Stimuli Poems | Examples

per biology:

am i alive?
what classifies something as alive?

    respiration
i am breathing
but just barely
trying to capture any air i can between sobs
    growth
i am growing
it becomes increasingly difficult
recognizing myself in the mirror every day
and believing the next age i'm turning
    excretion
i am excreting
i sweat when i do pretty much anything
even though i'm always cold
is there something wrong with me?
or am i just overthinking again?
    reproduction
i am not reproducing
i can
but i'm not sure i want to
i wouldn't be a good mom
i'm worried i'd be too much like my own
    metabolism
i am metabolizing
i always claimed it to be fast but maybe
it's since it doesn't have much to work with
    movement
i am moving
my body does it without me knowing
or being conscious
it just moves
    response to stimuli
i am responding
i respond too much
too dramatically
too sensitively

i fit all the criteria
so i guess i am alive
i'm just not living

High-Minded

Smoking toking you must be joking
it's a bust I just don't need an altered sense
of time and space or on choking
a mind-numbing feeling of euphoria
as I am happy as a clam
(thank you ma'am)
for as you two while under the influence
of lethargy-inducing external stimuli
proceeded in search of smokeable weed
a.k.a., a whole lot of pot
a joint venture indeed
the words I heard by you bemoaned
when about to go driving were
'No left turn unstoned!'

Premium MemberYou Excite All My Senses

For Timothy Lee

You excite all my senses.
I happily lack any defenses
against stimuli your love dispenses.
Your ways lack false pretenses.
Whenever together, true joy commences.

Eyes, ears, taste, scents, touch -
all intoxicate me so much.
My heart and soul clutch
because our love grants such.
You are my sweet penuche.

Thoughts of me and you
paint a picture perfect view.
Our combination is love's brew
sweet seeped through and through.
Daily, love gifts us anew.

Poets are the sense, philosophers the intelligence of humanity. ~ Samuel Beckett

Line of enquiry: Newton’s First Law of Motion (Inertia): An object at rest stays at rest, and an object in motion stays in motion unless acted upon by an external force.

love is contagious
fall in love
and many suitors will crawl out of the worn woodwork
a plethora of choices
confusing and so tempting
their motivation puzzling
spurred on by the common herd mentality
similar to following the politician who embraces pseudo-science
they do not have brakes

if you do not love
everything
and everyone seem hostile
escaping to your private abditory
might protect you from hurtful experience
but like a mixed metaphor
an implicature will lead to a pratfall
requiring others to mop up after you
your inertia inevitably noted

interaction with others
forms groundwork
for relationships
the external stimuli
essential for the development of empathy
open heart and mind
as a stagnant entity just cannot grow
but happily balter through the cobbled streets of life
validate your existence

My Yin and my Yang are at odds with one another
I place the blame for my Oedipus Complex squarely on the shoulders of my mother
I cannot be held responsible for the mistakes I make each day
The flaws in my character are baked into my DNA.

Maslow's Hierarchy establishes priorities from which I cannot change
My interpretation of Rorschach's inkblots suggest I am deranged
I respond to certain stimuli much the same as Pavlov's dog
I hear voices from inside my head but cannot follow the dialogue.

Schrodinger's cat may be dead or alive, the same is true for my libido
Sigmund Frued would say that is because my Id is subservient to my Super-Ego
I am sorry but our time is up, according to the clock upon the wall
You integrated some of my personalities, but you did not get them all.

Idiot savants

Go and gather up the known affiliates.
We're gonna build a village of idiots.
We gotta make sure this gets crazy.
"Getting out of hand" to me is just lazy.
Had our fill of tastless "pain et cirque".
Contorting dough into a shape won't work.
Hunting down cerebral stimuli.
We got the time to kill but it won't die.
Gonna paint this town the bloodiest of red.
A thin veneer of all the living dead.
Choking to death on the lives they've led.
Infected by the many lies wide-spread.
Blunt force persuasion you beg us to stop.
As we eyeball the pyramidal top.

It's "for the greater good" just "flattening the curve".
Please you must excuse our unabated verve.
Treating us like pets you got a whole lotta nerve.
We're the only cure you will ever deserve.
We got the hunger and we're coming for a taste
Won't be over until you resemble paste.
So we're disposable? now look who's a waste.
Editing the gene pool til your bloodlines erased.
Illuminati, elimination.
Very soon to be a not so Freemason.
More than welcoming your depopulation.
No political parties bring celebration.
The "ruling class" now holding no dominion.
Truly free no longer an unwilling minion.

Grounded

Writing a poem keeps me grounded;
It’s what I accomplish each day.
With stimuli I am surrounded,
Providing so much I can say.

Responding to Nature’s inspiring
As well as the news that that I read,
For what in the world is transpiring
Often gives me the push that I need.

My family and friends keep me going,
The grandkids a source of delight,
Supplying me, as they are growing,
With endless incentives to write.

But mostly, my poems are revealing
Of sentiments trapped in my brain,
Which, written in rhyme, tap each feeling
I otherwise couldn’t explain.

If light is the fastest thing in the universe,
why is darkness already there when light arrives?

After watching Harry and Megan Sussex grub for ever more cash and attention, I’ve decided that they should start a OnlyFans site.

We’re going to a booze-free dance party.
“You don’t have to drink to have fun.” I assure myself, in the bathroom mirror, but somehow the event sounds like a high school dance.

I’ve been reading the Internet - was it really a giant squid that sank the Titanic?

...

Panpsychism Is a scientific theory postulating that consciousness is part of the fabric of the Universe.

On the theological level, why would God (or nature) create the bitter taste of espresso and vivid, azure skies slashed with rainbow sunsets if stimulating consciousness weren’t important?

“Colors, tastes and smells are no more than names,” Galileo declared 400 years ago. “(as perceptions) they reside only in consciousness.”

Does life exist, as sensors, to experience stimuli for the galactic consciousness?

Today on our morning dog walk in the hills
I use my wife
for a role she’s supremely suited for,
a reflective foil for my own psycho-analytical musings.
And with her just uttering a judicious word or two
I discover this;

figuring out which comes first,
impulsive or compulsiveness,
is a bit like the chicken or egg question,
but since it’s obvious it’s the egg
I’ll hazard the guess, compulsion comes before impulse
(the habit to act and respond to stimuli).
But then before or more basic than this physical reflex
comes a general disregard for taking things seriously
(the emotional attitudinal coping mechanism if not skill),
which in turn is based on the most basic ground of ignorance;
willfully ignoring consequences, situational awareness, and thus reality itself.

Here I discover the root of the problem.

I thank my wife for her silent session,
and she, tactfully, doesn’t respond
by presenting a bill.

At this point my running tab is approaching infinite.
I think they call that, “priceless.”

To Be An Adorable Man

Men having something high qualities
Should be looking like these pics
Both the upper and the lower should be
Capable of making women feel happy

To be able to attract a woman to miss
You love to utter words being felt, sweetie
You could satisfy their needs for strong stimuli
While matching the romantic hearts intermediately

I have recognized the importance of these qualities
But some are determined genetically
Come on buddies to have you qualified to be men
You must listen to my excellent instructions

Biggest Secret and Biggest Challenge

I
Before Jesus I loved Veda and Vairagya
Detach here, attach to Transcendental there
Practice with people, prophesying Jesus:
Do not JUDGE. But how to avoid such?

II
Buddhism bestowed the key, as Paul
Did in Epistles. Reading Romans 12
"Renew your mind, do not conform -
Be transformed." Mindfulness my gain
And complaint: I ought to see, sense, hear
Still not put labels to lots of stimuli? No

III
Yes, I fail. Especially education is
All about labels and labeling: no name
Means we have no handle. So why not
Go on doing life without labeling? Alone;
Is the only way. Detach, then attach:
I tried once with a prof. "I won't tell
My name. You'll forget anyway." Youth!

The Missing Shade

Is the self
“a mere bundle
of perceptions”

If Hume’s right,
are the rest of us
wrong

When stimuli exits,
do we then
disappear

Existence abeyant,
too weak
—to live on

Uplift the Beauty By a Sensitive Heart

Attracted by the symbolical life
 I can admire...
  Something different and unseen
That with my eyes I immediately feel...

I'll see more
  Than anyone anticipated
I'm the opposite of plain and simple..
     Complex and intricate..
I'll question the eternity of a undefined reality

I'll create..
  The many plausible interpretations
They'll be touched by My soul and heart
        Through the millions of stimuli...
         I elaborate truly fully...

It's my passion
           To look and encounter
            I'm destined to look further
            To what others may miss
I'll be giving it the highly sensitive bliss
              I'll be Initiating it's beauty
                   To an deeply immeasurable degree...
It makes me feel so free.
