all these candles tell me to die,
but one is my wish to live
September is blessed with one of the best.
You'd remember him if you ever happened to meet;
Aaron is the name of that fine, dandy dude.
I'm building a tower of mirth with my virtuous dude.
We set each brick together - hand in hand always works best.
Today is his birthday, so for a fete, we should meet.
At a park, by a beach, or on a casual street is where we may meet.
Must it be a costly, boastful retreat when frugal is ten times best?
Simple but mellifluous harmonies created by a Pisces with her Virgo dude.
September's best, blessed to meet, and he's my dude, wholeheartedly!
I miss my girl; I miss my wife
on this, the best day of her life,
with no more pain and no more strife
dancing at the feet of her Lord.
I am told “Take time to grieve”.
I know it’s there; I’m not naive.
But when you believe what I believe,
that just seems untoward.
Shall I play a dirge and mope?
Am I in denial? Nope!
Just dance with her in joy and hope;
receive the gift you can’t afford.
*** BLESSED at 40 ***
Forty years of living
and I am still loving it.
Thank you Father God,
You have blessed my life.
As I walked to whereever,
pedal a cycle, drive a car
ride a small boat or a big ship,
fly with a plane,
tango with the times,
surf with the waves
of joys and tears,
conquer every struggle.
Battle each fear,
pray for every wish,
I never stop dreaming
I on becoming each year...

These little distances remain between us.
These little distances speak.
These little distances are nothing but dust,
And the distances contain colours deep.
These little distances are always too far,
Never too near they dare.
These little distances hurt so hard,
And 'tis not fair.
These little distances hold us back.
These little distances kill.
These little distances click, they clack,
But you'll find me exactly here still.
The date of your death was a day I'll always hate.
If you hadn't died, today you would've turned 78.
When you became ill, you went under the knife.
A surgeon amputated your leg to try to save your life.
He also operated on your stomach and it was enough to cause fear.
You couldn't be saved and it's so sad because you're no longer here.
When you died, it was upsetting because your demise was so unfair.
Happy Birthday, Mom, you're in Heaven and I'm glad you're up there.
[Dedicated to Agnes Greene-Johnson (1948-2013) who passed away on March 6, 2013]
Birthdays.
What a dubious way to celebrate the imminent proximity of an epilogue.
A concept I have found myself familiar with, as I wait for its darkness to breathe my flesh into an eternity of condemn.
It’s so monotonously profound, rousing my revulsion into a cavern of numbing ecstasy.
The hallucination of confetti blinds me in a disdain of joyous vibrancy I beseech for a defrauding.
A joyous vibrancy I elude in a hope of inevitable invasion.
A joyous vibrancy I hunt until the trail of its scorn boils with the distraught of my blood.
The mascara pours down my face; a river of infamy, coercing the heft of my obscenity.
The lipstick smears down my chin; a sadistic endeavour to ravage the dereliction of my leeches.
The highlighter gleams; a grotesque jubilation of a fibbing mockery.
And the fundamental rigour of my perished rot derides in a soul prompting conjecture;
I hope this is my last birthday.
Happy Birthday, My Love
On this day the stars conspired,
to gift the world the flame I admired.
Your smile, a dawn that lights my skies,
your laughter, music where my spirit flies.
Every heartbeat whispers your name,
a gentle fire, an endless flame.
With you, the world feels soft and new,
each moment painted in love’s hue.
So here’s my vow, both sweet and true:
Forever, my heart belongs to you.
Happy birthday, darling, my soul’s delight,
you are my morning, my dream, my night.
The symphony to my soul ,
the cool breeze to my summer,
the golden sunshine to my rain,
The pink vibrant hue of my autumns
You're to me..
The heartbeat in the quiet moments..
The whisper in my prayers,
An evening like this....with the sky like a faded painting
It's your birthday..
As people move around me..
I sit still
Watching the sun fall behind the The Taj..

Ku- your ubizo, your umsebenzi wobungcweti, your calling.
Your umsebenzi wezandla is being shaped in quiet hours.
Through ukuqina and indlela, ngibe gathering ulwazi.

So yiba patient with the process.

A special Birthday wish to my good friend Eileen. As many of you know I have named her the Queen of The Romantic Pen. She is one of the most talented poets I have ever come across.
Join me in wishing her an amazing Birthday.
She is a warm hearted and lovely person. She deserves to be honoured.
I know her Birthday is not until the 18th but I’ll be traveling at that time. I don’t want to miss an opportunity to wish her well.
All the best Eileen, enjoy an amazing new rotation around the sun.
Hugs and Love
Richard.
On the occasion of Shakespeare's birth
Three words from the Bard illuminate more brightly than the sun
And standing in his shadow one is most likely there to fade
As a flickering candle placed beside the light of that bright one
And measuring one's own image thus will leave most all unmade
One wonders whence the ink was drawn that this Alchemist turned to gold
The moment that his sharpened quill touched down upon the page
As genius in sequential thought upon the parchment there unscrolled
Which lapped upon the shore of love where seas of passion rage
And yet the spark still licks the wick encompassed now in tallow
Not giving thought to where it might land one in history
Unlit 'twould render darkness cursed and all to wade there shallow
Should all stand cowed and trembling bowed without posterity
Surely mortals mere as me serve but to burnish what surrounds
The gilded steps up to the treasure, measuring there what still astounds
Happy Birthday Ione

Today is still your birthday
You would now be seven eight
Although you’re up in heaven
I’m still remembering this date
Each one we celebrated
When we were a man and wife
With love and understanding
As we traveled through our life
With the love you left me
Found another one to share
Who also had been left behind
With a life alone and bare
I know that you would love her
And that she would love you too
We now share our lives together
Much the same as me and you
You will always be remembered
On this day for all my life
If not for the love we shared
I would not have another wife
Happy birthday Ione!!!
Forget about money and power
Life is indeed a divine gift
From the Almighty God of every hour
From the Eternal Spirit which can lift
The entire Universe with one finger
A divine gift must be respected at all times
Cease all stupid and useless wars and crimes
Against Humanity, civility, decency and compassion
“Thou Shall Not Kill”. Seek salvation and benediction
Rather than the curses and anathemas of the Almighty
If you don’t pay, your grandchildren will pay – without mercy
Love is a true panacea and life, a divine treasure
Karma forgets nothing. Regardless, there will be a future
The wheel is turning, and, without a doubt, it will come to a stop somewhere.
Money and power, for their part, will lead you nowhere.
P.S. This poem is dedicated to my mother on the occasion of her birthday.
Thank you to God, Mom and Dad for the Gift of Life. Thank you for this longevity.
Happy Birthday to all those born in the month of April.

Have you ever pondered your value?
Asking sincerely about your worth
Placing importance on a thank you
Playfully with words referring to your birth
You may ask simply what is the meaning?
Based on what is being written here
It's a poetic celebration of well-meaning
Referring to you because you're dear
The earth was blessed on that given day
Having been gifted someone truly special
Daily joy even on days that may seem gray
Always with your presence totally on the level
You make things truly better and whenever
Even on the days that you don't think so
Life becomes a smile with just a "whatever"
I just wanted you to understand and know
Forever thankful for you, even if your eyes begin to roll
