For the 'Epiphany' Poetry Contest of Constance La France
"No one ever graduates from Bible study until he meets its Author face to face." Everett Harris
That AHA moment
that hits you all at once -
it’s a wonderful feelings
especially if you’ve been praying for it
I’m looking more and more each day
for my very own epiphany
as I read the scriptures followed
by watching videos that make a deep dive.
Pastors with great wisdom
and also Biblical scholars
give lots of awesome insights
into many of the books of the Bible.
The study of scriptures has become
fun for me now that I’ve found
interesting podcasters to follow,
for example, on Youtube and other websites.
Stories I once took for granted
are coming alive for me now.
I thank God for Eureka moments
of profound and clear comprehension.
I’m prepping for school
the unglamorous labour
that builds a future
I like to read people's ‘back to college’ lists - where I can sample what students are buying this year. I find these lists on college-ish websites like ‘Her Campus.’ The number one desire this year is for Apple Air Pods (I certainly love MY AirPod 4s).
We read in silence,
both contented this counted
as togetherness
Beside lists there are surveys on trends.
“Good news,” I announced to Peter, who was sitting next to me, “hot, weird guys are in,” I said it with the satisfaction of someone whose personal choice has been validated by GenZ.
“I still don’t want one,” he says blandly.
Looking at a list of 'questions for your boyfriend,' I asked,
“If you had to change one thing about me, what would it be?”
“Well, you could lose the clothes,” he suggested, helpfully.
No one cares
but I like his hairs
not one more than another
but his left ear
is superior to the other
you heard it here

A song for this:
Young Folks by Peter Bjorn and John
I have five hobbies that keep me freshly enthusiastic and alive.
Painting is incredible; when I get tired of it, I buy new paints.
I recently bought some gorgeous glitter paints.
That got me back into my art studio fast!
Another hobby I have is cartooning.
All of my paintings begin as cartoons.
I have been drawing since I was four.
When I tire of this, I turn to another hobby. I have four more.
My third hobby is word games. I play scrabble-like games every day.
Not for an hour, but between four and six hours.
I am completely excited about words.
Always have been.
Hobby number four is poetry.
I learned as many types of poetry as I could from www.poetrysoup.com
They tell you how to create every type – diminished hexaverse, senryu, haiku.
I use them as a reference.
If I am out of poem ideas I turn to one of my favorite websites.
www.pinterest.com which has marvelous pictures of a variety of things.
I find ten that I like and save them, writing down a name for each.
Then I create a poem for each of them. This also keeps me freshly enthusiastic!
As I continue to deep in myself with poetry
I discover a new language, foreign
Almost like unscrambling the word pattern
Using a mixture of ingredients to describe a pride
Finding early 2000 websites to create a blog
Showing people my words anonymously.
Hello new world! Please welcome me with such care.
phones used to be for phone calls
back in the day
my day
the fifties, sixties, seventies and eighties
Now phones include word games
video games, emails, reference books
text messages, voice mail, websites
Terms we did not know yet back in the day
My day
In 1964 I would have never believed that I would someday
use a phone like George on the Jetson’s cartoon show
I thought that Zoom was laughable, a comical impossibility.
I could not have envisioned future I-phones back in the day.
Remember twisting the spiral cord attached to the wall, so you could sit on
the floor around the corner from your parents and
use their communal phone? I sure do!

There's no need to worry, who wants to steal your work?
You think that under every stone, some thieves may lurk;
I wish they would - they may have more success than me,
perhaps they might get the credit for decent mystery.
Someone said they changed websites because of abuse,
don't say everything's wonderful, be smart, hang loose;
one guy called me a 'f------ ****,' just be a mouse,
what would you expect from someone like a scouse.
I won a competition, someone liked me after all,
but then how could you resist something so magical;
my wife also writes, with perception, iron with feeling,
a good team - she does the ironing and I do the stealing.
Check your bank account - the scammers might clear you out,
before you start wondering what all this security's about.
i want to be like the girls online
the girls you searched for
sought out on your websites
terms put together in incoherent order
shopping for your perfect prize
which one, which video
curves, lips, thighs, belly, big doe eyes-
her.
she’s the one.
the one that isn’t me.
i want to be like the girls online
no insecurities spoken
(that would kill the mood)
no tears shed
(unless that’s what YOU want)
no complains, no i don’t knows, no buts,
no second guessing no birth control
noperiodsnobodyhairnowomanhood-
if that’s what it takes,
why won’t
my performances work?
i want to be like the girls online
the ones you keep fantasizing about
teasing you with every angle, giggle, moan
you touch yourself and she’s who you want oh and she smiles at the camera and
you smile back at her and
you love her she loves you back and
you finish.
and it wasn’t me,
it was the girl online.
the one that isn’t me.
and she’s like beautiful,
and i can’t blame you.
and i want to be one of the girls online.
I ll go download illegal games from illegal websites ,
get my location tracked and webcam hacked.
No pressure inside my chest it's just my wrecked head,
I wanna tear u apart and swallow these left over shreds,
Now it's just me and ur corpse,
Letting those webcam run, while putting the gun inside those fake buns.

In it’s magnificent cloak of colors.
Hypnotizing me from my deck.
Reminding me, to trust in God!
That no matter what people think,
His created world, is not a wreck!
Children are born, people do work!
But news paints the world as “ugly.”
We forget there is one leader here.
Invisible, and whose laws to follow.
News, tells us, lies galore and false
truths to follow.
The world will end when God decides
Tis so and not one second before.
Not by fear mongers, crawling all news
and websites.
So please do create beauty with your
pen, at sunset and at dawn.
Nor slam a door in a friendly poet’s
face.
Do not ignore old poet friends,if so~
What are you, in a comment race?
When we use our fellow poets as
make-believe friends.
Tis we, not countries, who are the true,
dark disgrace.
Arrogant,phony oligarchs with pens,
Who write of love, but cannot be true,
to love a poet to the very end!

What is this strange place we find ourselves in?
Trapped in the open- we are free within.
Somehow the norms we always saw as true-
have been displaced by those we're not used to.
Some rules we follow for our country's sake
no longer held as true, replaced as fake!
A new world order- now our leaders crave-
and yet, within we know we must stay brave.
Free speech, our Bill Of Rights, grants one and all
to speak our minds on all things large and small.
But now, we're punished to express known truth
as those in charge may deem as so uncouth.
The matrix we are asked to now uphold
defies our Constitution's clear-cut mold.
And so we find our ways to follow creeds
our Constitution verifies as needs.
The underground of free-speech websites grant
safe haven for we patriots who can't
express ourselves- the truths we still adhere
without the thought of being silenced-fear.
There, lives support for spreading freedom's spin-
trapped in the open- we are free within.
I wonder whether the well-known poets of yore
Read poems around a potbelly stove in a local store,
Whether they entered contests sponsored by a peer
Or discussed poetry with a friend over a cold beer?
Do you think Poe might have rewritten and revised,
To make his poems acceptable to an editor’s eyes?
Somehow, I think Nash was not oblivious to style
When he was writing light verse evoking a smile,
Before the days of television and visual entertainment
Writing a lengthy epic was a noteworthy attainment
Today’s editors encourage poetry that is quite concise
And poetry websites will print anything, isn’t that nice?
