Montague Middleton’s matronly mother made marvellous munchy meringues
Montague Middleton’s most massive midriff made many a menu mistake
Montague Middleton met many maidens; Mother made mincemeat of most
Montague Middleton’s mother maintained, “Men mustn’t marry Miss ‘Fake’.”

Montague Middleton met Molly Milton, many men ‘met’ Molly more
Montague Middleton married Melissa; so many mad moans Molly made
Montague Middleton’s most massive mansion made more modest mansions mundane
Montague Middleton moved Molly in, making Molly both mistress and maid

Montague Middleton’s missus made many mouthwatering munchies
Montague Middleton’s missus made Monty’s mouth moisten most days
Montague Middleton’s missus met Molly, mentioning marital meddling
Montague Middleton’s mischievous mistress mocked Melissa’s malaise

So:

Montague Middleton murdered his missus
Montague Middleton married his mistress

But:

Montague Middleton made a mistake
For Montague Middleton’s mistress
Can’t bake

Premium Member Scarlett Middleton

We did not like Scarlett in middle school.
We did not like her in high school.
But our mothers were friends.
So were stuck pretending to like her.

I reminded my sister of this when she said
Guess who moved in to the next block?
SCARLETT MIDDLETON!
I nearly split my pants laughing.

You say that as if it is a good thing!
We used to like her, my sister said.
She has obviously forgotten.
I kept quiet.

They got together with their husbands.
My sister said it was the most boring time they had ever had.
Her husband said “never again”.
Now do you remember? We were forced to be her friend.
My sister had forgotten, but she remembered now.

Rain-Middleton

Rain pouring on pubs
Grey cotton weaving up high
Sprinkling on churches

A Rose With No Thorns

A rose with no thorns

As soft an open as a rose with no thorns. Although the past have created some, I can not see them and I can not feel them. My petals wilt and I decompose and find nutrients in the soil. And I bloom.

A Little Boy’s gun with a barometric trigger,
showed a Fat Man how to
blot out an Empire’s rising sun.
Proliferation’s need pushed
Sellafield and Kyshtym to trip chasing Manhattan.
Twenty two years later and just
three miles south of Middleton,
failed safe assurances lied again and signed
Pripyat’s some thousands years lease that left
eighteen billion rubles around one elephant’s foot.
Fukushima’s seven year menses – Pacific stained –
west coast tide pool colors an invasive green
as Chinook escapements fill five year graves.
Intractable cesium hangovers bleed MOX cocktails
Nostrils blowing bubbles over damned lips
fused to the tit of a beast we can’t tame.

Poor Hannah

Hannah Adderley jumped with a wail
from the clifftop at Middleton Dale
but her petticoats cute
made a great parachute
for a soft landing, wow! What a tale!

(Hannah, of Stoney Middleton, Derbyshire, had been jilted at the altar
and although her suicide attempt was a failure she died of natural causes
 two years later in 1764)

Premium Member Curse of Middleton

Upon a fleeing
Man, the curse of Middleton
Raven kept an eye
On his ill begotten path
Terrible fate crosses him

He saw the horrid
Unthinkable truth of past
Of a man who killed
For fun, left his place of rest
Now runs free to curse again

How he fears this ghost
For he murdered families
While they’re in their sleep
Dreaded evil of the town
Is free to frighten again

The raven watches
And sure sees his every move
The man knows time’s short
The ghost will be upon him
And the curse will be complete

The curse imposes
That the man who found evil
Will carry the soul
Of the raven, to do more
Of the murders as before

Now he must warn all
That live in this humble town
What comes this dark night
So they can prepare for him
And cast his soul to darkness
