Watching Groucho

The heat is overwhelming here,
So we’ve been trapped inside,
Except for walking to the car,
Where cool air does preside.

With time to kill, my husband found
Old movies on TV,
Some Groucho films without his sibs,
Not known to him or me.

We still found him hilarious,
A genius at his craft.
I’d be suspicious of a soul
Who watched and never laughed.

The film that followed had the other
Brothers, which just means
More chances to crack up
In many other crazy scenes.

Though people go to Florida
To loll around a beach,
I’m glad, when weather’s Venus-like,
These films are in our reach.

Premium Member Egg Salad

Insides become hard-boiled.
Yolks and whites; fork them up.
Love in Miracle Whip.
Between slices - pickup.
We won’t step on eggshells;
Consensual crack up.

Premium Member Judy's Day

It is your day today, it’s time
To raise a glass for you!
Cheers, love! Crack up a smile
That lovely smile I knew!
You’re in the higher world today
I hope you’re doing fine
It cannot be the other way
Your world is more sublime
I hope one day you’ll send a note
That tells how are you there
If you could read the words I wrote
You’d feel the love I share
You’ve gone too soon, my darling love
But you are in my heart
As always…see me from above
I’m doing well my part..

I Messed Up

Sometimes I get muddled
A little confused and mixed up
I come out with funny things
and make everyone crack up

My workmate spent thousands on IVF
I was explaining this one day
but my brain seemed to go absent
and I messed it up my own way

I told my friends about her
My brain was running free
I meant to say IVF
but said HIV!

A slight difference I know
but a couple of letters the same
I know I messed it up
but I made everyone laugh again.

Campfire Sonnet

A crackle-pop goes up into the night,
the embers shift amidst the orange blaze,
circling moths then back away in fright,
this bizarre sun no longer lights their way.

In lawn chairs we all circle leaping flames,
apple pie moonshine is going around,
Bob made the stuff, no two batches the same,
but still tastes warm as it burns its way down.

My wife sits on my lap with content grin,
the heat puts frisky thoughts into her mind,
want to see firelight on naked skin,
but folks are here, so I guess not this time.

More sparks crack up, amidst the stars they dance,
all thoughts trail off in the fire’s warm trance...

Free Style

This is just a freestyle poem
I really don't have much time
I love to sit and wonder
I crack up every time I rhyme

all you have to do in life
if you want to get ahead
is beat your sister up the stairs
on the way to bed

when you start to take life too seriously
it's not fun to play anymore
everything's so serious
everyone is a bore.

I say we should all freestyle
maybe just for today
we don't know what you're thinking
so what do you have to say?

Tick Tock

All tick no tock just like a broken clock
Instead I’m a broken doll

If the inside was out then you could see
What it feels like…feels like to be

Just like a broken doll

Neck and arms ben at an awkward angle
Heart hanging from a thin thread so that it dangles

Just like a broken doll

A long crack up my back held together with tape
A mind so twisted and filled with hate

More than a broken doll

No crazy glue to fix it, what can make it better
I try not to cry as the tape just gets wetter

What can fix a broken doll?

Premium Member Paradise's Cost

Long commutes, traffic jams
Accelerate, then on the brakes slam
The drive to work takes its toll
Nagging questions nibble at the soul

Then it's stride into work with a confident air
Lowered heads signal you'd better beware
The mood all-too-often stressed-out despair
By noon you're ready to tear out your hair

After lunch's not much better, then back into the car
Never have eighteen lousy miles seemed so far
Your mind still at work or on the endless back-up
At home trouble's brewing. Are you ready to crack up

You burst through the door, just happy to be there
Wondering why no greetings, just angry glares
Domestic turbulence permeates the room
You just can't cope with all this gloom and doom...

Ah, life in the suburbs, the great American Dream!
Merrily, merrily, spirits exhausted, swimming upstream

Premium Member Without Trousers

Standups can crack up audiences for hours
Especially when entering the stage without trousers
It wasn't intentional
Nor is it conventional
But surely the crowd won't throw cauliflowers

Losing It

They are cracking up in China
They are cracking up in Israel
They are cracking up in Africa
Not pleasant to crack up
I had a female lover who cracked up
Miss her
But I want to stay alive
So I let it slide
I will continue to read
Good loving is what I need

Laughter On a 125

Cackle, Chortle, Chuckle with glee,
Crack-up with crowing, and giggle "tee hee",
Hilarity, merriment, rejoice with a roar,
Shrieking, sniggering, Cheering, Guffaw

"Hi-di-Hi", har-de-har,
Snorting a lot,
Don't follow Frankie Howard,
Don't "titter ye not"

Absurd and amusing,
Comic and droll
Sarcasm and Irony
Like an internet troll

Facetious and farcical,
Fantastic and Funny
Mirthful and Mocking
Are all on the money

So remember these synonyms,
When you need to be dafter
Cos the world's so much nicer
When you fill it with...

... laughter.

Sketch of a Wretched Woman

SKETCH OF A WRETCHED WOMAN

She sat there demurely, her eyes closed shut,
With a formidable weight on her mind,
About to crack up like a brittle nut,
She was in a rather tenuous bind -
Her life's interlude from all love resigned;

An immutable fact caused deep heartache,
She had a unique psyche, no man would take,
Alone in her sea of tears, she was left...
Though her brilliant sketch, an artist could make,
None could portray how she felt - all bereft.

Cracking Up

Anyone can crack up
Writers, santation workers , cops,
right - wingers, left wingers
It is not a nice thing to happen
But not the end of the world if you do
Many people don't believe in poetry
But we at poetrysoup.com know better, don't we!!
Poetry is the key to emotional help!
At least for people who believe in something
It is best to believe in something

Worth of Living

Worth of Living

Before my birth i did not know
I was to come on this earth
Later i am told i have been sent here
So I understand
I have no right to go of my own
Till date I did not take steps
Or buy ticket to go to the land of no return
But i am forced to talk to myself
 What is worth living?
My mind explodes and I crack up the cane of ideas
They just all crawl and
I pick them up one after another
And throw them away in fear
You know why?
They are reaching nowhere
The shore is not getting the waves
The earthen pot vanishes into soil leaving behind nothing
A faded flower has not able to keep its blooming
Same is the case with bubble also
Uselessness is the king
In the kingdom of futile
The tree we water and nourish is fruitless
At last I get it and tell myself
Learning to use the bootlessness most is worth living.

Premium Member Who's In My Cracker Box

Who's in my cracker box?
I found a saltine in here...
And it's ready, for a bowl of hot soup..
Would you like to jump in, and join me?
I'm ready to crack up, and laugh real hard.
Too much salt floating around in here..
Gotta go..

Who's in my cracker box?
