The paper moon starts to glow
on a painted cardboard scene
when love truly starts to flow.
Now we know that you trust me,
I let the string puppets go
for an opening night's spree
beyond the play's make-believe.
You stay here, you're gonna die. Not all at once, but little by little. Eventually, you'll become as hollow as I am.*
Wished upon a falling star,
tried to catch the rainbow’s end,
bought all kinds of lucky charms,
but love always passed me by
outside the place where I dwell
in perpetual dreaming
under a torn paper moon.

Cutting out a paper moon,
now in April not in June.
Eating ice cream with a spoon,
seeing TV moon at noon.
Now gluing it will dry soon,
to make a funny cartoon.
Paper moon is a balloon.
it’s only a paper moon,
a near-invisible pulse~
a shimmer felt, not witnessed,
light unbound from its own shape,
vibration more than presence,
known only as it quivers~
a hush brushing through the soul.
sometimes it's hard to be a bard

Louis worked the door

The moon is full, my heart is too
Overflowing with love for you
It's cold outside, but not inside
Your warmth is spreading far and wide
It flows through me, controlled yet free
Eyes closed or open you're all I see
And one day soon let's watch that moon
Together, while Ella sings the tune
The medic said put on these knickers
By golly they caused me loud snickers
Featuring a butt flap
They are truly mad cap
Not ‘cut out’ for tea at the Vicars!
Some people would term them ‘moon panties’
Their massive like those of my aunties
You may not want to spoon
When panties show a ‘moon’
These truly are not ladies scanties!

A crumbled dim paper moon that lit
Once held boldly and so brilliant
Stars envied the greatness of its tone
The light it carried upon her throne
Unrivaled descendants overthrown
It’s fans now scattered scarsly shown
And complicated applause outgrown
Across the universe parts well known
Penetrated precious and shaded stone
Shadowed darkest blackest chrome
Excited Planetary galaxies composed
Orchestrated melodic yellow hues of gold
Causing chaotic verses spun postpone
Plans weaved fabricated undertone
The layered ancient voices transposed
Executes carved sacred deep baritone
I wished upon a paper moon

and fell among the stars
Was whisked away to somewhere good
a place just where you are
Along a winding riverbed
below a willow tree
With fireflies to light the way,
a path for you and me
We laughed as if the world were new
amazed within this scene
Of lily pads and dragonflies
the two of us did dream
Holding hands and skipping stones
the ripples came to shore
Magically they disappeared
as we called out for more
Reflections on the water played
in wavering design
You pointed to the middle
where a heart shape you did find
And then you whispered in my ear
my wish had now come true
Out here beneath this paper moon
in love, just me and you

Truth, well hidden in this light,
Dances with the wolves, at night
You chase the paper moon
