To My Justin

To My Justin

In the garden of my heart, I’ve wandered wide,
Through paths of many men, I sought a guide.
With dreams of Mr. Right, I danced in the night,
But each time I was wrong, lost in the light.

Yet here you stand, my prince, my knight,
In your arms, I’ve found my truest delight.
You’re the hero of my story, the calm in my storm,
With you, my love, I’ve finally found my form.

Without you, dear Justin, I’d drift and I’d sway,
You’re the anchor that keeps my fears at bay.
Though you drive me to madness, with quirks that confound,
In the chaos of love, it’s you I have found.

One moment I’m fuming, wanting to choke,
Then laughter erupts, and I’m wrapped in your cloak.
You see through my layers, my heart laid bare,
In a world full of noise, you’re the breath of fresh air.

So here’s to you, my love, on this special day,
With every heartbeat, I cherish you more in every way.
For in this wild journey, you’re my guiding star,
Happy birthday, my darling, my love, my czar.

Forever yours,
Odette aka Laurie

Premium MemberExpectant Waiting

The paraphernalia of our marriage could unite
Our bodies for only a few days, and our minds—never
Beyond the night of our room, your eyes blinked at the moonlight.
Our gorgeous king-queen bed could not keep our hearts together.

Preparing your favourite dishes, I eagerly wait
For my birthday cake, which you'd bring, with a lovely red rose
I stare through the wine cups that seem, like me, to contemplate
On their emptiness, which, lo, never, on their own, they chose

No one has been invited, I know. These decorations
I've done it so that if anyone comes, they shouldn't blame you.
You may be in a bar or at someone's celebrations.
Tales of the Night Ending: I can smell the morning dew.

Come, my love, I dare to bear your infidelity too.
I love you. My love for you is true. It will remain true.

Premium MemberTucked Up In Our Little Corner

We’ve always done for each other what we thought was good and right.
Tucked up in our little corner under the rainy mist of our street light.
Tucked up in our little life where we know that we only have each other when the world chooses us with which to fight.

We found love and peace in one another in this beautiful little life.
All the years that we’ve been together through the laughter, fears, tears, felines and cries. Tucked up here together, well that’s alright.

Because, I’ll never regret a moment, not one single moment of our life, when I see you, my you, my love, our little corner tucked up in your loving blue eyes.

Premium MemberIn Honor of My Husband

If only I had never met him!
I would still be in Chicago, afraid to say how I truly felt.
Yet, it got my family to heights, with cards we never were ever dealt.

I was raised to be a quiet, obedient child.
But he got me out of my warm, comfort zone.
And elope to the West Coast, which became our home.

I felt as though I were on another planet!
Poets, artists, musicians, did not have closed minds.
But were open to ideas, most would never abide.

Eloping in a blizzard at eighteen years of age!
Having high hopes and dreams was our intoxication.
Wanting to have no part of the conformist nation.

So many great people, he brought into our life.
Today our wedding anniversary, sixty- four years!
You died at thirty, our memories never washed away by tears.

Just wanted to say, thank you, I still love you, my dear.
And being able to use a poetic pen, without guilt or fear!
You freed me from the that jail, called “conformity.”
That nowhere place, hallmarks still..humanity. You

Love you forever,

My Dear Husband

My life began with you and it will end with you by my side

When hearts are joined like ours it can never be apart.

My love ,the many years spent with you as made me realize how lucky I am to have you by my side.

Your sincere heart, inner strength and love
tells me everyday how much you love us.

Nothing you do for us goes unnoticed and we appreciate every little thing you do.

You are a man that loves unconditionally,
You are a man of integrity,
You are a man who gives pure love,

It's been soo many years together but still
everytime I look into your eyes I feel butterflies in my tummy.
My love for you continues to grow each and every day.

My wish for you is too always be happy my love,
I wish for every worry of yours to disappear because you deserve everything of the best my love,

Thank you for always being you,
Thank you for your love,
I hope you know how special you are to us my dear love,

Premium MemberHappy Birthday

I know that love’s alive, I know it lives in there.
Sorrow behind caring eyes, embers hidden by sunny glare.
I know it feels and feels so very deep. All the veins deliver life but rapids form around the heart you keep.
I see the scars of years, all the mileage of being worn. The lines of age don’t smudge the truth of the soul.
I see deep into your eyes, past the shine that most will know. I see the cracks of ice and the dark holes that they call home.
I catch you looking at me and sometimes I don’t even know. Which one is looking, there’s so many hovering around your soul.
Love like fresh air we can breathe. Love that then pops and explodes. Fireworks of colour and light. Your love burns and brightens my life.
Happy birthday to the one I love and all the others living in there behind your eyes.

Premium MemberA Special Birthday

June twelfth, two thousand twelve, a special date
when all our family had gathered near
to offer tribute and to celebrate,
your birthday, my dear husband- held so dear.

We gathered at a steak house in a park;
some fifty friends and family were there,
with food and drink and birthday cake to mark
your special day- revered with love and care.

You had attained age seventy and five,
a milestone cherished by all those you knew.
A few years back, by-pass kept you alive-
miraculous for sure- and happy you

outlived your dad, granddad, and great-grand too,
who passed from heart disease before their time.
That special birthday brought great hope anew-
for younger members now within their prime.

Still doing well, as you're now eight-four,
and with God's grace, new birthday, come next year-
your eighty-fifth- we'll party even more
and celebrate with thankfulness and cheer!

Premium MemberOh, Happy Birthday My Love

the moment we met it was love
a promise like a flower bloomed
your deep laughter and voice was music to my soul
                    oh, happy birthday my love
love came to us like a guest unbidden
and you became my heart and soul
with trembling lips we kissed
and that first kiss was so heavenly
I was lost in magic as clouds sailed across the sky
        oh, happy birthday my love
we both drank from the deep blue sky
as you wrapped me in your arms
when you asked me to marry you
without hesitation I said, yes
we had so many future plans for us and our baby
and happiness always filled our days
                      oh, happy birthday my love
today, I will bring two perfect red roses
one for you my love on your birthday
and one for our baby boy

"and with tears I place the roses on your graves."

Premium MemberA Birthday Wish For Joe

He doesn’t like to socialize, nor does
he laugh at funny shows the way I do.
He suffers chronic pain and frets because
he’s worked so long and hard his whole life through.

We’ve had our ups and downs, and that’s for sure,
but I can overlook the bad. Our love
has grown through many years and will endure
because there’s one thing I am certain of.
My husband’s there for me! Though he may lack
a way with words, much tact or great finesse,
I know deep down – he’ll always have my back.
Each year as we grow greyer, he feels stress.
My birthday wish for him is that he’ll find
contentment and – at last – some peace of mind.

Premium MemberBirthday Greetings My Love

next to you on bed is a single red rose,
for my love’s birthday that I chose,
please think of that as piece of my heart..
now, now! don’t look at me like that
and don’t you start…

I love you with each breath of my being,
can’t spend a day without you, not seeing,
in everything I do you are an essential part..
now, now! don’t look at me like that
and don’t you start…

read the card specially made for you,
you will instantly know my love is true,
you are so beautiful and so smart…
now, now! don’t look at me like that
and don’t you start…

office work is difficult and boss so rude,
I was pushing sales to please the dude,
my name now is on top of his chart..
now, now! don’t look at me like that
and don’t you start…

please hear me out and let me speak,
I knew your birthday was last week,
you are angry, you think I forgot…
now, now! don’t look at me like that
and don’t you start…

My Husbands Horse

My husband has a running joke
About his perfect gift
And since his birthday’s here, I thought
That he could use a lift.

A horse is what he claims to want
And we all play along,
For living in Manhattan, well,
A horse does not belong.

And then I had a great idea
And Amazon came through -
A hobby horse that neighs
And makes some clip clop noises, too.

My son put in the order
And he wrapped it up real sweet.
To see my husband ride it
Was a laugh-inducing treat.

Be careful what you wish for
Since there may just be a gap
Between fantasy and truth, but either way,
Let’s giddy-yap!

(Note - Poetry Soup did not let me put
an apostrophe in Husband’s in the title!
As a former English teacher, I say Grrrrr!)

Away On Your Birthday

 You are a dear
My heart’s true desire.
Although you are away on
Your birthday I will not miss a chance.

I will still send you, my love.
I will still you, my hugs and kisses.
I will write about them and wrapped it all in one big letter.

Sealed it and send it to you by the mail.
It will then fly out until it reaches the skies.
And until it arrives your new home, until it lands upon your hands and eventually, reaches your heart.

Happiest Birthday my one true love. I will, and we will see you soonest.

Partying In Heaven

Born in nineteen forty four
We met when I was sweet sixteen
We found true love forevermore
My precious love ~ my soulmate

Spending our whole life together
With precious son ~ our only one
Then creeping like inclement weather
The Big C came it knew your name

You were so strong you were so brave
You fought just like a warrior
But in the end the evil stayed
It drained you and it claimed you

When on that day you went away
December two thousand and eight
My heart it almost broke in two
Life alone ~ no life without you

Born today St Patrick's Day
You will be seventy seven
And I am sure behind that door
They’ll be partying in heaven

I raise a glass of your favourite red
Chateauneuf du Pape
Thank you for your endless love
My darling
My soulmate
My sweetest chap

Premium MemberHusband, Did You Bring My Flies

Husband, Did You Bring My Flies?
By Miracle Man
3/2/2021 2:30 AM

Floating down an Arkansas stream
to catch walleye or trout.
The flies she thought she’d brought along,
she found husband had left without.

It really didn’t matter though,
that she could do no fishing.
It’s better to have gone and watched,
than sat at home just wishing.

Now the moral of this birthday story is,
don’t sit at home and wish.
Never trust another to load your flies,
if expecting to catch some fish.

Premium MemberLet Me Be

Let me be your wings~
as you reach the sky
and the flight seems so endless.

Let me be your life jacket~
when you're drowning in the sea
and lifeboats aren't in sight.

Let me be your firelight~
to keep you warm
midst windy wintry eve.

Let me be your star~
on moonless lonely nights
and your eyes aglow no more.

Let me be your heartbeats~
now and forever ...
through all eternity.
