Premium MemberThey Gathered Outside My House

Unlike the model T Ford
They come in both black and brown
And also unlike model T
It’s brown that is getting me down

But what I refer to is no early car
And it isn’t a cute little mouse
It’s whopping great rats and they frightened my cats
As they gathered outside my house

I’ve baited the snap traps with chocolate and cheese
And, boy, are those rats hard to please
I’ve even tried peanuts and freshly popped peas
And tuna was barely a tease

They’re climbing my bird table like they’re on speed
And wolfing down copious volumes of seed
They extricate bait out of all of the traps
I’ll catch one tomorrow… perhaps… perhaps

Those hideous creatures are still in my yard
Should catching some rats ever be quite this hard
I’m halfway doolally from rodent war-games
And totally bonkers… for giving them names.

Premium MemberThey Gathered Outside My House

They gathered outside- I'm alone,
and at my back window, I groan!
I think- what is this
my hubby will miss?
Then, quickly I reach for my phone!

"We're being invaded, my dear!
Please quickly come home, for I fear
these huge long-necked beasts
are looking for feasts!
Whatever they are- is unclear!”

“I counted at least twenty-one
now looking for food where there's none!
It seemed a bad sign
when their eyes met mine!
The door's locked- so I need not run!"

Some photos I send him to please;
He views them, then texts me with ease-
"Please, honey calm down!
No need for a frown!
Your so-called wild beasts are Turkeys!”

Confusing, as I just recalled
my Thanksgiving Turkeys were bald;
came right from the store
piled up with lots more!
Not “beasts”- but OUR “feasts” - I'm appalled!

Premium MemberKing David the Giant Killer

He gathered five stones for the fight of his life
only needed one the right one to win
He was a shepherd anointed to be king
young and handsome against Goliath a giant
arrogant and loud he spoke with so much venom
in despair everyone ran away as faith hid behind fear
friends and foe alike took one look at David laughed
ridiculed by the devil but he had faith no turning back
faith is all he had left, evil would not prevail
looked bad for him man's armour was awkward
it was like carrying the weight of the world

death smiles impatiently waiting for anyone someone
to be released from their earthly costume
He ran to do battle to be written for you and me
Goliath wore sword spear and javelin a fearful sight
along the way David picked up five smooth stones
put one in his sling always looking to the heavens
meanwhile Goliath swore with contempt
of David’s coming end a storied fight
he drew with words a painting of sorts
the results of his handiwork on David’s parts
without hesitation faith as his shield
David’s stone left his sling and the Giant was silenced
evil was be-headed by a shepherd, a smooth stone
and God

Premium MemberGathered Moments

in the break of dawn
there was that moment i felt loved
and all was right with the world

in the shuffle of chaos
there was that moment i felt peace
and time hovered as if standing still

in the midst of night
there was that moment i felt serene
and hope took root in my heart

The Family Gathered

As family détente grew eroded,
In the kitchen Mom cooked and got loaded.
Dad yelled, Mildred, the bird!
I forgot! she wine-slurred
And next moment the turkey exploded.

Scattered Shards Gathered

Scattered shards, remnants of Eden,
Gathered to a ring of bright topaz
A simultaneous soliloquy of intentionality
At the crux of intersecting avenues.

++ The Gathered Women, a short poem++

A Magnificence captures
Us
Unexpectedly
We run off
To hunt our mantillas
   From long ago youth
To address
And dress our heads
In all felt humility

Premium MemberA Couple Gathered and Praise the Singing Dance

May I talk to your hidden thoughts
May I hold your hand and guide you so you won't get lost
May I hope you understand
That there's more than just our plan
Can we maintain and tell the world
 That we serve
 a mighty Lord
what will happen if we regulate
Those of the thoughts of distilled hate
Together we shall dance

Premium MemberThey Gathered All the Scientists

They gathered all the scientists
And blue checked folks with clout,
Then casting wisdom in the fire,
The flattened curve jumped out.

To keep the folk from reveling,
Presumed to cause the spread,
They tried to lock the virus down,
Got nursing homes instead.

The jab, developed at warp speed,
Anathema to the left,
Became a tool political,
A means for freedom’s theft.

The truth: the experts do not know;
They’re really flying blind.
To come up with decisions made,
You’d think ‘twas all designed.

Our leaders do not bear all blame;
The culpable, entwined.
For it appears the people too
Lost their collective mind.

See, not much changed since long ago,
When Mo came back to town,
And gave the bitter medicine:
The golden calf, drunk down.

And so the “pure” get Omicron,
The unwashed get it too.
There’s blame enough for all to share
Before this thing is through.

What learn we from this episode?
One takeaway’s a must:
Imperative, the choice we make
In whom we place our trust.

Premium MemberThe Dust

Layers of dust gathered
Resulting from
One's laziness
Windiness of the day
Dryess of the weather
Pollution from heavy traffic
But
Dust gathered beneath your feet
Resembles you
When that day come
You're burnt to ashes
In a big inferno
