The air slowly fills
with curly pungent wafts of steam
billowing up from a
hot freshly brewed cup of coffee.
Raising the baton to
conduct the dawn chorus
of bird songs and plans
mulled to begin.
I love to see and feel
the ringlet tufts of steam
getting up my nose, blurring and
opening up my eyes,
like a curtain raise,
to conduct the symphony to begin.
The trills and tweets,
chirps and cheeps,
whistles and trills,
caws and chortles,
are all entwined and garnered
in the first sips, of the first cuppa,
taken at wake of day.
The steam and songs
unspool a cotton thread of
memories and reflections,
hopes and fears,
to be weft, warped,
shuffled and shuttled,
through the loom
to weave the coming day.

Sloth’s Steaming Sin
Sluggishness slitters solely straightforward
Sedentary survival styles scold, strain
Self-centeredness - sloth’s shinning standard
Squandering silvers… spiritual sprain

One look at a map ought to have shown
What politicians ought to have known
Yet not one would say
Its foolish to lay
Oil pipeline in an earthquake-prone zone!

steaming sidewalks
terrorizing cats and dogs
injuring their paws
my shirt is soaked
sweat running down my back

i yearn for her breeze

STEAMING NOSTRILS, RIP-ROARING LOUD
you know a great movie when you press your own palm
over your mouth, eyes pop, breath rasps
open the gates, all of them

I have loved
And I have turned away
From steaming love
Brought fourth upon a silver platter
But then he served me seconds on gold
With sparkling sensuous diamonds
Just for me to say
Surely this time
You have gone and done it
Tipping the scale of mediocrity
did you hope I'd dance with conformity?
While you rest snug with my love.

Florida’s steaming sun comes into play
Even on the joyful Easter Sunday
An Easter basket prepared with great care
Wee Wendy eats before saying a prayer
In ninety-degree heat
Ah, the taste’s so sweet
Blonde it once was, but now brown is her hair
Li’l Adam tore through his basket too fast
Chocolate bunnies and eggs downed in a flash
His folks had hoped the Easter treats would last
But to the bathroom, Adam had to dash

Whole and Steaming
Dingle, Ireland
The bathroom carpet,
wall to wall, is blue,
the lightest blue,
to complement
the bowl and ceiling.
Apropos the moment:
I bend the waist
and heave the gristle
from last evening's steak.
Tomorrow I shall row again
to see those ancient men
in caps and coveralls
stand like statues
while they talk
and tap gold embers
now and then
from clay pipes
forever glowing.
I'll go there
at the dinner hour
and see them once again
fork potatoes,
whole and steaming,
from big kettles filled
at dawn by crones
forever kerchiefed
and forever bent.
At dawn you hear
the women
like a choir
sing their hymns
a cappella
as they genuflect and dip
big black kettles
in the sometimes still
sometimes foaming sea.

Everyone has a steaming bowl of sadness
A bucket of tears
But mine is coated with madness
And sprinkled with fears
We all get one pot
For every sad thing
We cry without thought
For no cheerful bells ring
They keep coming and coming
We can't make them stop
We try running and running
Like robber from cop
But we just can't get away
They just won't go
The tears are to pay
For what we don't know
Every bowl will hit like one big barge...
But I think mine is two sizes too large

A train steamed away tonight
Taking you away from me
I arrive at the station too late
To find you gone with the wind's tale
With your forgotten scarf in my hand
I tried to fly to your new land

Watching the leader through my destroyer’s, Big Eyes
Waiting for signal to execute maneuver
The flashing light comes. “Execute!” my talker cries.
The bridge responds, slowing speed and shifting course
Twenty ships simultaneously make course east
As headings steady, I await the next command
The formation’s wakes clawing the sea like a beast
Another light, I shout the leader’s next demand
These types of close maneuverings, are tricky things
One wrong signal could result in a collision
I rub my eyes, below the engine order rings
Another signal and we dance in precision
Maintaining the columns, we plow, south, south east
All anticipating our next liberty feast
