A shiny glass on the wall
reflected an image back at me.
I would avoid it
leery of spotting
a stranger peering at me.
I would often look and ponder
is that what they see
when they look at me?
Avoiding it was so simple,
easier than reality.
I now see
my reflection back at me,
was the first me,
not the one hiding within.
The world already knew
the One I tried to subdue....

full of leather-bound books and tied up comics.
Luckily they weren't dusty; I'm asthmatic,
dad scored them cheap base on street economics
but my recall’s somewhat melodramatic.
But for years, leery of Russian atomics
I would hide in the attic; my special place,
and read a book, from Shakespeare to outer space.
