Excitement built up,
riding the hot air balloon
with my two daughters.
Turned to fear for falling fast,
bounced on the ground, and then dragged.

The frightening ride
happened in New Mexico
sixteen years ago,
did not dampen my spirit
for riding another one.

Felt no excitement
nervous from the prior ride,
calmly went for it.
Magic moment in the sky,
view of sunrise and balloons.

What the Sun Sees

As I rise,
The moon falls
The wind settles
The lake follows
The sand shimmers
The earth softens
The stars dampen and
The buildings brighten,

A tree houses
A bird swooshes
A flower opens
A fish swims
A weed dances
A squirrel eats and
A duck dips,

A man hurries to work
A woman runs on the boardwalk
A grandfather grabs the paper
A boy hides from me
A girl giggles on the swings
A bell ushers kids away and\
A bike lane grows heavy,

This place,
So full with life
Racks the minutes, hours, days, years,
Peacefully, quietly, beautifully--
Existing with incredible happenings;
Splendors and revelations,
Dark funerals and ‘happy birthdays’,
Joyous jubilations and lonely mornings,
Yellow hellos and red goodbyes,
Tired people and busy minds.
Perpetual, like that grandfather clock in the apartment with the too-thin walls;
As unchanging as the oak tree outside of the tiny bungalow on the corner street by the beach.
And as I set and rise everyday to do the same 24-hour shift,
I do not complain about the similar views, or the boring minutes,
I do not crave the hours in darkness,
I accept the unthanked labor—
I  watch.
I  listen.
I exist.

Premium MemberTo Cancer

Your presence is unbidden,
silent as a sleeping cat,
you're cancer.
Clothed in robes of despondency,
of deep tolling knells.
Yet, there's flowering hope
of exultation,
rising into another star-blessed
dawn.

You cannot, you will not dampen dreams,
they are always created,
nurtured from their infancy,
delivered into limitless life,
so treasured from a child's free mind,
as vast, as pristine as the universe.
Then, like pure doves they leave the
bonds of this mortality,
far from you cancer,
and your selfish grasp. ~

You Are Special To Me

You are special to me
I can stay awake for you
I don't get tired talking to you
You constantly crosses my mind always
You are the person I love
You make me smile without trying
Unintentionally dampen my mood
Effect my emotion with your action
Words can't explain how much you mean to me
You're the one person I'm afraid to lose
I want to keep you in my life forever.

Dear One

Dragging my pen along the walls of the well,
The ink of meaningful words runs dry,
Blind to who you've become, and serving only to dampen empty sockets,
The misty drops of moments lost become the meaningless tears I cry,
And the blink of the eyeless is, likewise, frivolous nictation,
For it was yesterday upon them your image permanently seared,
And eternity is in the hurt of not knowing what to say,
Since my favorite words fell hopelessly on deaf ears,
And memories fail to give new sights or sounds,
As I look to see you, listening for your story, still,
To reign down the tempestuous quench of stillness,
And let the well refill.

Dear Poetry soup friends

I miss my dear friends
At Poetry soup
I’ve been on the mend
And out of the loop

Times have been trying
As most of you know
Excessive crying
Can dampen one’s glow

Please let me back in
Despite time that’s passed
I need you, dear friends
And that’s all I ask

Hiden behind societys walls

We all fight a silent war
Our hearts and minds feel the ache
Yet we hide behind walls
Try not to break

They say It's not that bad
we have control
Though they don't know
How it hurts my soul

This wasn't our choice
But it's there
A deep angry voice

Whisperings secrets in our ears
Making us anxious
Displaying our fears

Though it may be better now
We need to dampen the stigma
We have to figure out how

Let’s break these walls
Let us breath
Let it all out
Let us grieve

If you see someone down
Lend a hand
We could fight it
If together we stand

Our illness is not a weakness
We must listen to our hearts
Open up
That's where the healing starts

A Passerby By The Cove

Dig, dig, dig,
What a catchy phrase,
It is a phase,
When I gave time to pace,
I untie my lace,
Set time to race,
I cut to the chase,
To let my body move,
The sand I shove,
Grain by grain of quartz,
As if I'm wearing a Swatch,
I dampen my body,
With out of reach,
I am not a preacher,
But I know I'm on siege,
I'm not underage,
I turn money into sage,
I take my pledge,
I make it to the center stage,
But wait, I'm in a cage,
I need to go to college,
To turn a dime from a seawage.

Lifes' cards

Life's a deck of cards, fate’s unsteady hand,
And I hold the joker, at life's command.
For every joy, a shadow falls,
A dance of highs, and sudden stalls.

One moment I'm laughing, a heart full of glee,
Next, I'm crying, despair captures me.
Happiness fleeting, sadness its twin,
A battle within, where to begin?

Depression’s grip, a slowing tide,
Time crawls, and shadows hide.
In my mind, it digs so deep,
Thoughts entwined, no restful sleep.

Would life be easier if I were gone?
An empty void where memories drawn.
How can they love, when inside I'm lost,
A shipwreck in waiting, not yet tossed?

I see their smiles, their endless grace,
My kids, step-kids, partner’s embrace.
Why do I deserve their light and love?
They're the stars, the moon above.

They keep my heart ticking, steady and true,
But I fear my shadows dampen their view.
I wish I were well, to run, to play,
To laugh with them, in a carefree way.

So here I stand, the joker in hand,
Balancing life on shifting sand.
But know this, my love holds strong,
For them, I fight, where I belong.

Too Bad

Too bad today’s not Turkey Day;
It’s sunny, crisp and bright.
Tomorrow will be pouring, which
For travel isn’t right.

The floats in the parade, as well
As families who wait
To see the bands and the balloons
Will all be tempting fate.

Yet still, the holiday will be
A gathering of kin
And maybe friends to join to help
The festive meal begin.

The rain may dampen spirits
But when everyone’s together,
Thanksgiving will be much the same,
Despite the nasty weather.

Premium MemberDaisy a Day - Gotta Love

" Definitions:
     Delineating Means:  Depicting or describing.
     Deify Means: Adoration or exaltation for a beloved." - Oxford Dictionary -
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Darling, desire dominates dearest dreams.
Daydreams discover deepest devotion.
Despite demonstrative dauntless dedication.
Decades didn’t dampen delicate delights.
Daylight dawned, dazzled by a daisy a day.
Doting directly drives desire to dance.
Determined to declare deify for my dearest.
Distinguished, debonair, dignified date.
Dress, diamond, Diocese, document, a destiny.
Delineating developing dependence divinely.
Deserving dedicated devotion darling.
Dissent divides, devotion defends, to dispel dire divisions.
Premium MemberDevil Comet Diamond Ring-Welcome April
April showers may dampen Dallas Texas torrents glooming deluge on path way
Priceless zooming presence; shrouds blend violets and daisies blooming in May
Rain forecast an encumbered view; stubborn clouds cause distressing delay
Isn’t raining rain you know, it’s raining diamonds vrooming diamond souffle
Look expectantly skyward, your Ray Bans don, for the Solar Eclipse it's today!
Premium MemberHub On Wings
City hub on wings
apogee of ultra bright
fire within urban comet
tangerine signpost
to future halcyon spot
amidst buoyant step onrush
Bouncy castle perk
spurs avid market stall pitch
bargain in a jiffy bag
loophole hatched off-curb
brainwave surge from genie flash
to everyone’s benefit
Silver winter tinged
trees and wet overcast skies
never dampen township verve
that heartland zeitgeist
typical of boom and bloom
day or night march on dweller
Sweep off feet vision
endemic to rapid shifts
where marvel woos miracle
in heady cocktail
at the cutting-edge hubbub
point of entry upbeat frame
Sick and Tired
Sick and tired,
Of being separated from myself,
I need wholeness.
Too long.
Hurtful, embarrassing.
Unaccountable.
Burdened.
No longer joyful.
Baby steps with outstretched arms,
prepared to fall, furniture cruising.
First footstep on the line drawn sand.
It must be now.
There is always another party.
Not a wake, a celebration.
Take life in,
Find the different.
The bridge is burning.
Use what started the charring to dampen the flames.
Extinguish, watch the steam float. A phase transition.
She gives and loves.
Embrace her.
