Odour of autumn in the air
Summer silently flew away
Trees shed leaves soon will be bare
Seasonal change, beauty will not stay.
Last roses look weary on dying bush
Dandelion clocks wait to be blown
Herbaceous border not looking lush
Wander garden on my own.
Before long cold winter is here
Grey clouds daily, sun slipped away
Nature is silent quiet time of year
No way summer could possibly stay.
Wood smoke rises from chimney
Amber light filters through curtain
Those I love are safe inside with me
Spring will arrive of this I am certain.

grieving sad loss of summer
it is time of greatest joy
when old bones no longer ache
and eyes are blessed with colour
to smell crisp newly mown grass
after warm summer shower
herbaceous border delights
hollyhocks reached perfection
midnight, smell the torpid air
wisteria in moonlight
salamander on old walls
nightlight with aura sheds glow
drinking strong morning coffee
wide eyes take in this beauty
never to be forgotten
image held close to my heart

The smallest of seeds falls and amalgamates with the earth.
Amidst dust to dust, mist, manure, and moisture gain rebirth.
Leaf evolution, stem elongation, and florescence
With sun-lit yellow blooms, it reaches its adolescence.
Like a vulture, it spreads its wings of bold bushy branches.
Towards giving rest to birds of all kinds, it advances.
From a wheatish tone, the colour of seeds slowly turns brown.
Into globular black painite granule finds its renown.
All these were hidden within these as a seed when it fell.
As a seed yielding shrub, it has many tales to tell.
Adding taste to the food and serving as herbs to good health
Is not a mustard seed a gem of herbaceous wealth?
Divine kingdom, though humble in stature, is marvellous.
To seek this, yet, you asked them, shouldn't each one be righteous?

This astronomical event
Molted out of summer sunbeams
Causes an herbaceous retreat
Personified as sleepiness
More darkness less lightness describes
This astronomical event
More coldness less heatness results
From shorter indirect sunbeams
Tilting revolving rotating
Earth goes around again until
This astronomical event
Reassuringly reoccurs
Earthly inhabitants rejoice
Variously and celebrate
The season attributed to
This astronomical event

Off to meet up with family and friends this Fourth of July
Word games banter, years renewed, time gently drifts away
A sweet time sweeps by on this rehabituating Independence Day

The gnomes of olden times
carefully hung the sun
and moon up in the skies.
Growing gardens by their
light provided garlic,
and sweet pumpkin delights.
Hoards of squashes and gourds
for making many tools;
Gnomes are truly no fools.
Little ones planted seeds
and watered plants with care,
polishing leaves with zeal.
Foods baked with fluffy eggs
have textures that are best
a flavor-burst delight!
Elementals won’t rest
until they’ve grown the best;
herbaceous edibles.
Be grateful to wee folk
caring for your garden;
watch them not as they work.
For secrets must be kept
in Mother Nature’s vault;
the Gnomes will never tell.

Thicket of intermingled branch tangle
Hides pimple shine ripe juice strawberries strewn
Across pine needle pick up stick mangle
Fragrant lily pink tang gives tasty boon
Hook horseshoe slender stems support balls' dangle
Gloss hanging globes celebrate scarlet balloon
Bountiful renewed eruption of Spring
Sprouts floated fruit fit for a fairytale King
Hidden in haven bed of duvet shade
Shielded precious berries, safe from predator
Sweetest treats endorse purely Heaven made
Cones pushing petals exalt Mother Nature
Lanterns swinging China Town of gloomy glade
Lined foliage raises redness in rapture
Emblem of wild leaf crown insignia
Represents righteous memorabilia
Humble hunter uncovers last month's melt
Freshened season floods taste buds in wonder
Tart bumpy tongue tid bits brazenly dealt
By pine imbibed wildness growing under
Woodland umbrella where I'm gladly knelt
Gaunt Winter cruelty is cast asunder
God's lollies extend tender umbilical
Sun warm strawberry snack sabbatical

Once upon a time, not so long ago.
If only you knew, my spirit reflected
The greenery of nature and It's cooling
On that balmy day. You carefully laid me
Down beneath spilled cerulean and crimson sky
And moving clouds; a fervent morning sunlight
Sheltered under rustling, verdant umbrella
Of trees. On a sparse, herbaceous aroma,
Bed of grass. You cupped my head in your hand,
A small kiss you had laid on my forehead;
When we were together, you and I.
The comforting love of affection.
A perfect moment whilst the world breathed
And the clouds gathered to quench the storm.
A serenity I would love to see return,
But those fluttering autumnal color leaves
And spill crimson sky; also mourn for you and me.

Mystery Seeds
Uninvited to my garden party -
Skepticism abounds
At faces hidden by woody capes
Maybe innocence masked in suspicion
Absent an invitation – party crashers
Of unknown origin
And unknown certification;
Weed or wildflower –
Herb or herbaceous horror –
Maybe alien blooms born on a meteor
No toasts of welcome in dewy nectar
By garden residents -
Only side winding glances
Born of dubious -
Unwelcomed arrivals
With no return address
Arouse qualms growing like rosebush suckers
No RSVP for surprise attendees
Asking admittance
When curiosity stands up waving
Told “Sit down!”
While walking to the trash.
I missed the Mystery Seeds contest by a couple of minutes! Just wanted to share the results from this fun contest theme.

Is there something about grass
Close-clipped
On lawns and playing fields
That’s blithely overlooked?
Its qualities seem simply put:
Offsetting herbaceous borders
And yielding underfoot.
Or is every blade like everyone
Quite different from up-close
Unique and undervalued
Unsung and lachrymose?
