Is it selfish
to want to be myself?
Even if that self
doesn’t care as much
as who I pretend to be?
Is it selfish
to want help
even though sometimes
I don’t want to help others?
Is it selfish
to be tired of being leaned on
like a tree holding stones?
Even if my trunk has bent
beyond repair?
Am I selfish?

On the road I try each guise,
Today I’ll meet them with new eyes.
Life has left me time to spare,
I bring some idleness to share.
Some may perish in this flame,
I live on gladly, all the same.
A boundless show, yet sweet refrain,
Their voice keeps singing out my name.
Are these feelings just in vain?
Still alone, to them I wend my way again.

If a parliamentarian votes yes,
Does he say A or Aye?
Can we trust that politician.
If instead he says AI?
Is he speaking tongue in cheek?
Is he confused, merging A and Aye
Or using a new form of double speak?
Might he be a historian
Lost in thoughts of Israel’s Ai?
When asked mother may I
Write my essay with AI
Whatever comes of AI
To a data dump say Aye
But an AI tome please deny
May it never meet the Eye!

In the picture you seemed far more fair,
Only smiling, only there.
Must it always be adorned attire?
Just behold the soul is there.
Not every moment is a dear one near,
Yet in the silence, she stands there.
In love, I’ve become like Huzaifa at last,
She rules the heights, her throne is there.
Peace itself has turned away from me,
Now let it be death or her, there.

When trying to grasp thoughts through our mind’s haze,
It’s like trying to escape a thought maze.
As the bits and pieces accumulate,
How will they connect, how will they relate?
We try to relate them to things we know.
Each thought should be placed right where it should go.
So many topics to assimilate,
We constantly add and have to update.
Without clear focus they may lose their flow,
By first burning to bright then losing their glow.
Without definition, they will not last,
Some good ideas will drift to the past.
Give each thought it’s time, make sure it’s defined,
It will be its best when finely refined.

SOLITARY RUN
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That morning, I set out for a solitary run noticing the clear blue sky with only a few wispy clouds floating by. The grass stood silent, the multi-colored leaves barely moving, looking as if they had been painted there. A faint touch upon my skin made me wonder, ‘Should a person be able to feel the beating of the birds’ wings?’ Time stopped, stretching endlessly in the quiet stillness.
silent, empty space
thoughts like seeds begin to sprout.
a voiceless whisper
births words upon the still air~
creativity takes flight
I sit, legs crossed, typing away
Doing homework, my hair uncombed
Listening to songs I don’t love but don’t hate
And I stare out the window and wonder,
Is there something more than this?
And my fingers type away
In a never-ending game
It’s raining. I feel nothing
Writing bad poems in the dark, and I wonder,
Is there more to me than this?
Procrastination, adrenaline, headphones,
Cell phones, whiteboards, deodorant,
Romance, hardback books, college, drama,
Movies, concerts, lectures, hormones,
And I wonder,
Is there more to youth than this?
My thoughts are scattered, my eyes unfocused
My brain stretched in five directions
And I don’t know who to be
Because we’re pebbles in a muddy stream
And in a world of distractions, 8 billion voices ask,
Is there more to life than this?
When instinct becomes
an educated guess
And improvisation
demands quick redress
Like thinking on one’s feet
if too drunk to stand
Be found all at sea
throwing up on dry land
Twisted situations
we find ourselves in
When bundles of joy
reek original sin
Smack on the butt
for showing a bit of cheek
Do everything perfect
be labelled a freak
Gestures, signals,
often appear to confuse
High five, fist bump
a sweaty handshake defused
One or two fingers:
the bird a sign of peace
Kneel with respect
submissive purr on a leash
Diversions, promises,
never black and white
Passive aggression
silent treatment for slight
Jack in the box, ripper
jumps out with a knife
Break a leg, for the
performance of his life
Police warning: never
mess around with guns
Gut reaction sparks a
stampede, or the runs
Playing it very cool,
whilst feeling much heat
Praying devoutly,
burnt at stake for deceit
Sticking out one’s tongue
in contempt, no a kiss!
Sigh of relief
they were just taking the piss
Such is living, such is death
come friend or foe
On second thoughts
syllabic verse, or sh!tshow
I've observed my thoughts
They naturally flow through my mind
Some true, some scripted
Some redundant, unkind
These are my memories, creating emotions
They're my unique experience in this life
Viewed from a platform
Sometimes exposing a neurological strife
We must turn through all the pages
Go beyond the human history of time
It is there we find the answers
Stamped in our ancestral climb
Like waves in the ocean
That relentlessly pounds the shore
The past flows through us
Like a stranger knocking at our door
We try to avoid this stranger
We’re frozen with fear
But the knocking keeps coming
Year after year
It's the ancestral sound
Of those who came before
Surprisingly, the noise lessens
When we open antiquities door
Now the waves begin to subside
As does the ancient battle in my mind
I become the true observer of the thoughts
They're clear and kind
SILK SERAPHS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
morning's fiery edge ascends~
kaleidoscopic procession of
pinks, blues, yellows catch my eyes.
above me, a fleet of silk seraphs
claim the cerulean sky,
sun's warmth igniting their ethereal sails.
the silk seraphs easily glide~
like dreamers across celestial skies,
they drift along effortlessly.
burners' gentle roar, a soothing serenade~
the ballonists soar in burnished metal baskets
while passengers wave as they pass by.
above quilted plains, tiny silk thrones reign~
like my wayward thoughts
they meander carefree.
the wind gently carries them higher aloft
then…..pooooof….they vanish.
magic comes with dawn’s first rays.

I struggle with what happens
To all the thoughts in my brain
Quickly moving becoming a blur
Just one I want to see one plain
Instead they bounce all around
Like marbles dropped on the floor
If they would slow down for me
I’d understand myself a little more
They won’t slow down even once
So I can get a good look at them
I’m confused by my own thoughts
They always make my head swim
If you can fathom what I’m saying
I’m not worried not many really do
But those who do or may share it
They know what I’m going through

Snow prevails in the realms of Otherworlds,
And moonlit mortals imagine light flight.
Bright pink faery orbs float and dance upward,
Spirals in song producing bright delights.
At times, thought considers the other side.
Dreaming in the moment bestows lessons.
A flame amplifies the insightful mind,
And we learn to breathe in our own heavens.
The depth of the forest brings us fresh breath
While we try to fly the stellar Cosmos,
Doing all that we can to keep our health
While sparkling moonlight plays its song and glows.
Venerable Oaks and Hazels reach high,
Grounded on Earth, yet, bound to Raven's eye!
