If I were younger

The sun is intense this morning
I am wearing my husband’s black sweatshirt
No bra
Just me and the shirt
And my flannel pajama pants
I am not a Neanderthal
If I were younger, I would take off the shirt

The apartment smelled like smoke
Frail and fleeting
I looked at her
She never ate
Always yelled
I looked at him
He never stayed
Always somber
Curled in a blanket on the floor
Thin and cold
Looking up at the ceiling
A stain on the wall
The window was open
Screaming in the kitchen
Needles on the floor
The carpet dirty
I walked around a little bit

Ah, you are so young still,
too tender to see how the storms are shaping you.
These trials—though heavy now—
are quietly teaching you how to rise.

Do you know, even now,
you are already on the right path?
One day, you will stand fierce—
undaunted, unbroken—
no matter what life dares to place in your way.

Your strength is already blooming.

To my younger self

To my younger self,
Here's a message to you,
A reference for all you go through,
Take heed from the start,
Cherish your giving heart,
It'll push you beyond limits,
Without even counting minutes,
Pushing yourself till pores bleed,
Working hard is your creed,
You are actually addicted, 
Making social life conflicted, 
Don't forget to smell the roses, 
Understand the threat that poses,

I wish everybody was kind
I wish the world wouldn't be evil
I wish addictions were not a thing
I wish people would know when they need to get help
I wish people would get help when they know they need it

The Younger Wife

After ten years of marriage, he cast me aside, 
For a younger woman with bounce in her stride.
He said he loved her, and she made him feel young. 
Then he said I was dated and too overstrung.
So, I looked in my mirror to see what he saw 
And saw an old woman whose emotions were

It's beyond people's comprehension
That I was once a snotty nosed little know it all

     In every mirror I see
       a fellow much younger than me

     But when they take my photo
