Kim (one of my BFF) brightened with inspiration, “Oooo! Send him a sexy pic!”
“I’m NOT going to sext a guy out of the BLUE,” I grumbled, indignantly.

Kim turned to her phone, “No, No, of COURSE not.” She said as she texted.

“Come on” she said, as she pulled me off my chair and out the door. We raced over, on foot, to my friend Bili’s house (two houses away). We entered without knocking (as usual) and ran upstairs.

Bili lay on her stomach on her unmade bed, fiddling with her phone, ankles up and crossed but she twisted up to attention when we came in.
“What should we do first?” She said, as if there were a million things to do.

They set upon me and had my regular clothes off in a heartbeat. Like all makeovers, this had a prelapsarian purity - the ritual stripping down to blankness before rebuilding.

They quickly went through about half of Bili’s closet - selecting just the right combination of trashy and classy clothes designed to seduce.

They finally settled on a black slip under an ivory peignoir, stockings with garters and black strappy heels.

Kim twisted my hair up into a loose “Gibson Girl.”

“Hold still,” Bili said, as she grasped my chin and expertly blended red, gold and black glittery eyeshadows followed by lip liner and gloss. “This is just a quickie job,” she reminded me.

I stared at this strange version of myself in the vanity.

Kim frowned and looking around, she spread a pink scarf over the desk light to give the room a rosy glow. They went into studio mode - posing me in various ways from coquettish to bored lounging - suggesting expressions and taking endless pictures with my phone.

Finally, they were satisfied and handed me my phone.
“Shall we go through them?” Bili asked

“Naah,” I said, “I’ll go through ‘em and pick one - or two.”

Later, at home, I looked through them - I looked SO different - and I had to admit - sexy even. But was that ME? I cringed, what if my mom saw these trashy, Kardashian-like photos somewhere?

I never sent them. I thought I’d have to explain it to my girls.
“HA!” They laughed, “We KNEW you’d never use ‘em” Bili said, as Kim shook her head “Nope.”
“It was fun though!” We all agreed.

NOTE: This is a pre-pandemic story from August 2019. I was 15 - the idea wasn’t to seduce this guy, it was to get his interest so he would ask me out . =]

I'm not sure how it all began,
When this soothsayer became heroic to some.
As he molded a story of greatness,
Against what our nation has now become.

Those that listened were mesmerized by his fable,
As he wove a tale of conspiracy and doubt.
Then his minions spread the veil of shadows,
To every corner with whispers they could shout.

Almost miraculously, this mirage became a leader,
Beginning a reign that some wish to forget.
But his actions won't be lost to history,
Since the aftermath lives on to regret.

Early on in his term of division, the
Tactics would erode basic trusts once held high.
Such that... we are a nation made up almost entirely of
Non-natives, yet that must stop, & he'll build a wall with lies.

Soon after, attacks were focused on the media,
As 'fake news' ran rampant in the press.
While the mouthpieces, such as, Hannity and Tucker,
Provided his message to the ignorant, more or less.

It wasn't long before this infection on credibility,
Attacked our very own intelligence community next.
Because ol' 45 would disparage the CIA & others,
Preferring Kim Jong and Putin's rhetoric and text.

Now to be fair, he did accomplish something...
A huge tax-cut that the wealthy endorsed.
So while the rich got richer, the melody sang loudly,
While the poverty of others was reinforced.

Throughout this one-term the primary focus,
Seemed to be undoing everything his predecessor had done.
Now while most of these efforts were negated,
The passionate pursuit gave himself, so much fun.

The ongoing hatred towards Obama and Hilary,
Was a constant theme in the Trump-laden White House.
Lending fuel to the fire of partisan politics, while
Staff and contemporaries posed quietly as a mouse.

The end of this pathetic term was filled with failure,
As dual impeachments and the lost election were to blame.
Followed by legal matters that consumed a nation,
As proud followers were jailed in his name.

Yet the MAGA minority spread far & wide to the horizon,
Where vocal women shamelessly sought his favor to gain.
So between Marjorie, Lauren, and Kari...
Their BDE chorus was tuned to deny any pain.

While conducting this orchestra of disaster,
A nation held hostage, sought truth in the wake.
To the point where regardless of convictions or pardons,
Our Constitution and democracy, will not be proven fake.

Spiritual Strategies For Trump Times

We're in the midst of trump times and
We need to understand
That that individual in the White House
Is not a righteous man
He's all about division, discord
And disarray
And when a domestic terror act occurred
He did not have much to say
White nationalists staged a rally to keep
A confederate statue in place
No regard and no respect for any other
Ethnicity nor any other race
A group of anti- protesters were in a
Peaceful march as well
Until a nationalist in a car mowed them down
Causing utter hell

We're in trump times the country's
Moral barometer has done a reverse
We're in trump times trust and believe
It can only get worse
Threats against the North Koreans
Who are launching potential weapons to kill
Instead of using diplomacy
Trump wants to assert his will
On the precipice of what could
Possibly become world war 3
What should we do?
What are our spiritual strategies?

One, we would do well to accept
The invitation from Christ our Savior
To worship, witness and walk
With a Christlike behavior
We need God to remind us
That we are not alone
And never ever forget that its He
Who sits on the throne
God is in charge He's still in control
Hopefully He'll work on presidents
Trump and Kim Jong Un souls

Two, we need gather together in
Remembrance of He
Jesus the Christ who died
To give us the victory
To eat of the bread and drink of the wine
Remnants of His body and blood
To examine our own hearts
And acknowledge His unconditional love
To stay in touch with reality
To remember our past and our pain
Of the slavery that is still on American
A badge of shame

Let us never forget
what has come to pass
Let us never forget Jesus
and the love for us He has
For when we remember we reestablish
All truths and how they came to be
And no tweet will erase nor change
The true reality

Trump talks about fake news
But free press will prevail
As only free press stops a nation from
Becoming a dictatorship from hell

Spiritual strategies for trump times
We need to realize
We need to stay united
And keep our eyes on the prize
Let us never forget the blood
That was shredded and the sacrifice
Let us never forget that for our sins
Jesus gave His life
Let us look past skin color
And ignore race
Let us remember God
Who gave us His infinite
Mercy and Grace

Premium Member Dorie - Fv

Born Doris, named for our grandmother Doris Owens,
she is nothing much like grandma.
If anything, I am more like grandma
for my thrifty ways and down-to-earth practicality.

Doris, nicnamed Dorie, how we tease her when we hear
her name like the name of the spaced-out fish on “Finding Nemo.”
Dorie, who we teased as a child because she always dawdled,
always losing track of time; we never could guess why!
In that way, she never was like me, but was more like Dory
from “Finding Nemo.”

Dorie, who like me, is long-nosed and full-bosomed
and of all my sisters, has the most in common with myself.
Dorie, who got confused for me, particularly by our grandma,
the woman after whom Dorie had been named!
Dorie, who got to be the cheerleader I failed to be
but who majored in my field and never got to work as a teacher.
Instead she works today in a place for special needs adults,
working many hours now that she is divorced.
Dedicated, hard-working, studious and conscientious -
in those ways Dorie is the most like me
of all my other sisters.

Who else but Dorie would write me back 40 to 50-page letters
back in the day when all we had was snail mail!
My letters to Dorie I copied off each month as a record
of my hectic life when I was young in college and
also when I was dealing with my new role as a mother.

Dorie, my writing soul mate sister, who probably
does not write much any more and I doubt that she writes poetry!
She is busy working up to 60 hours a week!
But when she writes, her emails are long and detailed
just like mine.

Dorie, in whom I gradually saw differences from me.
More emotional, more hormonal, more maternal -
this is Dorie. More religious and in politics,
the opposite of me.
Despite all that, we love to chat.
We laugh and laugh, as I do with all my other sisters.

Dorie, who like our youngest sister Theadora,
shares with me a fascination for things such as nutrition,
all three of us sharing with each other our recipes
fitness hints, and special ways to boost metabolism!

Dorie, the sister who Mom says "leapt with joy"
inside our mother’s womb right before Mom went into labor
just for hearing the voice of me, her oldest sister.
I love all my sisters equally, but for many reasons,
Dorie is the sister most like me!

True Talk Heals

True talk heals,
When someone speaks,
The truth about my small mistakes
As human being ,
I feel much comfortable.
When someone speaks lies
About what I did not say or do,
I feel so downhearted.

Speaking the truth is my best drink
And I am addicted to it.
I have been hated ,
                    Attacked,
                       Ill-treated,
                           Excluded,
                            Challenged,
                                    Tortured,
                                      Terrorised,
                                          Persecuted,
For speaking the truth on social media
And face to face dialogues.

Meeting of man with
Man generates nix,
Meeting of woman with
Woman gives  nothing,
Meeting of man with
Woman produces Children.

How do you expect to get a future king or queen of England when men with men or women with  women
marry each other?
Imagine when a top  leader forces some people to do what he"she" can not do.
The scripture says ,
                                  " Multiply on Earth"
reason why
 Presidents,
            Kings,
             Queens,
               Princes,
                  Princesses
Don't marry
               gays

Joe  Biden,
     King Charles III,
       Emmanuel Macron,
                Vladimir  Putin,
                Jacob Zuma,
            Cyril Ramaphosa,
                Yuheri Museveni,
                       Barack Obama,
                                     Xi Jinping,
                     Mndala Chimbalanga II,
                                        Kim Jong-un
Are happy to be  fathers
Because they have wives.
Some African countries were  imposed
Some laws which seemed  useless to them
And continued to obey what God said
in the scripture,
                           " Multiply on Earth"

I don't think same - sex marriage
To be part of the  British
Culture and traditions
Because there is no King
                               or Queen
                               or Prince
                               or Princess
Of that royal traditional house
Who did such Marriage in their history.

Hope this truth
Will heal many
People on earth.
 I love you all.

Strong For Too Long

You've been sitting in the dark
Wondering for so long.

It's been forever
Since you started feeling so alone
Drowned by the voices
And haunted by the demons

A happy facade
Is all it took
To have others believe you were fine

You couldn't look so sad
If your job was to be so happy
To have the fans worry
Was the last thing you wanted

You were caughdtt in the nothingness
And your lyrics said it all
Your voice screamed out
Through the meanings behind the words
And through the music videos

But the thing is
You've been fighting on for so long
All the pressure they've brought upon you
All the words of reassurance
That never did anything
But add to it all

You've battled through depression
And your words; the lyrics
Were things you wanted said to you

All you wanted
Was to be told you worked hard
To be told you did well
You wanted others to notice

And you never really hid it.
You never saw the point
You always showed it because you believed
There was no point
In being fake happy three hundred and sixty-five days a year

You believed that people should know you
For who you were
You shouldn't be showing off a fake you
Because it got tiring

You were a role model and inspiration to many
You were a brother, a colleague, a friend and one of the best people to walk this earth.

Many will miss you
Many will remember you
But nobody will forget you
And the impact you've left
Not only on your group
But on the world

You were kind
And funny
And gentle
And weird
You were all or nothing
And that's what we loved

You were a bright soul
That changed many
Your voice was a voice others went to
When seeking reassurance, hope, happiness, cheering up and when they just needed to escape when they just felt numb
You were our go to
When things got tough

Your voice was something special
But you were something more

You've held on for so long
You've been strong for too long
And now, today, 18th of December 2017
You've left the world

But you've changed us too
You've opened our minds
And our hearts
And hopefully the world's too.

Thank you for existing, Kim Jonghyun and may you rest in peace.

[ A poem dedicated to Kim Jonghyun, a Korean singer from the group SHINee. May he rest in peace and may his fellow members and family cope well. They are in many's prayers.]

Scented Leaves

INSPIRED BY “SCENTED LEAVES” CONTEST SPONSPORED BY KIM RODRIGUES

Aromatic avenues with the scent of your perfume
Lingering on each leaf you grace with your presence
Those delicate feet treading the petalled pathways of his heart
Enticing a new spring in the Autumn of his life

Autumn

A cold bleak reminder of the rains that are still yet to fall
And yet, he sees the smile that your soul wears just for him
And the seeds are sown in the depths of his heart
A heart that he thought no longer beat
A heart that he no longer wanted to beat
Because a beating heart can bleed
Faster
Harder
Making him weak

He is a man

He cannot afford to be weak

He must be strong
He must prepare for torrential downpours
He must retain his shelter
His armour
He must not wear a smile for you

“He will not!” he tells himself.

Yet somehow those scented leaves make him forget himself
And it’s Spring again
And he dons a secret smile
You intoxicate his senses and he wants to indulge in you more
He needs you. Craves you.
He loves it
He hates it
He no longer knows what to feel

Trapped

His tortured pragmatic mind
Wrestling with a drunken heart
Wanting to be loved
Afraid of what will become of him
If love walks away

So, he aspires to become love
That way he gets to be the one to walk away
He will love you a little
And discard of you a lot
He will maintain control
Control of himself
Control of his fears
At least
That is what he thinks

YOU

With the look of adventure in your crystal blue eyes
And your aromatic fragrance of freedom
Wafting, as you inhabit all who inhale your inner beauty

It’s a scent that lingers

You are that scent
The smell of what could have been
He will forever wear it
Carry it in his heart
Or his mind –
Whichever wins at the end of each dreary day

Now Autumn is not just a reminder of death
Of life
It is a reminder of death
Of love

Still those aromatic avenues are filled with the scent of your perfume
Lingering on each leaf you once graced with your presence
Those indelicate feet trampling the putrid pathways of his hardened heart
Enticing a new harsher winter in the awful Autumn of his lonely life

Midnight Aurora
November 12th 2019

To My Family

I stay up all night thinking
About the entire day
How to make things different
To stop being afraid

I wish I could reach out and call
I know they really love me
They want to know about my life
But I don’t think they’ll see

My life is different from before
This I do agree
But who I am and was before
I’m closer now to free

There are things that I must change
To have peace and to be
All I’ve ever dreamed of
Living and feeling free

I’ve found my mate, my lover
My family, my best friend
He’s older and he’s different
On him, I do depend

Our love is real and true and kind
He needs me, I need him
My family doesn’t accept me now
They’ve judged him on a wim

How do I live my life
Without my mom and dad
I know they want the best for me
But what they do is bad

They always expect the worst of me
And show me no trust too
Despite the path I’ve laid till now
It doesn’t matter what I do

I’m proud of who I have become
A person honest and true
Why can’t they just be happy now
Sit back and watch how I grew

They created who I am in part
Their job is now to see
That I will choose my life and dreams
And who I want to be

I’m thankful and appreciate
All that they have done
And want them to believe in me
And trust my life’s begun.

I’m estranged now from my brother
His wife and his family
My best friend Kim is worried
Of the life that I lead

They think that I have chosen bad
And not fulfilled my dreams
Assuming this about my life
Without consulting me

I wrote these words to express
How I feel to them
I hope that they will listen
And that acceptance will begin

I want them to stop assuming
Always the negative and the worst
And believe I can be happy
Help me lift my bad luck curse

I know it may be hard
To accept Charlie
But they will have to try this now
As he is part of me

If only they would give themselves
The chance to know him well
A person with a soul they’d love
If they could only tell

I hope my parents find a way
To understand my life
If they can’t accept me now
Stab me with a knife

This is how important you are
My beloved family
So can we please start over now, fresh and anew
This will make me happy
And Charlie wants this too

I need you with me by my side
In my life I do.
I love you and I miss you much
I hope you feel this too.
