The Final Minute

The final minute’s ticked its last
For “60 Minutes”’ time has passed.
A word of warning should suffice –
Its murderer was Bari Weiss.

First Anderson announced he’d leave;
His absence will make many grieve.
Then double axes heaved a chop,
Letting 2 reporters drop.

The Sharyn and Cecilia bust
Removed 2 women I did trust
To tell the stories, blow by blow,
The public has a right to know.

When Ms. Alfonsi spoke her mind
About a cancelled show, she’d find
The bigwigs didn’t like her nerve;
Her canning she did not deserve.

But worst of all was letting go
Scott Pelley, who, as we all know.
Was “60 Minutes”’ heart and soul
And perfect for his starring role.

He pulled no punches and did speak
With well-placed anger; his critique
Cost him his job. Ms. Weiss sure botched
A show we eagerly once watched.

Premium Member My Yesterday

Yesterday, Oh, I believe in yesterday—Lennon-McCartney (The Beatles)
I’ve got sunshine on a cloudy day—Smokey Robinson/Bobby Rogers (Smokey Robinson & The Miracles)
I see trees of green—Bob Thiele & George David Weiss (Louis Armstrong)

Hardships and misfortunes
emerged to be a distant memory
But as my thoughts look back
It seems to reflect a well-told story
When Spring comes to L.A.
Before the month of May
I guess you’d like to say
What makes you feel this way
My girl helps make this day
Red roses true
Flowers bloom blue
The song I sing
A stunning thing

I am just a human
A natural being
Flesh and bone essences
Not an all-seeing thing
A simple citizen
To this land and country
Just one in a million
For life and liberty
Rainbow hues plus
Auspicious light
Skips before us
Rippling and tight

Love was an easy game
Many places to hide
We’ll seek and find your name
As telltale signs to guide
One way they had to go
Was one they did not know
Something they wouldn’t say
Belong to yesterday
Sweet birdsongs sing
Rejoicing bring
This wondrous earth
A new day’s birth

Premium Member Dig What I Say

Say, dig what I say
Talkin’ bout a new jazz vibe/
Man, move over/
the Jazz Cookers are hittin’ their stride in the groove to stay alive/
Eddie Henderson/
Cecil McBee/
George Cables,Billy Hart
and Billy Harper/
swingin’ harder jazz be flying/
downbeat, upbeat, man, count It off/
their soul auras are in the jazz notes they play/
David Weiss and Donald Harrison are fryin’ their amps/
burnin’ the house down/
with the jazz club scene in decline/
and record labels cuttin’ back on jazz/
the jazz Cookers have to stay alive and relevant in a jazz-changing world/
so dig, be cool struttin’ as Sonny Clark would say/
you might not always get a payday but you love to play/
the Cookers boss horns are on fire/
hip tones blowin' from the stage/bro, this is the jazz life you chose and after a gig, you might be all alone/
so be in the moment and improvise on your jazz note phrasing/
you’ll find the rhythm and meaning knowing you can play the same note gig after gig night after night/
but different every time/
are you hip to the Cookers?/
they will have you finger poppin’ and blowin' your mind/
wahoo that’s a whole lotta jazz

Premium Member The Circle Redrawn

Bright summer flowers, wilt and die
Cold autumn rains, fall from the sky
My heart beats out a knowing sigh
The circle of life, the blink of an eye

One by one, I admired them all
The seasonal flowers, large and small
The beauty they brought is what I recall
As I look back to spring from fall

A lifetime in flowers, spring colors, sweet dew
The roses of summer, the thorns they accrue
Fall has the purples, the pinks and the blues
Now winter brings death to all but a few

The days of summer have come and gone
The sun loses warmth and nature moves on
Should I fall asleep and not see the dawn
Life will continue, the circle redrawn

Premium Member The Brutal Truth collaboration with Sandra Weiss

My mirror tells the brutal truth,
a woeful tale of vanished youth

Where one eye squints and one eye shines
and broken dreams are long dark lines.

Emotionless and coldly callous
Honesty without spite or malice

Shamelessly silent yet telling all
Reflecting the writing on the wall.

An image appearing all too clear
Becomes too telling, too austere

Once colorful hues seen on display
Have now faded into a dismal gray

To know and see what is real and true
But then to sadly regret the view.

Telling myself it doesn't matter
Yet knowing, one is bound to shatter.

Premium Member Love Is, Love Isn't Collaboration with Sandra Weiss

I know the pain that love can bring
How hurtful words can bite and sting
When lies are told, love will take wings
That real love doesn't come with strings

Love, liken to a pendulum swing
Taking it all not giving a thing
Once I listened to my heart sing
When I thought love was everything.

What happens is, that we don't see
Sometimes love's not meant to be
Perhaps there should be a decree,
The lock for love has lost it's key

I found that love was not for me
It brings with it too much debris
Though some will say that love is free
I'd have to say, I disagree.

Premium Member Happy New Year

Photo: Mt. Chocorua , New Hampshire
Framed by Poetess Sandy Weiss

Happy New Year to everyone, from Mt. Chocorua in New Hampshire:
I wish your life to be bright as snow, your purpose wrapped with a red bow
That you have peace from the quietness of this lake in the stillness of winter
That you have strength like the mountain that shines over shadows
Enjoy precious time with creativity; cherish beautiful scenes in God’s creation
I wish you safety, love, good health and happiness in the days ahead
I offer you this image to turn to in any challenging times of trouble
I send you smiles and hugs from one of my favorite places – Blessings to you all!

Premium Member An Amazing Drink

Under the sparkling autumn sky
Munich is lively during intoxicating Oktoberfest
Where beer barrels roll empty
As scores of glasses are filled with hefeweizen.

The weiss beer brewed from golden wheat
With pieces of ripe banana and clove
Blended with copious splash of vanilla
Is an amazing drink of unique flavor and aroma.

Sweet and fruity unfiltered cloudy ale
With suspended yeast afloat on bubble
Goes down millions of parched throats
The spirit of jubilation floats in fiesta air.

Du schöne liebe, schöne süße
du Engel der zum Licht mich weiht
..... Idol dich grüße ich,...In Unsterblichkeit.
Du flutest durch mein ganzes Leben,
gleicht einem See Wind harb und rein,
und meiner Seele bangen streben
führst du beger nach Hef gemein.
Stehts frischer Wohlgeruch
der blühend in lieb gemachte dürfte taucht,
vergessen Weihrauch der glühend,
geheim in tiefer Nacht verhaucht.

Gleich eine Sphinx
thronst du in blauer Lüfte wehen

Poem Penned Preternaturally

POEM PENNED PRETERNATURALLY

Too many misses of sprinkles
Wets the heart like little drizzles
Over the rags of time
The chasm between us couldn't be caged
By the eons of past pain
During our storm and rain
Thunder slice me off a heart of cold fury
Because anger rest in the bosom of fools
But the cold chill of your serendipity arouse every shivers
Like the toe poke of a baby when bathed
Our brotherhood, blossoming rose in the sun
A ripening wheat in a flourishing field
With a soft conscience to pacify the sun
The heat of the mo' can not asphyxiate a flame
Lighted by compassion, affection & name-identity
Soulnated with telepathy.
And to cross-eye again,
Every dog has its own day
Which keeps soul in blazing affection of anticipation
To subsequently engage brotherly communication.

Wer

stumm und beinah´ ohne Zweifel;

Premium Member The Skies

This poem is inspired by the photos (sorry they upload blurry - when they are clear).

**Also thank you to Sandy Weiss for the beautiful framing of them**

The skies hold for me, all my dreams I have within
Unfolding shades of color, like prizes of love to win
Yellow wings of clouds spread, flying above the trees
Carrying all of my secret wishes in the wind with ease
Bright reflections from the water, shine with a glow
It doesn't matter right now, the things I don't know
What I do know is, I've looked above since I was young
Through laughter, tears and all that may have stung
Even with the troubles, that I may have in this day,
This special place in the sky, gives me all I need to say

Premium Member Shine

Photo I took and thanks to Sandra Weiss who framed it :)

Light will lead you through the shadows
That cover the snow covered ground
Walk through the frosty, painted snow
Breathe the fresh air that is around

There is a new rising each day
Decorating your life as well
So, let your soul shine the same way
Written words, will ring like a bell
