She gathered roses,
one at a time,
choosing carefully,
for you see, they were her healing
A light breeze tickled her hair
as a brief smile curved upon her soft lips
The sun, bright on this day was a welcome diversion
from the clouds that followed in her mind
Life was green in this meadow
and she enjoyed the green as it flowed
as far as her eyes could see,
snipping yet another pink rose
Not everything was beautiful in her world
but the roses spoke to her, delicate whispers
telling her she was special and that even a thorn
drawing blood could feel good once the pain had subsided
She had touched many thorns in her life,
the scars though faded still decorated her in guilt
A butterfly caught her glimpse, wings of black and blue,
once her colors, now another slice of nature’s wonder
This butterfly was her and she knew it,
free to move about the petals as she pleased
Happily greeting each bloom, caressing the textures
within the safety of her garden
She gathered roses,
one at a time,
choosing carefully
for you see they were her…
healing

This faded memory sleeps in my mind
covered with years of gathered dust to shield
the pain remembering brings to my heart;
but even so, the hurt has never healed.
Sometimes the gathered dust that shields my pain
is swept away to bare this hurt again.
The Nursing Home
1978
Like faded photos lying in a drawer,
so tucked away from sight of mind and eye,
the memories of which bring pangs of hurt,
this one I love, she waits her turn to die.
To join the mournful displaced of old age,
from home and family, she had to part;
she does not see the pain I also feel,
as loneliness stabs deep her weakened heart.
Oh dear Grandma, I once laid in your arms,
I was your pride and joy, your dream come true.
But life does balance joy with darker hours,
and sometimes there is nothing one can do.
I cannot bear to see your tear-filled eyes,
your robust figure turned to bones and skin;
your pleading hands that yearn for yesterday,
the smell of death and dying there within.
And though I know I'll be with you again,
throughout the time between, I choose to keep
you tucked away from sight of mind and eye,
safe in my drawer of memories you'll sleep.
Today that gathered dust that shielded pain
was swept away to bare this hurt again.

~Gathered In His Love~
(Cross of Salvation)
Great things take place
When you know Him
Need to believe
He's son of God
Accept that you
Are a sinner
Need salvation
He can provide
When you receive Him your heart will be transformed
Once you know Him you'll never feel again the same
You'll want to get to know Him better every day
Your life will never be the same after you do this
You must Believe in Him
Must do this in your heart
Just have Faith and believe
Jesus is Son of God
By our Father was sent
He came and paid for sins
Innocent Lamb of God
Precious Blood gave for us
New changes take place
He will be with you
Heart sees His face

So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
1 Corinthians 13:13 (NIV)
-For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."

"Fragments and crumbs of life, all the little pieces"
John Ruskin, 1853
In my younger days thought much about fame
And went on laying the edifice of prosperity
That envisioned in the clear light of eternity
And might properly house the glory of my name.
But thoughts swifter than wind pushed my plan
Though the fair foundation has yet begun
And started with friends dallying in the sun
Scrambling awkwardly and the liquors ran.
Was too late to see my vision shape and rise
In the place of lofty peaks and towers.
Mind’s pieces drifted the conscious premise
Drowned by flotsam-jetsam in sluggish currents.
Later friends gulled and well-wishers deceived
And now have no regrets, nothing unachieved
Fragments left me to collect the pieces together
Spending all my time of bliss at ease forever.

DARK CLOUDS HAD GATHERED
by Madhuri Rebecca Hembrom
Penned down on Jan. 15, 2015 @ Calcutta, Bishops College, 2 pm
Dark clouds had gathered
So black and dark
That, i almost lost hope;
Hope to see the stars above,
To feel the sunlight
Face the sun
Dark clouds had gathered
Nevertheless, I tried
And tried, Harder and harder
Still holding on to that little bit of Hope
Until one day, I gave up
Dark clouds had gathered.
It was so dark,
You almost thought there was no dawn,
Light seemed unreal; A Fantasy
Found only in movies, stories, books
And thoughts to explore.
Dark Clouds had gathered.
It's darkest near to Dawn
A little Ray of Hope remained,
somewhere hidden,
Then I saw the first star,
I got Scared,
Thought it was Treachery.
Dark Clouds had gathered.
And more stars appeared
Still I was Blinded by my Fear
Didn't know what I feared the most?
Stars or Clouds.
Lived so long in darkness that light seemed but a dream
Dark clouds had gathered.
The first Ray of Light
Blinded me,
Shook my whole Being,
The dark clouds were clearing
Light was coming
Dark clouds had gathered.
Then like a Miracle in Life
Fate conspired,
Circumstances changed.
We met; dark clouds departed,
It was Light Again.
Beautiful and Clear,
Pure and Whole
Dark clouds had gathered.
Finally,
Dark Clouds have Cleared,
A Blessed Day
Awaits Us, Welcomes Us.
Fortune Smiles at Us,
Stars Twinkle at us,
Sun Shines Brightly at Us...
We SMILE and LAUGH
WE ARE LIKE BEACONS...
Dark Clouds had Gathered.

The stately fir and cedar
are roped in garlands green
about the staircase bannisters
edging old wood's polished gleam.
Their bracing forest fragrance
punctuates the air with spice;
on the tree in parlor window
twinkle sparkling lights like ice.
What joy to sit at evening
with just candle glow released,
the tree lights softly spreading
an atmosphere of peace.
I think about the loved ones
soon to gather round and sing;
I think that heaven’s angels
guard us here with outspread wings.
Perhaps they touch us softly,
when or how we may not see,
with love from those we’re missing
gathered round our Christmas tree.

Zenith achieved
Yielding to no one
Xcept, my cracks are beginning to show
White is a lie of a color to wear
Vestigial hope lingers
Until the deeds are signed
This is my funeral I must attend with a smile
Shaky hands, sweaty forehead
Ringing bells signifying tragedy
Quenched is my thirst for pain
Passed is the time for indecision
Only forward toward death
Nameless, faceless shapes
Marching between them
Linked to the broker that means to sell me
Keeping in cheerful step to the incinerator
Jaunting to be completely destroyed
I am not the face I wear
Hindsight is haunting
Glamorous, isn't it?
Formidable, aren't I?
Everything I want comes to my feet
Desire, however, is a cage
Change is not an option
But only happiness
Always

Rainclouds gathered and
My dream drenched my lover's breasts
She clasped me closer
As if the thunder of my kiss struck
The wild forests
Fire touched the sky she cried in wonder
Rain began to fall
Till a lake was formed
In her surf blue eyes
I was deep asleep
Thunder struck again
The rocks tumbled down the hills
Earth shook and shook his icy head
Like violent monsters in dancing spree
And suddenly all stopped wind lulled
Elements were listening
A distant ecstatic moan
Slowly the moon rose in hope
To shed rays on the waters
No ripples calm lake was laughing
I was in deep sleep
The urchin crickets had the last laugh

++ The Gathered Women, a short poem++
A Magnificence captures
Us
Unexpectedly
We run off
To hunt our mantillas
From long ago youth
To address
And dress our heads
In all felt humility

Scattered Shards Gathered
Scattered shards, remnants of Eden,
Gathered to a ring of bright topaz
A simultaneous soliloquy of intentionality
At the crux of intersecting avenues.

As family détente grew eroded,
In the kitchen Mom cooked and got loaded.
Dad yelled, Mildred, the bird!
I forgot! she wine-slurred
And next moment the turkey exploded.
