With a stiff upper lip and old school tie
still it's just not cricket
but the upper crust they say
are on a sticky wicket
to pay the estate or make ends meet
they have conducted tours
of stately homes safari parks
and the family jewels
we used to go to Scarborough Southend-on-Sea
Bognor Brighton Blackpool
have fish 'n' chips for tea
but now for fifty pee we natter
with a Duchess or the Duke
for half a quid a cuppa
with a true blue-blooded bloke
as they're all skint like me and you
there's not a lot a poor Lord can do
but bite the bullet and enjoy
hobnobbing with the hoi polloi
in
field

Delicate petals on stately stalks sway in the breeze,
sweet, scented nectar attracts hummingbirds and bees.
I watch them while sipping iced tea in my lawn chair,
Snapdragons adorn my garden with a decorative flair.
They're not fire-breathing blooms, standing in sunlight,
proudly displaying a variety of colors, bold and bright.
They grace my walkways in the seasons, spring and fall
as floral sentinels they greet me, standing lordly and tall.

flowers
dancing gaily
on taller slender stalks
wave to us passing cheerily,
planted to color up gray garden walks
remembering how merrily
they'll light up our way

The tree was wracked with age, disease
her branches missing bark and leaves
Chill rains attacked -- it coughed, it wheezed
Resistance gone, what good to grieve
Once tall and stately, proud to be
the loveliest of maple trees
Her sap flowed rich throughout the Fall
Delicious treat for one and all
So sad to see a landmark die
Enough to make a grown man cry

Here is a stately nook
in various degrees of wear;
Flowers, shells, and myriad designs
grace o'er our good old books.
~Stately Southern Mansions~
(Senryu Suite)
Stately pretty homes
Some beautiful still today
Relics from the past
Still a Southern pride
If their wall could only talk
What secrets could tell
Standing some still tall
Nice historical mansions
Jewels from the past
Trees so grand and lush
Surround them all 'round
Elegant stately grounds
Pretty as picture
Much loved and desired today
Historic delight.

Elm once clad in gold
Has shed its colorful cloak
Awaits winter storms
Bare limbs lifted heavenward
As if in supplication.

Oh, how beautiful you are
waving on your stem
a perfect picture
to behold
Your attar floods my senses
so sweet and fragrant
deep musky scents
that beguile me
Your hips full and plump
rose water or tea I make
or rose scones to eat
a chocolate I savour
Standing in stately splendour
full blooms reaching skyward
I pluck one so that its
perfume I can extract
How can I not admire thee
as you climb up a wall
or smother a fence
with wonderful blooms
You creep alone the ground
or soar high into the sky
stand upright in beauty
you have it all to show
So many colours
all different hues
Rose, I worship thee
as my soul you delight

contest Roses, Roses, Roses
Atlantic City has many a stately pleasure dome.
Will your money go to the tables or the machines?
Either way, there will be losing scenes.
It seems like your money has no home.
Down to Atlantic City you will always go.
You place frivolous bets in the casino.
Your money dissipates just like the sea foam.
With every seven out or dealer’s twenty-one,
your money just goes. That isn’t fun.
You will never win a race in that hippodrome.
You lose your money, and you lose it fast.
Good luck is a fickle thing. It will not last.
To the nearby pawn shop you frequently roam.
You constantly put up your things for a loan.
They have just about everything you own.

red oak stately grows
twenty foot high drop acorns...
roundup works daily
Fair as ever he doth ride
Alas to meet his gal
as she prepares to be his bride.
He draws back a drink with an old pal
they discuss their days gone stall
time drifts by, the bride feels faintly
in worry, her grooms last prodigal
A man who's thought most stately
On clock tower's side
he glares in wow
to realize what time passed by
he thinks of lies, of where and how
he decides to blame the herd of cow
"they just stood there so blankly"
he thinks to himself, ok, no worries for now
A man who's thought most stately
Up to her abode he doth stride
she rushes to him in the snow
"You are too late" she shoots his pride
with her most powerful blow
"No excuse for you not to show!"
"Our wedding day? you forgot and left me there sedately"
"why I oughtta feed you to the crows"
A man who's thought most stately
Prince, not so
for this young man, here lately
for he was sent, and told to go!
