In a meadow of death a rose,
our remains shed skin quietly;
Thorns fall out as we decompose,
A bit of you and some of me;
Feeding the soil triumphantly,
reviving a bloom of romance;
Caught the kiss of a honeybee,
fertilizing spring’s winsome chance.

The learning of he who lacks poise,
In coward’s hand arms carried rife,
Contentment there’s, nor calm repose
To old man with a winsome wife.

Translation |07.10.2024| knowledge, weapons, timid, wife, old man
Poet’s note: Sanskrit has thousands of verses of wisdom called Subhashhitam. Words of wisdom on knowledge of a man who lacks confidence and poise, weapons in the hands of a coward. They do not help much like a beautiful young wife of an old man. The transliteration of the Sanskrit verse follows:
Praagalbhya-heenasya narasya vidyaa, shastram yathaa kaa-purushhasya haste |
Na triptim utpaadayate shareere, vriddhasya daaraa iva darshaneeyaa ||

If lies are told to save,
Will sin be judged at the grave?
Smile darling! The winsome homely,
You never change; your hair needs no tatting,
So in penury, your short smile you gave.

Where hyacinths bloom, cardinals hop and sing,
Winsome is the visage of verdant vibrant spring
Beautifying fragrant prairies, blossoming trees,
Alluring bees waltzing on wings of tender breeze
Undulating gleefully crest of burbling streams,
Frolicking on melodies of robin’s nesting dreams,
Euphoric in hilarity of dancing yellow daffodils,
Merriment of white lilies, panorama of foothills,
Spring’s revelry buoying where butterflies spree,
An eagle’s flight above marveling splendorous glee.

THE TALE OF THE AWSOME WINSOME KNIGHT
© 2021 John T Haupt
Armed with luminosity,
And with epiphanous numinosity,
With snicker-snacks,
And a few quick hacks
The winsome knight vanquished
The frumious bandersnatch
In all the fierceness of its abundant ferocity,
And came galumphing back home
In victory.

Spring tantalizingly unfolds vernal, winsome
Blossoms of lilies pristine, undulating to appease
Fawning nectar-dreams adrift on wings of bees
Frolicking tranquility of rustling flowering trees
Refulgent summer, too, unpacks variegated
Revelry on rivers, oceans, flamboyant meadows
As ubiquitously nature paints blooms primrose
On hills and valleys oscillating jubilant shadows
Autumn’s brilliance courts dazzling ebullience
Of mellowed sun scintillating eventide’s ruby glow
Where gamboge leaves of fall amber winds blow
As passions of romance vie moonlit stellar show
Snowfalls titillate, unveiling vehement winter
In eyes of lovers ruminating in blessings of yore
When enticing beats of hearts indulgently implore
Aesthetic glacial memories venerated evermore

Winsome Wisteria Sonnet
Eden, open your ardent arms to grace
Wisteria's soft lilac petaled blooms
Draped stunningly about Spring’s sunny face
In softest shades of lavender like plumes.
Your aroma wafts heady in the breeze
When graceful racemes descend from above.
Divine as the frilling flowering trees
Your stunning sight captures my heart with love.
Goddess Venus must surely be aware
Of the glorious sight that you bestow
Like dainty dangling ringlets in Spring’s hair
As zephyrs sprinkle your petals below.
I am profoundly moved by your presence
And tranquilly transported with pleasance.

If he gets a step closer I will pulverize him.
Winsome Witch Wisteria White whispered to Big Jim.
Lightning lit up the sky, and they saw the warlock’s face.
He was masculine, kindly handsome with sexual grace.
You can’t keep this one! Big Jim said with clairsentient alarm.
She laughed and greeted the warlock, all tingly and warm.
I’m going to keep you forever, she said, giving him a flirty wink.
The wily warlock laughed, and thought that’s what you think.
He had been sent by the Warlock and Witch C.I.A. to spy
On Witch Wisteria White and this weird Big Jim guy.
If she got out of line, he was pre-cleared to atomize.
These two settled down and fell in love, no big surprise.

Weighty is the charm in its fulsome
Irresistibly well and wholesome
Never short of radiance so fearsome
Soft, sweet and gentle, all is her sum
Of this rare beauty, please give me some
Marry me, let’s both make a handsome
Eyes and hearts know how you are lovesome

Baby
Helpless, trusting
A fresh start for many
Sleepless nights for a great reason
The holding, hugging, rocking, cuddling
Touching of tiny baby fingers
Delightfulness unfolds
Winsome, playful
Baby

Uplift the scent of stars from nightshade.
Sprinkle moondust upon unearthly skies.
Portals light up
And smile within.
Welcome to the garden of breathless night.
Swings the cedar from the country porch.
Chiming butterflies verdigris flight.
Charmed in calico dress,
Summer flirts with the best.
Nearby birdhouse-chapel whitewashed with light.
The wicker basket and hallowed bells of bicycle mourn.
The lovers depart at the winsome gate of Winterborne.
Two wheels spin,
With goodbye grin.
The clinging vine, in sorrow, slow waits until morrow.

I’ve been so wrong so many times
and for my multifarious crimes
as the kind of man who makes
the dumbest of all dumb mistakes
as if for lolly,
have grown accustomed to the folly
of my ways
and misspent days.
To fall in love, not once or twice
or even thrice,
but hopefully not more than four
times, means the only thing I’m sure
of's that the falling in’s
the very sweetest of life’s sins.
And just as well,
‘cos the breaking ups are bloody hell.

Winsome student enrolled with a rap sheet name,
school authorities rue the day you first came
Such a young fearless rebel,
mischief and mayhem always seem to follow
Wonder who made the bathroom toilets explode
Plead your rebellious cause,
explain the flooded basement hall
The cost of educating you ain't small,
but it do give the principal pause
Your substitute teacher is scared,
her students said she was hiding under a chair
She believes you are the reason she's losing her hair
School counselor thinks you're emotionally impaired,
and the faculty want their grievances against you aired
Winsome rebel, how is it you became who you are?
What force forged, then dropped you from a malevolent shooting star?
Angry non-conformist child who was born in the back of a tavern bar
Was with your parents when they were killed by a speeding oncoming car
Got a mad heart that carries such a deep soul searing scar
Gonna burn a blazing path, because a charming rebel can always go far

One woman of a certain percentage,
Kept her upkeep to skillful advantage.
As the years sped past,
She maintained her class;
Not turning old but into fine vintage.
